Meet the Speakers
                        John Young
                        Master of Ceremonies

For more than 31 years, John Young presented and reported the TV news on the BBC.
He’s now distilled the energy and stories of a career in a TV newsroom into a range of
fascinating keynotes and lively consultancy workshops, delivered online or in person. His
skills in handling the adrenaline of a live news studio have made him a popular choice in
this new age of virtual event hosting. John is a senior member of the Professional Speaking
Association. John joined the BBC from Cambridge University as one of 12 news trainees in
1989. This provided him with two years’ training in BBC editorial standards before choosing
his path as a news reporter and presenter in Southampton, Belfast, Truro, Newcastle,
Bristol, Brighton and on the BBC’s News Channel. In 2009, John was selected for a year’s
secondment as a trainer of incoming journalists at the BBC Academy. In 2013, he set up his
consultancy business, John Young Media, running it alongside his BBC work until he left the
corporation in October 2020. John uses income from his professional clients to subsidise
employability skills workshops for young people who are not in formal education or training.
John will take the role as Master of Ceremonies for the Engage Europe conference and the
Engage Europe Finance Awards.

“Do I need to worry about the “insider threat”?
Peter McBay is managing director of Bespoke Integrity Solutions Ltd and a fraud

organisation as well as explain some of the pitfalls of not being alive to this threat, and offers
some potential solutions.

Peter will discuss that whilst it is common to implicitly trust all your employees and colleagues, this approach may not
always be in your organisation’s best interest- looking at why internal fraud may occur and also specific red flags to be
on the lookout for should assist you.

He will share some approaches that should help you avoid some potentially catastrophic organisation events – either
financial or reputation.

Finally, a case study of a recent investigation he has worked on, will be shared to illustrate some key points.

Therefore, the key areas of focus will be:

1. What is the “insider threat” for an organisation?
2. What tactics could we use to try and tackle the insider threat?
3. Learn from how it went wrong in another organisation

James Perryman,
“High performing business or a high-performance culture?”

High performance results are not always an outcome of a high-performance
culture. Sometimes it’s the complete opposite.

James will share the six key questions to ask yourself about all aspects of
your business, whilst highlighting the importance of leadership, teamwork, individual behaviours
and an overriding sense of purpose and belonging.

You’ll also learn how to create an environment that promotes and embraces growth, innovation
and change, is highly effective at managing conflict and that centres around a coaching and
collaborative mindset.

  1. How to develop, maintain and lead a high-performing team
  2. How to create a compelling and engaging sense of purpose, aligned to your
                      strategy
