One of the highlights of the ‘Yarns in Barns’
festival of reading is – the yarns in the barn.
Each festival at least one event is staged at
the Strang family woolshed at Gladstone. For
the last ten years I have either participated as
a moderator, an MC, or as one of the featured
authors.
The events have been varied – sharing tales
with well-known comedian Te Radar and less-
well-known comedian, but author of a great
biography of Billy T. James, Matt Elliott, was
great fun, as was interviewing ex-policeman
‘Big’ Al Lester about his hunting book.
This year I am going to be hosting world
renowned animal trainer and behaviourist, Mark Vette, telling stories from
his life from Buddhism to Hollywood and all the puppies in between as told
in his new memoir Zen Heart: What I have learnt from Animals and Life.
You will have seen Mark’s work – he has working in film and television, most
famously perhaps with the dog in the Toyota ute advert.
He’s has had a very
interesting life, and will have
some great yarns for the
barn.
I also hear talk that there
may be puppies involved,
so it will be an afternoon to
savour in the country.
See you there.
