Father's Faith Notes As some of you heard at Mass, this past Sunday was my birthday. Leading up to the day, Fr. Noé asked me what I wanted and, only halfway joking, I replied, “To never have to deal with masks and social distancing again!” Sadly, he didn’t deliver. While, thankfully, much is opening up, many re- strictions remain, and I think collectively it is getting harder to stay patient and observe them. Since many of you ask me about our policies and why we keep them, I want to share with you the reasons. On the day of my ordination as a deacon, I knelt before the Bishop, placed my hands in his and answered, “I do” to the following question, “Do you promise respect and obedience to me and my successors?” I repeated that promise when I was ordained a priest, again when I was installed as pastor of my previous parish, and most recently when Bishop Zarama installed me as pastor of St. Michael’s. That respect and obedience takes many forms but, among them, is following the Bishop’s guidance when he legitimately instructs us to do or not do something. With regards to masks and social distancing, the Bishop has publicly issued his guidance, not only privately to priests, but also publicly on the Diocese of Raleigh website. It was most recently updated on February 26th and states in part, “While parishes may choose to proceed with … Masses, the Executive Order and additional guidance from the diocese notes that recommendations to promote social distancing and reduce transmis- sion, face coverings, and avoid exceeding emergency maximum occupancy should be adhered.” These terms are defined in the relevant executive orders and currently include the requirement to wear face coverings and that we only permit as many people in the church as can be seated with 6’ between groups. Obedience to that guidance from the Bishop is the simplest answer to why we do what we do at St. Michael’s. God willing, things may change soon and, as soon as the guidance changes or there is an update to any of the restrictions, we stand ready to adapt accordingly. In the meantime, we continue to find creative ways to continue our ministries, to offer various opportunities to receive the sacraments, and to continue worshiping God and serving you in these trying times. I ask in return for your continued patience and charity in observing these requirements. Have a blessed week, Fr. Michael PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL For those who are ill or in need of our prayers, we pray… Week One: The Alexander Family, Tania Almeida, Barry Brown, Theresa Caamano, Chuck Elms, Rodrigo Eguiguren, Ricardo Eguizabel, Joseph Felicello, Jerry Franks, Sally Gildea, Dara Hadley, Jake Kennedy, Rita & Frank Losito Sr., Carrie Nelson, Elana O’Connell, Bill Odell, Betty Pate, Marilyn Pelligrini, Kevin Peterson, Irene Quistorff, Rosanne & Bob Schenck, Angela Traglia, Betsy Warren, Teresa Watkins Week Two: Joseph Felicello, Austin Foreman, Julie Miles Gernatt, Caren Lowe, Georgia Mancuso, Ruby Millea, Norma Miller, Nina Miracola, John Mosser, Donna Lee Pennella, Joan Robinson, Mary Schroeher, Annette Ste- phens, Benjamin Leo Summers, Sandra Wagner, Brenda Witchger, Ken Wondra Week Three: Sophia Alexander, Albert Brienzi, The Cortina Family, Pat Eide, Angela Frasca, Richard Friedman, Antonio Hernandez, Linda Janas, Rebecca Johnson, Deacon Terry Mancuso, The Redoblado Family, Peggy Scollon, Annette Stevens, Jean Stewart, Ken Tanner, Carlo Zollo Week Four: Pauline Alexander, Loretta Bierer, Lucy Brooks, Maria Cho, Jean Costa, Joe Day, Marge Hellkamp, Eric Lund, Kristin Mayleben-Flott, Melissa Makowski, Dawn McGibbon, Donna Odell, Kelly Parnell, Kay Reusch, Kim Stittsworth, Melinda Strunk, Kellie Sliwa Thalhamer, Virginia Wright, Tyler Youngberg, Teo Zanchelli Week Five: Robert Aitkin, Kim Blair, Alicia Conway, Michael Craven, Christian Craven, Tom Curran, Stephen Diehl, Alicia Elias, Diego Eguizabal, Pearl and Pop Glasser, Arnie Hackett, Rosemarie Mancino, Isabel Mattingly, Norma Muhlbauer, Jeff Schuller, Shirley Skalicky, Mike Ward, Susan Williams, Dave Wulff Week Six: James Gallagher, David Harcharic, Mary Kenney, Mark Lewandowski, Jim Lyons, Joey Miller, Dan Nagle, Mary Nagle, Parish Staff in Need, Dolores Rewkowski, Christine Scuderi, The Sliwa Family, Sandra Viera For those who have died, we pray... Parish Announcements and Events ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP The St. Michael the Archangel Parish Environmental Stew- ardship Ministry is looking for volunteers to help with its recycling program. Our ministry is inspired by Catholic Social Teaching and in support of Pope Francis's call for taking care of our environment in his papal encyclical Laudato Si. Every month our volunteers meet at the Parish to collect Parish recycling material and transport it to the Recycling Center in downtown Cary. This takes about an hour. In addition to serving the Pope's Catholic environ- mental mission, our efforts save the Parish a substantial amount of money since no commercial company is re- quired to perform this important work. As our ministry becomes part of the fabric of our Parish community, we look forward to welcoming all those wishing to participate in our recycling program. To volunteer (or if you have questions), please contact Bill Cooley at 919-630-3915 or Williamhcooley84@yahoo.com. P.
