Social Media
Frustrations or comments are easily expressed via the world of social media. However, I know from experience that the best way to
deal with any concerns relating to your son/whāngai is by contacting his whānau teacher, subject teacher or House Dean. I am only a
telephone call or e-mail away should you wish to discuss any matters with me; direct dial 03 9214321 or john.kendal@mbc.school.nz

                                            New Staff Members
It is with great pleasure that we introduce two new teachers to
the Technology Faculty.
Keaton Hendy has joined us as our senior Furniture teacher. He
is also teaching junior Graphics and junior Digital Technology.
He is a 29 year old Canadian who has travelled extensively both
worldwide and within New Zealand shores.
Ben Eustace joined us in Week 3 of term two and will run the
Construction area of the Faculty. He is an experienced tradesman
whom, we are sure, will be able to pass on his substantial
knowledge to the boys.
Please feel free to contact either teacher on their respective

CAREERS AND TRANSITION

School leaver process
We have started our leaver process so Year 13 students can make
a seamless transition to either further training or the workplace.
The meeting to explain this was well attended by students and
parents and we would ask that those who could not attend to
catch up with the careers department as soon as possible. Please
hand in the forms for your teacher selection and selection of
option from the finished Record to Claire Matthews as soon as
possible.
Students considering tertiary study could spend time in the next
holidays gathering the information and documents they will need.
Students may also write their personal statement and email this to
claire.matthews@mbc.school.nz. If students want help with this
then they can approach Gail Fletcher or Jared Bell. The documents
they need to gather are certified copies of their birth certificate
or passport, a certified copy of both their IRD number and bank Sean Goodall-Cromarty and his father Darren talking to Paul Booth from

and many students are gaining valuable credits and skills through
this course as well the Driving Education Programme delivered
by Eddie van der Westhuzien. There is still some room for more
students but to be part of the programme students would have to
apply before the end of term and would need to be in a CDV class.

Careers
The annual Careers Evening was held on 21 June and was well
attended. It was pleasing to see many parents accompanying their
sons/daughters. Local businesses attending gave visitors a good
insight into how careers operate in their industry. Another pleasing
note was the number of ex-students who were with providers
giving another perspective on how careers operate for a young
person starting out. Many people made contact with providers,
and I would encourage you to follow up on these. If you were
unable to make a personal contact or want more information,
please contact the careers department.
Career events will be listed on the Daily Notices and parents are
welcome to attend these sessions. Students gain valuable career
advice and guidance from their parents so attending career events
would be a good opportunity to gain the latest information.
The Open Day for both Victoria University and Massey Wellington
is being advertised. Please remember that this event clashes with
our derived grade exams. If you want to visit these Universities,
they will be able to show you around. Please contact me so I can
arrange a tour.

a member of the 1st X1 Cricket Team. In Year 13 he increased
his academic profile and enrolled in several scholarship courses.
Fraser gained scholarships in painting and statistics in 2014.
As maths and physics were his things, McIntosh headed towards
engineering. He moved to Auckland in 2015, just after high school,
to start a four-year degree.
After a first general year, he specialised in mechatronics, a
combination of mechanical and electrical engineering, and then
software engineering.
“I loved university, it was awesome, I had so much fun. I worked
hard, but I also enjoyed the flexibility.” McIntosh joined Team New
Zealand after finishing University in Auckland in 2019.
Not a big fan of the 9-to-5 rut, McIntosh felt lucky to be part of
Emirates Team New Zealand for the ‘Auld Mug’. Out on one of the
two support boats, McIntosh helped defend the 36th America's
cup, working mainly on the sailors’ displace.
What was initially a three-month internship turned into a
permanent contract until the end of the America's Cup in March
this year.
A fan of football and Formula 1, McIntosh never thought
engineering could lead to sport, an interest he had developed at
a young age. Fraser continues to complement his engineering OPTIONS EXPO
