KENRICK-GLENNON SEMINARY
PROUDLY PRESENTS THE
29th ANNUAL
CONVIVIUM DINNER AUCTION
Celebrating Priestly FormationWELCOME
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 29th Annual Convivium Dinner Auction! It is good
to be together again and to reconnect in-person. We missed you!
Thank you for joining us for this celebration of priestly formation. I
am happy to see new and familiar friends in the room this evening!
I encourage you to get to know our seminarians tonight and learn
about the good work God is doing in their lives. They are eager to
get to know you, too.
Your support tonight and throughout the year helps to provide a
solid formation for these men as they discern the call to the
priesthood and prepare to serve you and your families as parish
priests. Thank you for your support.
Please be assured of my prayers and those of the seminary
community for you and your families.
In Christ,
Father James Mason
President-Rector
Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and to the glory of God the
Father, we seek each seminarian’s configuration to the Heart of Jesus

Kenrick-Glennon Seminary is a tax-exempt charitable organization
described in Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3). Guests are
encouraged to seek the advice of their tax advisors as to the
accuracy of the information provided and the tax consequences of
their financial participation in the Convivium Dinner Auction.
• The Auction Committee believes that $100 per ticket is a
reasonable estimate of the fair market value of the dinner,
drinks, and additional items provided.
• The Internal Revenue Service does not regard the purchase of
a raffle ticket(s) to constitute a charitable contribution. In
consequence, no portion of the purchase price qualifies as a
charitable contribution.
• When a guest purchases an auction item for a price greater
than the amount reflected as the fair market value listed on
the paid receipt, he or she may claim the difference between
the purchase price and the fair market value as a charitable
contribution.
• When a guest purchases an item for a price that is less than or
equal to the fair market value listed on the paid receipt, the
transaction is regarded as simply a purchase - not a charitable
contribution - and no portion of the purchase price qualifies as
a charitable contribution.
• All cash donations to Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, including
gifts through the Fund-a-Need, qualify as charitable
contributions as long as the donor receives no direct benefit in
return. The Seminary will make every effort to provide an
acknowledgement for cash and non-cash gifts.50/50 RAFFLE

Biblical Archaeology in the Holy Land
For nearly a decade, deacons in their last year of formation at
Kenrick-Glennon Seminary have traveled to the Holy Land. Last
year, the trip was canceled due to the pandemic. Thanks be to God,
plans to travel this year are underway!
This January, deacons - and many of the newly ordained alumni-
priests who were unable to go last year - will travel to the Holy Land
with Fr. Charles Samson, Associate Professor of Biblical Theology.
He will guide the men on a three-week study of archaeology and
theology where the Gospels themselves took place. Fr. Samson’s
capacity to integrate theology, pilgrimage, and archaeology will
deeply influence the way the men can, as priests, grow in the love of
their priesthood and minister as Christ to their parish families.
Your generosity in the 2020
Fund-A-Need laid the
groundwork for this year’s
expanded trip. Yet, additional
funds are needed to cover the
entire experience, considering the
additional expenses required to
bring both priests and deacons.
We hope that you will be generous in underwriting the Holy
Land experience for the Classes of 2021 and 2022.
Please raise your bid number for the level you wish to pledge during
the Fund-a-Need.
If you wish to make a private gift, you may do so on the mobile
bidding site or by visiting the Help Desk. Please also notify the
Help Desk if you intend to donate through your private foundation
or donor-advised fund.Your donation to the Fund-a-Need helps provide airfare, hotel
accommodations, meals, tickets to numerous archaeological sites,
and more.
Note: At this time, travel in Israel is re-opening after the pandemic
shutdown. If new restrictions are imposed, the feasibility of this trip will
be reevaluated. However, the seminary is committed to providing this
experience for our deacons and priests. The newly ordained priests will
participate if their parish and personal schedule allows. This opportunity
is significant for them, as they will be able to offer Mass in the sacred
places.
Thank you for your support of our seminarians!SILENT AUCTION

Only 100 tickets are available, so your chance of winning is high! ABOUT FR. KAPAUN Fr. Emil J. Kapaun attended Kenrick Seminary from 1936 - 1940. After serving as a parish priest in Pilsen, Kansas, Fr. Kapaun joined the U.S. Army as a military chaplain. In 1950, Fr. Kapaun was ordered to Korea where he was later captured and held in a prison camp. During seven months in captivity, Fr. Kapaun ministered to his fellow POWs. Fr. Kapaun died on May 23, 1951 at the prison camp. In 1993, Fr. Kapaun was named a “Servant of God,” the first step toward possible canonization. The Vatican is now examining possible miracles attributed to the intercession of Fr. Kapaun. He is also being considered for the designation of “martyr.” Fr. Speaking the Language of Life
By Cesar Gomez-Cerventes, Theology II – Kansas City in KS
Last October, I was asked by a classmate to serve as a translator for
a pregnant woman considering an abortion. My brother
seminarians were praying the holy rosary outside an abortion
facility, as they do each week. They were trying to have a
conversation with this woman and her partner as they were entering
the facility. However, the couple did not speak any English. Despite
the seminarians’ efforts, the woman entered the facility for an
abortion. The seminarians stayed outside, praying the rosary for her.
Suddenly, the couple left the facility. The seminarians asked, “What
happened to your appointment?” The woman shared that for some
reason, she was not registered in the system and had to reschedule
her appointment. After conversing with her, my brother
seminarians and others from the 40 Days for Life group.
One of the seminarians called me and asked if I was willing to be a
translator for this woman so that she could better communicate
with the pregnancy center staff. I accepted immediately. On the way
there, I called my sister, who is a counselor, and asked her for
suggestions on how to speak empathetically with the woman, and
thus, be able to also save the life of the baby. My sister simply told
me, “Stop thinking and start praying. The Holy Spirit will guide
you.” I thank God that He used my sister to dispose my heart for
this encounter…
