Unless one is born of water and the Spirit,
He cannot enter the kingdom of God

578 Thy Strong Word

                                   1
5 Give us lips to sing Thy glory,
                 Tongues Thy mercy to proclaim,
Throats that shout the hope that fills us,
Mouths to speak Thy holy name.
              Alleluia, alleluia!
May the light which Thou dost send
              Fill our songs with alleluias,
                 Alleluias without end!
    D6 God the Father, light-creator,
To Thee laud and honor be.
To Thee, Light of Light begotten,
                 Praise be sung eternally.
              Holy Spirit, light-revealer,
                 Glory, glory be to Thee.
              Mortals, angels, now and ever
                 Praise the holy Trinity!

The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.

Invocation
P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.
       C Amen.
P Our help is in the name of the Lord,
C who made heaven and earth.
P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?
C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared.
P Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, call upon Him in prayer
and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in
the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and
confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought,
word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful
condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite

                                                      2
mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of
Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead
             us to everlasting life. Amen.
P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for
His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant
of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in
the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.
        C Amen.

Gloria in Excelsis LSB 204

Salutation and Collect of the Day
P The Lord be with you.
       C And also with you.
       P Let us pray.
Almighty and everlasting God, You have given us grace to
acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity by the confession of a
true faith and to worship the Unity in the power of the Divine
Majesty. Keep us steadfast in this faith and defend us from all
adversities; for You, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, live and reign,
               one God, now and forever.
       C Amen.

Old Testament Reading Isaiah 6:1–8
           1
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne,
high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2Above him
stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and
with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3And one called to
       another and said:
            “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”

                                          4
4
And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who
called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5And I said: “Woe is me! For I
am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people
of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”
           6
Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal
that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7And he touched my mouth and
said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and
        your sin atoned for.”
           8
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who
will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
A This is the Word of the Lord.
        C Thanks be to God.

Gradual Psalm 145:3, 5b, 6b
All: Great is the LORD, and greatly | to be praised,*
and his greatness is un- | searchable.
On your wondrous works, I will | meditate,*
and I will declare your | greatness.

Second Reading Acts 2:14a, 22–36
            14
Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them,
        ...
            22
“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to
you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did
through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23this Jesus,
delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you
crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24God raised him up,
loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held
by it. 25For David says concerning him,
“‘I saw the Lord always before me,
                 for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;
              26
                therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
my flesh also will dwell in hope.
              27
For you will not abandon my soul to Hades,
or let your Holy One see corruption.
              28
                You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
           29
“Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David
that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
        30
Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath
to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31he foresaw
and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned
to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32This Jesus God raised up, and
of that we all are witnesses. 33Being therefore exalted at the right hand of
                                            5
God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit,
he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34For
David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,
“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
             Sit at my right hand,
                35
until I make your enemies your footstool.’
       36
Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made
him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
A This is the Word of the Lord.
       C Thanks be to God.

Alleluia and Verse

Holy Gospel John 3:1–17
P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the third chapter.
C Glory to You, O Lord.
          1
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the
Jews. 2This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know
that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that
you do unless God is with him.” 3Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say
to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
       4
Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he
enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5Jesus
answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the
Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the
flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Do not marvel
that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8The wind blows where it
                                        6
wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from
or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
             9
Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” 10Jesus answered
him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these
things? 11Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear
witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. 12If I
have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if
I tell you heavenly things? 13No one has ascended into heaven except he
who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. 14And as Moses lifted up the
serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that
whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
             16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever
believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not
send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the
world might be saved through him.”
P This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C Praise to You, O Christ.

Athanasian Creed (As found in the hymnal)
Pastor: Whoever desires to be saved must, above all, hold the catholic
                  faith.
People: Whoever does not keep it whole and undefiled, will without
                  doubt perish eternally.
Pastor: And the catholic faith is this,
People: that we worship one God in trinity and Trinity in unity,
neither confusing the persons nor dividing the substance.
Pastor: For the Father is one person, the Son is another, and the Holy
                  Spirit is another.
People: But the Godhead of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit is one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal.
Pastor: Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit:
People: the Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, and the Holy Spirit
                  uncreated;
Pastor:           The Father infinite, the Son infinite, and the Holy Spirit infinite;
People: the Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Spirit
                  eternal.
Pastor: And yet there are not three Eternals but one Eternal,
People: just as there are not three Uncreated nor three infinites but
                  one Uncreated and one infinite.

                                          7
Pastor: In the same way, the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the
          Holy Spirit almighty;
People: and yet they are not three Almighties but one Almighty.
Pastor:   So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God;
People: and yet there are not three Gods but one God.
Pastor:   So the Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, and the Holy Spirit is Lord;
People: and yet there are not three Lords but one Lord.
Pastor: Just as we are compelled by the Christian truth to acknowledge
each distinct person as God and Lord,
People: so also we are prohibited by the catholic religion to say that
there are three Gods or Lords.
Pastor: The Father is not made, nor created, nor begotten by anyone. The
Son is neither made nor created, but begotten of the Father alone.
People: The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son, neither made
nor created not begotten but proceeding.
Pastor: Thus, there is one Father, not three Fathers, one Son, not three
Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits.
People: And in this Trinity none is before or after another; none is
          greater or less than another;
Pastor: but the whole three persons are coeternal with each other so that
in all things as has been stated above, the Trinity in Unity and
Unity in Trinity is to be worshiped.
People: Therefore, whoever desires to be saved must think thus about
          the Trinity.
Pastor: But it is also necessary for everlasting salvation that one faithfully
believe the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
People: Therefore, it is the right faith that we believe and confess that
our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is at the same time
          both God and man.
Pastor: He is God, begotten from the substance of the Father before all
ages; and He is man, born of the substance of His mother in this
          age:
People: perfect God and perfect man, composed of a rational soul and
          human flesh;
Pastor: equal to the Father with respect to His divinity, less than the
Father with respect to His humanity.
People: Although He is God and man, He is not two but one Christ:
Pastor: one, however, not by conversion of the divinity into flesh, but by
          the assumption of the humanity into God;
                                  8
People: one altogether, not by confusion of substance but by unity of
                       person.
Pastor: For as the rational soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is
                       one Christ,
People: who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again
the third day from the dead,
Pastor: ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father,
God Almighty, from whence He will come to judge the living and
                       the dead.
People: At His coming all people will rise again with their bodies and
give an account concerning their own deeds.
Pastor: And those who have done good will enter into eternal life, and
those who have done evil into eternal fire.
People: This is the catholic faith; whoever does not believe it faithfully
                       and firmly, cannot be saved.

Preface LSB 208
P The Lord be with you.
       C And also with you.
       P Lift up your hearts.
C We lift them to the Lord.
P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in
all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and
everlasting God, for the countless blessings You so freely bestow on
us and all creation. Above all, we give thanks for Your boundless
love shown to us when You sent Your only-begotten Son, Jesus
Christ, into our flesh and laid on Him our sin, giving Him into death
that we might not die eternally. Because He is now risen from the

dead and lives and reigns to all eternity, all who believe in Him will
overcome sin and death and will rise again to new life. Therefore with
angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud
and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Prayer of Thanksgiving
P Blessed are You, O Lord our God, king of all creation, for You have
had mercy on us and given Your only-begotten Son that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
You once revealed Your name to Moses in the burning bush; and
through Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, You unveiled the mystery of
Your holy name in the Trinity of persons and the Unity of being.
Grant that we, who have been baptized and instructed in the triune
name, may faithfully eat and drink of Your Son’s body and blood and
worship You in spirit and truth, O Father, through Your Son in the
          Holy Spirit.
Hear us as we pray in His name and as He has taught us:

      Lord’s Prayer
C Our Father who art in heaven,
            hallowed be Thy name,
            Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth
               as it is in heaven;
            give us this day our daily bread;
                                    11
and forgive us our trespasses
               as we forgive those
               who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
            but deliver us from evil.
          For Thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory
            forever and ever. Amen.

The Words of Our Lord
P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took
bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the
disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for
you. This do in remembrance of Me.”
In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had
given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this
cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the
forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance
          of Me.”

Pax Domini
P The peace of the Lord be with you always.

The pastor and those who assist him receive the body and blood of Christ first and
then distribute them to those who come to receive, saying:
Take, eat; this is the true body of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, given
         into death for your sins.
         Amen.
Take, drink; this is the true blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, shed
for the forgiveness of your sins.
         Amen.

571 God Loved the World So That He Gave

5 If you are sick, if death is near,
This truth your troubled heart can cheer:
                Christ Jesus saves your soul from death;
That is the firmest ground of faith.
D6 Glory to God the Father, Son,
And Holy Spirit, Three in One!
                To You, O blessèd Trinity,
                Be praise now and eternally!

May 30, 2021 – “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit.” The words of Invocation situate the service under the triune name of our
God. Those very words were also spoken over us as we were united to Jesus’ death
and resurrection through the waters of Baptism. Our very entry into the kingdom
of God, our very life under His reign, is freely given in the new birth of water and
the Spirit in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Daily Devotions from the Pastors of the Black Hills Circuit –
Friends, I am excited to tell you about a new project from the Black Hills Circuit
LCMS churches. We know, now more than ever what isolation does. We also know
what isolation from God’s Word does. Starting Monday November 2, the Black Hills
Circuit will be offering daily video devotions on our Facebook page, Fellowship for
the Future. Each week one of the Black Hills Circuit Churches will guide us into the
hope and promise we have in God’s Word.
The devotions will be about 15 minutes and will include a Psalm and Old
Testament or a New Testament reading, a section from the Catechism, the Creed
and the Lord’s Prayer. We will follow the readings from the Daily Lectionary in the
LSB hymnal, page 299.Starting November 2, the first post on the Fellowship for the
Future page will have a link that will direct you to that day’s devotion. Please join
us and tell your family and friends to join as we are strengthened, forgiven and
given hope in Jesus.
Tithes and Offerings - Did you know that we now have an option for online
giving? Go to our church's website, peacelutheranrc.org, and click on the "Give"
tab. Under that tab you will see a "Give Online" button.
And, if you shop at amazon.com, consider shopping at smile.amazon.com instead.
It is the same Amazon website with the same products for the same prices, but by
adding the "smile", Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible
AmazonSmile purchases to the charitable organization of your choice. When
choosing what to support enter in "Peace Lutheran Church Rapid City".

Library Recommendations for June
A collection of devotions and related activities for families, this
book encourages parents and children to grow in faith together.
Building on excursions in the neighborhood and community, games,
projects and a variety of other active learning experiences, these
devotions combine with Scripture verses, prayers, and discussion
starters for a balanced approach to family devotional life. In
addition, meditations for parents accompany the devotions to help equip them in
their roles as faith mentors for their children.
Janet Martin and Al Todnem wrote this book in 1992 and it's still going
strong. Not only is it filled with the oldie but goodie recipes (including
egg coffee and Watkin's nectar) from years ago, but it is loaded with
humorous insights into proper Lutheran church basement etiquette.

These commentaries offer: Easy-to-read commentary that follows the
text (in New International Version (NIV)) so you learn as you read,
Scripture and commentary on the same page, Bible text highlighted in
bold, Explanation of complicated passages, Important facts are
identified to expand understanding of Bible times and help apply
passages to life today, and Maps and charts.

             This book tells the parable of the Good Samaritan (Matthew 22:34–40;
Mark 12:28–31; Luke 10:25–37) in order to teach children to love their
             neighbors as themselves.
