Job Description
The Jimmie Jack Fishing Co. hires only the best professionals in the business. We pay a premium
salary for experienced, seasoned guides. A person who can present themselves in a professional
manner, prove to us they can be helpful and communicate with our guests by passing on their
fishing skills. Our guides must have a U.S. Coast Guard 6-pak license or Remote Waters of Western
Alaska license, and be willing to pass the one week Kenai River Guide Academy. Our guides
accompany 4 guests each day. Guides must be an expert in fishing, and boat handling on rivers.
Most importantly, our guides must be coachable. This is a 7 day a week job with a duty time of 10 to
12 hours a day. We do offer a day off once each 10 days. Our experienced river guides must have
river boat experience. We use 20’ Willie Boats with 50hp Yamaha outboards. We also operate 20’
Willie Drift boats.
The guide will be taking guests on fishing trips. The guide will be responsible for the safe navigation
of rivers (power and rowing), teaching of fishing techniques, and will be responsible for routine
boat maintenance and cleaning. The guide trainee will also be given odd jobs on days that are not
spent guiding: bait preparation, lodge and camp maintenance and cleaning, and other assigned
tasks. Most importantly, the guide will insure that each client has an enjoyable day on the water.
Guides are team players and are always available to help with any project.

RIVER GUIDE REQUIREMENTS
US Coast Guard Six-Pac license or Remote Waters of Western Alaska license
Kenai River Guide Academy Certificate
Current CPR and First Aid cards
Valid Driver’s License
TWIC Card

RIVER GUIDE PARTIAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Knowledge and experience with river boats, and know how to read water
Knowledge of rowing drift boats
Knowledge and experience of fishing by the drift method and backtroll method in power and drift boats
Knowledge of all types of spinning and casting fishing gear
Knowledge of all types of fly rods, flies and related equipment
Knowledge in releasing fish unharmed
Knowledge and demonstrate to guests how to fish
Knowledge in telling guests the history of all Pacific Salmon, and the life cycle of each
Know how to tie basic knots used in both spin and fly fishing, such as cinch, blood, nail, surgeon
Knowledge in teaching guests how to cast
Be able to work unsupervised in a remote river camp
Be able to keep a boat clean and organized
Be able to get along and be friendly, to offer your help to other lodge's guests and guides

Dates of Employment
This is salaried job for 4 months. You are paid once per month. We
will deduct income tax, social security and Alaska State Unemployment tax from your
monthly
check. You are covered by Worker's Compensation Insurance.

Salary
Starting salary averages $2,250.00 per month, room and board, and gratuities

Saving Money
Working at the lodge is not only an adventure, but an opportunity to save money. Unlike
other
jobs, we furnish room and meals. You have no expenses. Your entire income can be saved.
Our lodge staff enjoys generous tips.
If we consider you as a member of our staff we will inform you what you can expect in
gratuities per week.

Transportation
Your point of hire is Kenai, Alaska. The job starts and ends in Kenai, Alaska. We do not pay
airfare from the lower
48 to Kenai. Since airfares are extremely expensive we do have a plan for
assisting you in your ticket purchase. This is a privilege and should not be considered the
rule.
We extend this favor in return for outstanding employees.

Housing
We furnish room and board. Employees stay in our bunkhouse, which has
a bathroom. Housing will be assigned once the crew is hired.

Food
You will be provided breakfast and a sack lunch. Food for dinners is provided, but not made
for you.
You may use the camp kitchen. Personal food and other necessities can be bought in town.

Opportunity
You have the opportunity to go fishing, sightseeing, hiking or boating. You can go fishing at
any time you are off duty and we can get you on a boat. We encourage you to ask to go
fishing. Employee use of lodge equipment is allowed in return for superior work habits &
ethics.
You're encouraged to bring your own hobby items for off time enjoyment.

Daily Schedule
The Chef will have an early day, starting at 3:30am to 5:00am, and ending at 10:00am.
Shopping will be done in the afternoon after a long break or nap. We are proactive and work
until the work is done. You may rest in the afternoon after work is accomplished.
Dress Code
Clean, neat and well groomed is the standard. A professional appearance reflects the
image we are looking for. We supply uniforms that are required wear. You will be required
to bring specific items. The dress code for breakfast and dinner service is Jimmie Jack’s
Lodge logo shirts and T-shirts with either khaki or navy blue trousers or skirt. Your day wear
when not
serving guests can be any casual wear. Upon your confirmed employment we will inform
you
exactly what you need to bring and what we furnish.

Requirements
Our facilities and equipment are above average and we require employees to
keep them that way. We expect superior performance from our employees, in personal
hygiene,
professional contact with our customers and relations with other employees. The most
important
factors that we look for when hiring a person is a good attitude, honorable, and high work
ethic. If you aren't
willing to put in long hours, this is not the place for you. The hospitality maid/server position
requires employees who are honest, presentable, personable and friendly. We require
people who can
present themselves in an outgoing manner. We expect good manners, good grooming and
a
professional appearance, above reproach.
