Dear Parents and Carers,

As part of the Lydiate Learning Trust, Childwall Sports and Science Academy aims to reflect our
school’s commitment to ENGAGE, ENABLE AND EMPOWER our students, whilst offering the highest
quality of teaching and learning, which will equip students for life in their community, modern
Britain and the wider global society.

I am delighted to welcome you to our school as a new Year 7 family. It genuinely is an exciting time
to join Childwall as we plan for the next cohort of students and parents joining our community in

Our mission is to facilitate “learning without limits” for your children, within our school community.
Rest assured we will make every effort to ensure your child’s start to their learning journey at
Childwall Sports and Science Academy is inspirational.

Thank you again for choosing Childwall. I look forward to meeting you all. My skilled Transition team

PASTORAL CARE:

Form Tutors are responsible for the
general welfare of their students.

A Form Group consists of
approximately 28 students and they
meet with the Form Tutor every
morning for registration and form
time.

Form Tutors are the first point of
contact for students requiring help,
support and advice. Each Form Tutor
is part of a Year Team led by their
respective Head of Year.

READING:

Students at Childwall read with their
Form tutors for 30 minutes every
day. We recognise the importance of
reading in our lives and in our
development of vocabulary and
literacy skills.

We also feel it is important for
children to escape from reality on
occasion, giving us a healthy
wellbeing boost that keeps mentally
fit.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES:
Student Support Services is located across the corridor from the main reception and offers a range of
services, including support and guidance, timetables, transport advice, medical and first aid assistance
and counselling. Please email Mrs State Cannon on G.State-Cannon@childwallssa.org if you wish to
discuss your child's medical needs.

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY:
Attendance and punctuality are essential in ensuring your child reaches their maximum potential at
Childwall Sports and Science Academy. If for any reason your child is unable to attend school, please
contact the attendance office as early as possible on 0151 737 4952. If the Attendance team don't
recieve notification to say your child will be absent, they will send out a text to ask why your child is
not in school as this is in line with safeguarding protocol. On some occasions, medical evidence may be
requested to authorise an absence.

The school communicates with parents in the following ways:
· School website: www.childwallsa.org
· https://twitter.com/childwall_acad
· Letters distributed via the students
· Text message system via the Synergy Parent app
· Via Form Tutors and Pastoral staff

Please speak to your child’s Form Tutor as your first point of contact for teaching
and learning related queries within the school.

PROGRESS AND PARENTAL FEEDBACK:
Throughout the year you will receive feedback regarding how your child is settling in and progressing
via our Parent Review Evenings. You will also receive a formal progress report after each assessment
point throughout the academic year. Please visit the school website for specific dates. In addition to
these events, we value your feedback on how well we are doing and invite you to complete our school
surveys on a regular basis.

PERSONAL PROPERTY:
Mobile phones are the responsibility of students and must be kept switched off and out of sight at all
times. We recommend that no other electronic device is brought into school. Please read our mobile
phone policy here: https://www.childwallssa.org/downloads/policies/cssa_mobile_phone_policy.pdf

SCHOOL MEALS

Students in Years 7 - 11 eat lunch in the school dining hall. Lunch includes a selection of hot foods,
sandwiches, paninis, pasta dishes and desserts. The school prides itself in offering healthy affordable
meals. All food must be consumed in the dining room. Students may also bring packed lunches to eat in
the dining hall.

The school operates a cashless finger print system whereby students can check their individual school
dinner account and add funds to purchase to school meals. The cashless system machines are located
near the dining hall and students can use them before school, and during break and lunch times.

Students who are entitled to free school lunches, automatically have their cashless finger print account
updated by the school finance team, enabling them to purchase free school lunches. Parents, who are in
receipt of certain means tested benefits, may be eligible to receive free school meals.
