Dear Parents/Carers,

This Parent Information Pack provides you with information about our school in one, easily accessible
place. Our latest news is always on our website and I would urge you to visit it regularly.

Over the last academic year we:

      Embedded the teaching approach of Maths Mastery, so that we spend longer each term teaching
       key concepts before we move on to the next maths topic

      Focused our English teaching in Years 1 and 2 on writing, giving the children stimulating ideas for
       writing so as to write for different purposes and audiences. Our Book Week in March gave us the
       opportunity to follow a single theme throughout the school for the week.

      Refined the way we assess children’s learning in Year 1 and Year 2 in line with the end-of-year
       expectations for English and Maths. We benchmark our assessment judgements at moderation
       meetings with other schools. We have a new tracking system to monitor progress.

      Enhanced our teaching of Phonics, with a focus on Phase 5 throughout Year 1. Everyone Reading in
       Class (ERIC) has linked teaching reading and phonic skills to our writing, particularly in Year 1.

      Involved the School Council in hosting “Cake and Play” sessions for pre-schoolers, as well as running
       stalls at the Winter & Summer Fairs and asking for the children’s feedbacks about different aspects
       of school life.

      Worked closely with colleagues in other schools within Surrey Heath, to share good practice and
       keep up-to-date with new initiatives and approaches.

We have ambitious plans for this coming year which I shall share with you in more detail during the first
few weeks of the new term. We will continue to work alongside other schools. We have established a
Multi-Academy Trust with Crawley Ridge Infant School, Crawley Ridge Junior School, Holy Trinity Primary
School and Connaught Junior School; The Alliance Multi-Academy Trust (TAMAT).

booklet useful.

What that looks like for children

We want school to be a creative, interesting and fun place they want to go to everyday. We aim to give children a
happy introduction to education; a warm, secure, encouraging and nourishing environment which provides new
learning experiences. With a holistic, inclusive and fair approach we will support the children as they develop their
understanding of the world around them and where they fit, reflecting the society in which we live today, and that of
tomorrow. We aim to provide an all-round education which encourages the children to act independently, to be
positive, to be prepared to make mistakes and learn from them, finding their strengths as they grow.

What that looks like for parents and carers

We expect school to be a happy, safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all. Children will be well taught so
that they make excellent progress and are engaged in their learning, regardless of their individual starting points.
We will provide a broad curriculum which provides enrichment and challenge so that the pupils have a great start to
their school career and leave with happy memories, ready for the next stage. We will work with parents and carers
in collaboration. We are part of the Surrey Heath Learning Partnership and share training and good practice to
support the growth of our school communities. We work closely to optimise transition across educational phases
and maximise learning opportunities.

What that looks like for staff and governors

We aim for Windlesham Village Infant School to be an enjoyable, inspirational and motivational place for children,
their families, the wider community and those of us who work here! We offer a supportive, caring environment
which allows for growth. We work as a team, sharing good practice, celebrating success and supporting
development. We trust each other, we are honest with each other, respect each individual and share the same
mission of educating the whole child so that each pupil makes pleasing progress across the curriculum and in their
social, emotional, moral and cultural development.

Our last Ofsted Inspection was carried out in
October 2006 and the school was rated as an

Pupil voice
School councillors are elected at the start of each
new school year after those children who are
interested in becoming a councillor write a letter
explaining why they would like to be on the
council.

These are led by teachers and meetings take
place regularly. The councils give the children a
‘voice’ and anything can be discussed at the
meeting. If a child wants the council to talk
about something they should tell their class
councillor and council leader.

Getting ready to move on
Year 2 children will be leaving for their new
school at the end of the Summer term. We have
close links with both local junior schools –
Connaught and Hammond - and plan to make
the transition as easy as possible with visits from
the Year 3 teachers to our school and visits by
the children to their new school. This takes place
in the Summer term and details will be
announced nearer the time.

We work closely with all the schools in the
Surrey Heath Learning Partnership (SHLP) and
seek to support transition with any school that
one of our pupils are moving to.

Transition    folders,     containing    ongoing
assessment, are passed on to the junior schools
to give information of children’s attainment and
ensure continuity of progression.

Standard Assessment Tasks (SATS) take place in
the Summer term, during May. For parents of
Year 2 children, there is a SATs Information

Results of these tests will be shared with parents
at the end of the Summer term and an
