NEWSLETTER SUMMER 2014
Indoor Cricket
World Cup 2014
PE Technician Miss Toal has recently
been selected to represent England
Women in the forthcoming Indoor
Cricket World in October 2014 hosted
in Wellington, New Zealand.
Indoor Cricket is a much smaller and
shorter version of the game that
is played outdoors. Apart from the
obvious difference that Indoor Cricket
is played indoors, it is played inside a
tension netted ‘cage’ in which the ball springs off the net sharply and can be caught. Each team is made up of 8 players
and everyone bowls two overs (including the wicket keeper) and bats in pairs for four overs (16 overs per innings). When
a wicket has been taken, the batter is not out but the team loses 5 runs and will continue until the four allocated overs
have been bowled. Each batting pair makes a partnership score. If that partnership score is more than the opposition
partnership score then that team has won a ‘skin’ and awarded a bonus point. Three points for the win and one point
for each ‘skin’ won.
Miss Toal has been a regular player in the Indoor Cricket World Cup making her first appearance in 2007 for England
U19s Girls hosted in Bristol. She has also represented England Women in two previous World Cups (2009 & 2011) in
which she has travelled to Australia and South Africa to compete.
As this is a minor sport, there is no funding in place from the governing body and this World Cup is completely self-
funded. This trip will cost somewhere within the region £3,000+ which includes flights, accommodation, tournament
fees, physio, other travel expenses, kit, etc.
Crown Hills are very proud of this achievement and are more than
willing to help Miss Toal to raise funds for the trip. There are plans
for a non-uniform day which will be cricket themed and there will
be fun cricket activities planned throughout the day, where prizes
can be won such as signed bats. Hopefully there will be a ‘Staff vs
Students’ (boys and girls) cricket match arranged, possibly taking
place after school.BHF – Vale of Belvoir Ride 2014 From the Principal Contents:
