President’s Message
Welcome Back! I hope this finds you and your families well. It continues to be difficult times but
there is hope as the COVID situation has improved.
Your Board of Directors have continued to work on plans throughout the summer and have prepared
a return to curl program which we hope you will embrace. After reviewing information from many
sources, it has been decided that only those with double vaccination plus 14 days will be allowed to
enter the facility. Those with medical or religious reasons for not vaccinating will be subject to
providing proof of a negative Covid test at their expense within the prior 48 hours every time they
enter the facility. It was a difficult decision to require these restrictions, but the Board felt it was in the
best interests of all Members of the Club.
The actual conditions of opening regarding COVID safety within the facility are still a work in progress
as the parameters keep moving but we are monitoring the situation and will follow the conditions as
required by our Local Health Unit. We are also taking into consideration information being presented
by Curl Canada and Curl ON. The Board will keep the Members informed once final conditions are
decided.
We strongly encourage Members to sign up and pay on our Website. During opening week proof of
vaccination will be shown to Membership only. Rest assured your information will be private and
confidential, no copy will be kept. This must be provided prior to playing your first game.
The 2020 -2021 season was difficult financially on the Club. We were able to enjoy our great game
for the fall term but with the early closing we suffered a substantial loss. We applied for and received
Government assistance to help mitigate the loss but due to our fixed costs we were going to suffer a
financial loss whether we opened or not.
As a result, you will see we have increased fees for the first time in 2 years by approximately $1 per
week per member. In order to balance our budget we will also require fundraising activities this year
and we are looking for suggestions. If any Member has ideas please approach any Board Member.
Sadly, we are saying goodbye to retiring Board Members Jeff Minler, Garret Fisher and Shirley
Vanderkooy. I want to thank them on behalf of all Members and especially the Board Members for
their efforts on your behalf.
Now for some good news. We do welcome Conrad Lower to the Board as Ice Director, Dennis O’Neil
as the House Director and Karen Canning who is taking over Membership. We will value the
experience of these new Board Members. The Board is currently looking to fill the Social Director
position. If any Member wishes to discuss the position please contact any Board Member. Now for more good news! All our key staff are back for this year. Lisa, Brigette and Chris are returning to prepare our drinks, Colleen Barker will continue to keep the facility shining and Kevin Breivik is looking forward to a full year to prepare our playing conditions to be among the best in the area. As always if any Member has constructive input please contact any Board Member. Our names and positions are posted on our Website. I strongly encourage all Members to take advantage of all the information available on the Website and to register there for this season. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in October and am honoured to be your President for the coming year. Stay safe Terry Bushell President IDCC
