to change. These students need to show up to
class; they need to put the time and effort into

ushering in 2020 last January, no one would
have ever thought our world would have been
changed so quickly.
I keep hearing that we still have some time to go
before seeing a change in the restrictions we
have been placed under by the state, so for now,
we will maintain our procedures until these
restrictions are lifted.
I would like to now talk about academics. In this
new environment, most students are doing well,
but there are a few that I am concerned
about. After reviewing the first quarter and the
15-week grades, I see there is a group
struggling. I have looked over the reasons, and
they vary, but a few stand out immediately. The
first and most apparent reason is attendance. If
the student is not showing up to class, then they
are most likely not passing. I see this problem
far more with students who have chosen remote
learning than in-person. When we first started
remote education, we had several issues getting
things up and running, but most kinks were
worked out months ago. Some students are
making choices not to show up. They may think
showing up to class is a choice, and I guess it is
to some degree. Unfortunately, they have to live
with the consequences, which are the grades I
see on report cards.
Along with not showing up to class comes the
second issue. These same students do not turn
in their work and fail tests because they do not

The best snow day I ever had was when

house to go sledding. I made a wrong turn and
went into a bush. Then I brought my sled to the

Our Third Grade Students were asked,
to describe the best snow day. The best snow day I ever had was when I
sat by my fire and watched TV. It was so warm
that I didn't need a blanket. Then I went to my
room and sat on the top bunk. I decided that I
needed to clean my room a little bit. After that, I
went sledding. It was so much fun. I was cold, so
I asked my mom if she could make hot
chocolate. She made the best hot chocolate ever.
Then I sat on the couch and drank my hot
chocolate. I went to look out the window in my
room and then I was CAVED IN. That means

Over 1,200,000 Families Did This!

Over 1,200,000 families have signed up to receive free children’s books for their children. This includes
nearly 100 families in the Town of Johnsburg who have also enrolled their kids in the Imagination
Library program. And it’s free and easy! Dolly Parton started an international program, Imagination
Library, for any child from birth until their 5th birthday to have a quality children’s book mailed
directly to their home each month. She understands the value of books in the life of a child. There is
no cost to you because our local chapter receives generous grant funding from the Glenn and Carol
Pearsall Foundation as well as the Charles R. Wood Foundation. Interested? Just sign up… registration
forms are available at JCS, the town library, or attached to the monthly JCS Newsletter. Thanks, Ann
