EMW 2013 in Italy
   Participating Institutions n. 84      The choice of criterion n. 3 increased from 49% al 57%

   Population involved 16,5 mln          The choice of all 3 criteria increased from 28% to 37%

        General activities (photographic exhibition, educational campaigns for students,
        walking activities, etc)

        Initiative to promote Local Public Transport
        Promotion, activation and implementation of bike sharing service
        Inauguration of cycle paths
        Bicycle repair services
The most common initiatives promoted by the municipalities

    LTZ and reserved areas for walking and cycling
  Several participating institutions closed to private traffic in urban areas, including
  through the expansion of LTZ, Zone 30 and pedestrian areas

     Conferences and comunications activities
  Many participating institutions organized conferences and initiatives to raise awareness
  and to involve the community on sustainable mobility, including through the promotion
  of car pooling, low emissions vehicles, electric vehicles

    Promotion of cycling
  Several participating institutions planned initiatives to promote cycling, which bycicle
  rides, promotion and implementation of bike sharing service, inauguration of cycle
  paths, bicycle repair services

    Actions taken by the schools
  The initiatives made by schools, in cooperation with municipalities, was very succesful:
  pedibus services, meetings, exhibitions and information campaigns on sustainable
  mobility
Environment Ministry activities for the EMW 2014

   A special Ministry’s website section activated for the EMW promotion and for the
  sponsorship of all the activities connected, information and news about the
  European Mobility Week. The EMW section of the website of the Ministry is one of
  the most clicked between those EU countries

   Through ANCI – National Association of Italian Municipalities – the Minister send
  a letter to all the Italian Municipalities to stimulate them to the active adhesion to
  the EMW 2014;

   Diffusion of EMW through the communication channels of the Representation of
  the European Commission in Italy, which will be organized a meeting of the
  working group SUM - Sustainable Urban Mobility

   With the Ministry of Education, University and Research, awareness campaign in
  schools on issues of sustainable mobility and the use of urban spaces
Environment Ministry activities for EMW 2014

 Agreement with National Academy of Santa Cecilia – Auditorium Park of the Music
and other Cultural institutions about discounted admission to the shows for the
subscribers of the main environmentalist Associations, during the EMW

 Conference organized by Minister, Municipality of Rome, Foundation for Sustainable
Development: “The Car Sharing in Europe”

 ICS open days in which they will prepare some stands to inform citizens about the
service and subscriptions discounted in the Car Sharing service;

 Presentation of “Città amica del camminare - Friendly City of Walking” invitation
promoted by Federtrek and Ministry and dedicated to walking in the city

 Mobility Manager National Coordinating University: conference “work-bike-safe” and
employment areas in the vicinity of the 13 universities involved in events on the
prevalence of mobility

 National Conference on Mobility Manager: Reggio Emilia, September 16; support and
participation at the event organized by Euromobility and launch of the EMW
The SUM Campaign e the Environment Ministry
In order to extend the EMW goals and the number of participants, the European
Commission launched in July 2012 a triennial Campaign for the Urban Sustainable Mobility –
SUM, addressed to the 27 member States of European Union.

In range of the SUM, the Italian Environment Ministry benefits of an European Commission
support for the implementation of a communication and awareness campaign to promote
advantages deriving from a combination of different means of transport.

                                         The Environment Ministry created a work team
                                         (Institutions,      Research         Authorities,
                                         Associations)     which     realized     several
                                         communication initiatives: in particular, n. 3
                                         promotional clips about multimodality, Facebook
                                         page, media buyng campaign

                                            The Working Group conveys messages
                                                and news related to the EMW
