Opinion of Telangana People

As Mahatma Gandhi said “You may never know what results come of your action, but if
you do nothing there will be no result”, we will try to make a sincere attempt to convey
our opinion on Telangana.

Opinion of Telangana People
We believe opinion of Telangana people must be respected and considered as an
important factor in making a decision on Telangana. We do not think opinion of Andhra
region is important in making decision about separate Telangana state, because they have
broken many agreements such as Gentleman’s agreement, SRC (States Reorganization
Committee) recommendations, GO 610, and so on. However, we need to resolve their
concerns, like river water sharing, safety of seemandhra people settled in Hyderabad etc.
Telangana people should have an opportunity to decide their own fate, instead of Andhra
region imposing its will on Telangana people. As Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru once said
“The man, who has gotten everything he wants, is all in favor of peace and order”.
Andhra region has everything, so they want statusquo. Whereas the Telangana people
have been robbed of their natural resources, diverted central government allocated funds,
robbed of their high paying jobs etc, definitely want to have separate Telangana state.

Discrimination
Flood flow canal was proposed in 1984 by the then PM Smt. Indira Gandhi to irrigate the
upland regions of Karimnagar, Warangal and Nalgonda. The project was delayed for
decades for one reason or other, while other projects in Andhra region completed on war
footing. To this day, the project is not complete and we still depend on rain for our
irrigation. Even Today we see child labor in the fields, hunger deaths and farmers’
suicides in Karimnagar district.

IT revolution in India and Globalization
Many children in India want to compete with Chinese and Westerners for global
dominance in science and technology, but the Telangana children are nowhere in
competition, because we don’t have good schools or colleges in rural Telangana. Even
though Hyderabad city has many IT, Pharma and other companies, most of our young
people don't have adequate education to take up the jobs. Our education system has been
discriminated for the last 5 decades and we can only improve our children’s lives with
our own rule.

National Unity and Integrity
There is no merit to the argument that Telugu people should be together in one state. We
did not get any special projects when we sent 35 to 40 MPs to a ruling party for decades.
We are seeing regionalism in many parts of the country. We should not encourage
regionalism for long term national interests.

Garibiyon ko Hatao
Garibi hatao (Eliminate Poverty) was the theme and slogan of late PM Smt. Indira
Gandhi, but Andhra rulers have an agenda of "Garibiyon ko Hatao" (Eliminate the poor
people, not their poverty) from poor Telangana districts indirectly by ignoring their
problems. Millions of poor people migrated from Telangana districts to gulf countries,
Mumbai, Bhivandi and other places for their livelihood leaving wives and children at
home. Thousand of our young people are languishing in Gulf jails. Some of these people
made it home and some didn’t, leaving their families at mercy of God.

Backward Area
According to the Backward Regions Grant Fund 2009-10
(http://panchayat.gov.in/brgf/Report.do? method=BRGFdistrict), 9 out of 10 Telangana
districts are backward. How can we not say it is not discrimination, when 9 out of 10
Telangana districts are backward where as only 4 out of 13 Andhra region districts are
backward after 53 years of combined state? Dr. B.R. Ambedkar argued for reservations
for dalits and backward communities. We are requesting reservation for backward
Telangana districts by creating Telangana state.

Mass Migration and its effect on Hyderabad

According to World Gazetteer, Hyderabad population has risen by 400,000 in 10 years.
Werner Fornos, president of the Washington based Population Institute commented that
the increase in urban population will impose pressure on the space infrastructure and
resources of cities, leading to social disintegration and horrific urban poverty. Hyderabad
is not adequately developed to absorb millions more. Millions of children living in the
largest cities are exposed to life-threatening air pollution two to eight times above the
maximum WHO guidelines. Land grabbing increased exponentially as some of the
Andhra leaders bring their own goons to threaten or kill local people. We think it is good
idea to develop another big city in Andhra region as their capital city to take some burden
off of Hyderabad. Also it is important to develop evenly among all districts of Telangana.

Save our children

We believe Naxalites issue is a socio economical issue and it can be resolved by
developing the area. Uneducated and unemployed youth attracted to Naxalism, because
successive Govts utterly failed to provide basic necessities in Telangana villages.
According to the Indian home ministry, the number of civilians killed in Maoist-affected
areas during 2005 to 2008 were 1,965 in comparison to 1,666 in North east and 1,195 in
Jammu and Kashmir. These scars in our lives can not be washed away, but at least we
can prevent our children from joining violent groups by developing Telangana in at faster
pace. I firmly believe that the development of Telangana is possible only with separate
Telangana state.

Small states are better
Smaller states are conceptually better governed; Telangana is a good step says George
Mathew, director, Institute of Social Sciences (ISS). Amazingly, all three new states,
Jharkhand , Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand have grown fabulously fast. These
underdeveloped parts of the big states emerged highly dynamic states. The following data
is taken form Indicus (Economic research firm) analysis, Small States-Large State by
Sumita Kale, Laveesh Bhandari.

Victims
Telangana people have been victims for centuries. In the recent history, Razakars
(private army of Nizam) perpetuated atrocities on our men, women and children in a
desperate attempt to keep Hyderabad state as Independent. Hundreds of students lost
lives in 1969 and 2010 to realize their dream of Telangana, thousands and thousands of
innocent people got killed in the crossfire between police and naxalites, thousands of
farmers, weavers committed suicides, hundreds of thousands of children left as orphans,
elderly died because no one was there to take care of them.

Telangana is an unwanted sibling for the Andhra region people of Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra rulers have always discriminated Telangana people, its culture and its way of life.
Telangana history is no where to be found in text books, Telangana festivals are low class
affairs for them, Telangana language is used by villains in the movies. Telangana people
never got any respect from these rules for decades. Mahatma Gandhi once said “Self-
respect knows no considerations”. It is time to end their rule and demerge Telangana
from Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra rulers plus regionalist Andhra bureaucrats ignored Telangana. All the
agreements were dishonored and all the promises were broken from the beginning of the
merger in 1956. Former Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr. Davender Goud has
complained that his orders were disobeyed or delayed, whenever he wanted to do
something in Telangana. Not only Andhra rulers, but also selfish Andhra bureaucrats
ignored Telangana for too long. The justice can only be achieved through Telangana
state. Please don’t accept the lies by Andhra rulers that all is well in Telangana.
We gave Andhra Pradesh state 53 years and we got dead bodies, widows, orphans,
hunger deaths, uneducated men and women and unemployed youth. Present combined
state doesn’t work. Change is what the Telangana people need. President Barak
Obama of United States has said “Change will not come if we wait for some other
person or some other time.” We do not think that things will get better with a special
package or regional boards. We deserve fundamental change the way Telangana is
administered. You help can give hopes to millions of our young men and women. Your
direction to our students is vital to their success. It is time to break the merged Telangana
and Andhra region

Hundreds of people, especially students died in the Telangana agitation for the last five
decades. Dr. B.R Ambedkar once said. “My final words of advice to you are educate,
agitate and organize; have faith in yourself. With justice on our side I do not see how we
can lose our battle. The battle to me is a matter of joy. The battle is in the fullest sense
spiritual. There is nothing material or social in it. For ours is a battle not for wealth or
for power. It is battle for freedom. It is the battle of reclamation of human personality”.
We keep our spirits up and continue to fight for justice.
