The news that we received was inspiring and uplifting, and I am ever so thankful that you hung in there with us, and now you will reap the rewards. The 2021 Marshall County Fair is going to be GRAND! When I sit and type this newsletter, a smile comes across my face as I think about our fair. My mind is flooded with all the sounds, smells, tastes, sights, laughter, and memories created at the Marshall County Fair; these stick with you for a lifetime. We want to challenge all of you to fill our barns, fill our exhibit hall, showcase in new project areas, enter into food revue, performing arts, or display your learning through a demonstration. Let's celebrate 4-H at the Marshall County Fair by showcasing our learning, skills, and talent. Office Update: Alysa is back in the office five days a week starting June 1st!

4-H Stock Talks are back for 2021!
https://extension.umn.edu/4-h-events/4-h-stock-talks-2021#
A stock talk is a short video presentation about an animal science topic of choice
(beef, dairy, dog, goat, horse, lama, poultry, rabbit, sheep, or swine). Giving a
stock talk is an excellent opportunity for Youth to share their learning and
practice their demonstration skills!
Potential topics for the stock talks are endless! Youth are encouraged to "be
creative, be funny, be serious, just be you"! Please encourage them to think about
something they've learned in their livestock project or something they enjoy
doing and prepare to share it with their peers.
Topic examples:
• How to clip a rabbit’s toenails• Designing a llama costume
• How to shear a sheep
• Ingredients found in chicken feed
• Training your dog with agility obstacles
• Building playground equipment for a goat
• How to catch your heifer for the first time
• Checking your horse’s hooves for soundness
Submissions are due by June 30.
To help Youth create and film their 4-H Stock Talk submission, check out this
resource.
The submissions received by June 30 will be reviewed in July. The first 100
submissions will receive a 2021 4-H Stock Talk t-shirt sponsored by Ag Country for
participating. The top 10% of entries in each division will receive a special award
and a feature on Minnesota 4-H social media.

Marshall County Extension Summer Assistants
We are excited to announce that we have hired two summer assistants for the
2021 summer season.
Hey there! My name is Britton Fuglseth,
and I am from Fertile-Beltrami! I am
attending the University of Minnesota,
Crookston, and am majoring in Agricultural
Education, emphasizing Agricultural
Sciences and Natural Resources. Although I
did not grow up in 4-H, I was very active in
the National FFA Organization and served
in many leadership positions, including the
2019-2020 MN State FFA Reporter. I have
used my past few years to actively advocate
for agriculture by meeting and working
with people such as former Minnesota
Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap, current
American Farm Bureau President Zippy
Duval, former Secretary of Agriculture
Sonny Perdue, former Vice President Mike Pence, and have toured numerous
agricultural companies to build relationships with youth organizations such as FFAand 4-H. I now serve as a Minnesota Teach Ag Ambassador and cannot wait to continue informing people of agriculture in my future classroom. Working as a Marshall County 4-H summer assistant is right up my alley, and I look forward to the summer plans to come. Not to mention meeting and working with Marshall county 4-H'ers! I hope to see you around! When asked what she is most excited about for this upcoming summer, she said, "working with all of the Marshall County 4-H'ers with all the fun stuff we have planned for the summer!" Hi, my name is Carolyn Pavlish, and I will be working with Marshall County Extension through the busy summer months! This coming fall, I will be a senior at the University of Minnesota Crookston, majoring in Agriculture Education, emphasizing Natural and Managed Environmental Education. I am originally from Mahnomen, Minnesota. I had a traditional agriculture background growing up, as my parents farmed wheat, corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and beef cattle. When I was younger, I was involved in 4-H, where I entered fine arts projects and showed Holstein heifer yearlings at the county fair. As I got older, I became more heavily involved with my FFA chapter. My upbringing and experiences instilled in me a passion for both agriculture and education. I am ecstatic to be working with the Marshall County Extension this summer. I hope to gain valuable experiences that will accompany me in my future career aspirations. When asked what Carolyn is most excited about for this upcoming summer, she said, "excited about the Marshall County Fair and to facilitate 4-H program with youth”. We are very excited to have both Britton and Carolyn as a part of our program this summer! Their experience, skills, and knowledge will bring tremendous value to our program.

Here's what you need to know about Livestock Quality
Assurance in 2021
Extension for Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics (LQA&E)
certification
When a 4-H member certifies with the LQA&E program to be eligible to
participate in Minnesota 4-H state fair shows, they participate in and complete a
3-hour in-person training. This certification enables them to be eligible to
participate in state fair 4-H shows for three fair seasons.
In 2020, due to Covid, we could not hold in-person state-level 4-H livestock shows
for Youth to attend. Thus we will be extending the LQA&E certification of any
youth certified in 2018 and 2019, so they will be able to use their full three fair
season eligibility.
• Youth who certified in 2018 were eligible for 2018, 2019, and 2020 Minnesota 4-H state
fair shows. We will extend their eligibility through the 2021 fair season.
• Youth who certified in 2019 were eligible for 2019, 2020, and 2021 Minnesota 4-H state
fair shows. We will extend their eligibility through the 2022 fair season.• If an LQA&E training was offered in 2020 and Youth participated and completed it, we
will extend their certification through the 2023 fair season.
• Youth who certified in 2017 or earlier will be required to re-certify this year.
Extension for Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) certification
When a 4-H member certifies with the YQCA program to be eligible to participate
in Minnesota 4-H state fair shows, they participate in and complete a 1-hour
online training. This certification enables them to be eligible to participate in state
fair 4-H shows for one fair season.
In 2020, due to Covid, we were unable to hold in-person state-level 4-H livestock
shows for Youth to attend; thus, we will be extending by one year the YQCA
certification of any youth that had certified in 2020. Use the statement below to
determine which Youth need livestock quality assurance certification this year.
• Youth who certified in 2020 to be eligible for the 2020 Minnesota 4-H state fair
shows will have their certification extended through the 2021 fair season.

minimal movements, relaxed, allow hips to move with the horse. The rider's

prescribed pattern of the class are essential. You are moving your horse in a
straight line without the rail as a guide, stopping at the cone for transitions of
gates as indicated in the pattern.
