Gav Cross
Twisted Tales for Terrible Children
Scratch the surface of all the tales we have heard since childhood and we find they are dark, nasty and
full of dubious intention. A slight twist reveals the terrible, the silly and the downright incredible ’truths’
hidden in plain sight.
Gav Cross (Storyteller, Show-Off and Chief Idiocy Wrangler for Funny Looking Kids: Comedy Club)
brings these old fables to life again vividly. You’ll have heard these stories before but not told this way…
‘Gav Cross treats children like they’re horrible and adults like they’re children and the results are
hilarious and magical’ Anna Harriott - Arts Programmer, Larmer Tree Festival

Joan Clevillé and the Scottish Dance Theatre
Antigone, Interrupted
A young girl ready to die to defend what she thinks is right. A king determined to impose his will as the
rule of law. Antigone, Interrupted re-imagines a classic story for the modern world through the body and
the voice of a single performer.
This new work by choreographer Joan Clevillé packs all the drama, passion and big ideas of a Greek
tragedy into a one-woman show, created specifically for village halls.
Mixing dance with storytelling and sprinkled with a dash of humour, Antigone, Interrupted is a tour de
force by acclaimed performer Solène Weinachter, who recently appeared in Lost Dog’s Juliet and Romeo.

Jo Fong and George Orange
The Rest of Our Lives
Hopefully hopeful, The Rest of Our Lives is a cabaret of life and near death - a night of dance, circus and
games.
Jo is an old dancer, George an old clown. They are international artists with 100 years of life experience
between them. They’ve reached the mid-way point, and now they’re looking at the rest of their lives
and wondering, what next? They are armed with a soundtrack of floor-fillers, a book of raffle tickets
and a sprinkling of eco-friendly glitter. Join them as they negotiate middle-life together with humour,
tenderness and outlandish optimism.

100% Cotton
The story of a secret, rude songwriter.
Tender, honest and exquisitely naughty. Liz Cotton strums a life’s worth of songs, anxieties, humour and
love into a slyly provocative hour. A stunning guitarist, singer and songwriter.

Haddock & Chips
Taking plaice in Frankie’s chippy in Whitley Bay, we join Bob and Brenda serving up batter and banter in
good measure. But, when the evening takes a dramatic twist and the chip shop becomes an impromptu
arm of the local police station, will Bob, Brenda and the host of characters who pass through the chippy
doors find the strength and compassion within each other to make it through the night?
In turns comedic and dramatic and starring Geordie actors Philippa Wilson and Joe Caffrey, Haddock &
Chips is a real celebration of community spirit and is the perfect takeaway treat.
A pre-show light supper is available at the venues marked with a knife and fork below. Supper must be
booked in advance, see website for details.

Elysium Theatre
Hello & Goodbye
Port Elizabeth, the 1960s: brother and sister Johnnie and Hester Smits have not seen each other in
years. Hester left for good when she was a teenager, Johnnie stayed to look after their invalid father.
When Hester returns to claim the birthright she believes is hers, the stage is set for a moving, poetic,
punchy drama of sibling rivalry, family and the debts we owe each other, financial and otherwise.
Elysium Theatre are based in Durham. Their goal is to bring the best of world theatre to the North of
England and their recent Northumberland-set Miss Julie won a British Theatre Guide award in 2019.
‘A slick, professional production showcasing two fantastic actors at the top of their game. I urge
everyone to watch this masterclass in acting’ The Play’s The Thing

Multi Story
Hefted
Hefted is a play by David Lane, embedded in the landscape, history and psyche of rural life.
Sweeping across 600 years, the story begins in 1475 with a supernatural birth before moving through
nine different scenarios to an imagined 2075, in which stories from the past are retold to heal the
present. Some stories are fantastical, others dramatise real events: all explore the notion of being
‘hefted’ – deeply connected to the land.
Presented by four actors who conjure a score of characters between them and interspersed with song
and a spectacular soundscape, Hefted opens the door for the stories of rural communities to be shared.

Kate Fox
Bigger on the Inside
Poet and comedian Kate Fox once thought receiving a positive diagnosis for autism had as much a
chance of happening as a female Doctor Who. As such, since the Doctor’s 13th incarnation (played by
Jodie Whittaker) in 2018, Fox’s life has changed quite a bit.
Blending stand-up and spoken word with personal memoir and her warm performance style, Kate looks
at neurodiversity through the theme of Doctor Who. Taking us through the ways the iconic sci-fi show
has shaped her view of the world, she shines a light on how our ideas of normality need an update and
how we are all Bigger on the Inside.
Kate is a stand-up poet and broadcaster, a regular voice on Radio 4 and a ‘gentle activist’ for the voices of
Northerners, the working class, women and the neurodiverse.

George Egg
Movable Feast
It’s time for Planes, Trains and Automob-meals (sorry!).
During an evening of live cooking and laugh-out-loud comedy about making food on the move, Anarchist
Cook, George Egg demonstrates ways to procure items from the train buffet trolley, beat the rip-off
restaurant prices at the airport, and even shows you how to turn unexpected roadworks into a picnic.
It’s cheeky, anarchic and creative, a multi-sensory show rich in humour and sprinkled with handy hacks.
This is gourmet food cooked live in the most unconventional ways and with the opportunity to taste the
results at the end, provided you can stop laughing...

Bowjangles
Dracula in Space
Forget everything you think you know about string quartets; Bowjangles is an irreverent, anarchic group
of genre spanners, bringing music, theatre and comedy together in a way you’ve never seen before.
Now, our intrepid foursome are blasting off into outer space to meet a mysterious benefactor, whose
proposition seems a little too good to be true. But what happens when their lead violinist starts to act a
little strangely?
The award winning, internationally acclaimed quartet - who seem to have taken ‘hands, face, space’ a
little too literally - proudly present their new sci-fi horror musical comedy “Dracula in Space”
(WARNING: contains scenes of graphic violins).

isolating he said, eyes on you, not a word spoken. Even when you meet their eyes they don’t look away. Like
they have a right to, like you’re a spectacle, an object.’
Olivia has recently moved into her grandfather’s farmhouse. She’s not local, but she knows her way
around. Matty is a gamekeeper, but he doesn’t often tell anyone. He’s wary of newcomers. These unlikely
strangers find themselves beside a stream on the longest night of the year.
Pentabus and Theatre by the Lake, Keswick present a brilliant new drama from award-winning
playwright Lorna French.

The Princess and the Pea
Meet a demanding queen, an array of wannabe princesses, an unknown girl who is blown into the palace
by a gust of wind, and an indecisive prince under pressure to find his real princess and live happily ever
after.
Set in the Museum of Forgotten Things, three musical curators tell the amazing tale of the museum’s
artefacts including the mystery of a little green pea and how it got there. A fun-filled show packed with
humour and memorable songs, including a romp through every type of princess you can imagine and
hilarious costumes to match.
In this new and updated adaptation of Hans
Christian Andersen’s popular story, Mike Kenny
and the inventive TuttiFrutti team once again
create a funny, original, and beautiful retelling of
this familiar tale.

Alison Neil
Larks and Magic
Alison Neil (enchanting performer, award-winning playwright and Highlights regular) tells the story
of The Railway Children author Edith Nesbit in the latest of her entertaining one-woman shows about
amazing women from history.
Quixotic, charming and maddening, Edith’s bohemian private life was jaw-dropping, even by modern
standards. She knew everyone: G B Shaw, H G Wells, E M Forster, Noel Coward; was a founding member
of the Fabian Society; and wrote a staggering quantity of books, short stories and poetry.
Larks and Magic tells the story of her struggle to keep her strange family above water, without losing her
zest for life or sense of humour, and provides a dazzling glimpse into a tempestuous, joyful, brilliant and
extraordinary life.
‘I was transported to another age and another time as you brought Nesbit alive for me’

Martin Harley
Live in Concert
Martin Harley has been making music and touring the world for over two decades. His sound has never
been more down to earth, exploring roots, blues and slide guitar in a style The Guardian refers to as
‘Spellbinding’. Harley has released eight albums to date, four recorded on home soil and four across the
Atlantic in Texas and Nashville, recording and performing with the likes of Eric Clapton, Van Morrison and
Laura Marling along the way.
Martin’s live performances have found a growing global demand and we’re very fortunate to be able to
appreciate Martin’s great songwriting and guitar playing in the intimate settings that rural touring can
provide.
