Our Story
In 1936, while the small town of Gilbert, Arizona, was written up as the
“Alfalfa Hay Capital of the World,” Father Vincent Mastres celebrated the
first Mass on November 22, in the small adobe mission church, located
on 20 West Bruce Avenue, which he and a group of volunteers built with
a $3,000.00 donation from the Catholic Church Extension of Chicago. The
building could hold seventy people, and served as a mission of St. Mary
Parish in Chandler. Sunday Masses were celebrated by the administrator
Father Joseph Patterson.

On October 22, 1943, the mission became St. Anne Parish with its own
pastor: Father Godfrey Fontaine. Dominican Sisters from Michigan arrived in
1948 and established a school for kindergarten through 4 th Grade, which
later closed in 1958. After being served by a series of faithful pastors for
thirty-five years, the old adobe church was torn down to be replaced by a
220-person capacity church which cost $80,000.00, financed through the
Charity and Development Appeal Fund. It was dedicated on August 1, 1971,
by Bishop Edward McCarthy; the pastor was Father Vincent Nevulis.

In 1985, Father Raul Morales organized a building fund campaign to build
a church at the new site on Elliot Road. The first Mass in the new church
took place on February 25, 1989 and the temple was dedicated on April 30,
1989 by Bishop Thomas O’Brien. At present, this space is now known as
the Parish Hall.

Three years beforehand, in 1986, 74-year-old Father Stephen Adrian came as
Associate Pastor. Father Adrian would remain a faithful servant and refused
to retire until his peaceful passing in 2013, when he was 101 years old. A
former Episcopalian priest who had converted to Catholicism and eventually
ordained a Catholic priest in 1984, Father Douglas Lorig was installed as
the new pastor in June, 1989. Father Lorig soon started perpetual adoration
of the Blessed Sacrament in 1993, by converting his own office space into
an Adoration Chapel. With the surging population growth in Gilbert and
surrounding areas, a new church was desperately needed. Under Father
Lorig’s leadership, our present church was built and the dedication Mass was
celebrated by Bishop Thomas O’Brien on April 21, 1998.

The parish grew to over 4,500 registered families, becoming one of the
largest parishes in the country! Almost all of the ministries we have at the
church today started during this time and continue to flourish. In 1999 we
welcomed sisters from Mexico – the Carmelite Missionaries of St. Therese
of the Child Jesus (Misioneras Carmelitas de St. Teresa del Niño Jesus) who
joyfully helped out in our growing Hispanic ministries. We then raised funds to
construct a monastery for them in Mexico which was completed in 2002. We
continue to be blessed by the presence of the Carmelite sisters, helping out
not only here, but in other parishes as well.

The Diocese of Phoenix would also experience a change in December of
2003 - Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted was installed as our new Bishop. Father
Lorig was succeeded by Father Gregory Schlarb in 2006. In 2012, our current
pastor Father Sergio Fita, and his associate Father Juan Cano, arrived from
Spain. They belong to Servi Trinitatis (Servants of the Trinity), a secular
institute of the Church, which was founded in Spain. This is the first parish in
the United States where this order has sent priests to serve God’s people. In
July of 2014, parishioners bid farewell to Father Juan Cano who left to start
his new assignment in Spain. For the last two years up to the present, we’ve
been blessed with the help of several visiting priests, among them – Father
Charles Casale, Msgr. Michael Nestor, and Father Dennis Riccitelli. Currently,
we’re enjoying the assistance of Parochial Vicar, Father Job Kundoni from
Diocese of Verapoly, India and Father Joal Bernales, a Diocese of Phoenix
priest originally from the Philippines.

In October of 2014, we celebrated our 70th year of being a parish! Today,
we continue to pray for the Lord’s guidance and providence, and Our Lady’s
motherly care, as we continue our mission of the New Evanglization. St. Anne,
St. Therese, and all the angels and saints...Pray for Us!

Catechesis and Faith Formation:
Children - Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)
NOTE: Registered parishioners can sign up for CGS sessions on line.
“At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, ‘Who is the greatest
in the kingdom of heaven?’ He called a child over, placed it in their midst,
and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like
this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives
one child such as this in my name receives me.” (Mt 18:1-5)

What is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)?
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is an approach to the religious
formation of children 3-12 years of age. The catechesis is based on the
conviction that God and the child are already in relationship. The atrium is
the environment where adults help a child to live fully the encounter with
God, and where formation takes place. It’s one of the elements that help
the relationship between God and the child to flourish, making the atrium
a place of preparation for involvement in the larger worshiping community.

Meeting Times
  • Tuesdays: 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Sundays: 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The children attend one 90-minute session a week. The last ten to fifteen
minutes of a session are spent in prayer. From time to time the children may
desire to remain longer in prayer.

Plan your visit
We’re happy to have you observe this sacred space, prepared for the
child’s work to become prayer, any time you’d like. In fact we encourage
it! To preserve the natural rhythm of the atrium we ask that you review a
copy of the guidelines for observing from the CGS Office. Please let your

                                     11
child’s catechist know when you’d like to come for a visit so a place can be
prepared for you.
The CGS Office is located in the Parish Office. Please see the Contact Us
page for office hours. Doris is the CGS office assistant. The office staff can
answer any general questions. If you have issues or concerns of a personal
or spiritual nature please contact the CGS coordinator at (480) 507-4451.

Junior High – BATTLE:
Becoming All That The Lord Expects
The purpose of this group is to teach 5th through 8th graders more about
their faith, developing a relationship with God through prayer, learning acts
of charity through apostolic work, and interacting with their peers in a safe
environment. The four main pillars that we focus on are: Catechism, Prayer,
Service and Social.

BATTLE meets once a week on either Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00
p.m. or Monday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Every last Monday
of the month we have a “Mix it up Monday” where the youth gets to learn
about the saint of the month, and engage in fun activities with their peers.

and interact in a youthful, simple age-appropriate way with their peers, core
team members and their Catholic faith.

The youth group meets once a week on Sundays after the evening Mass to
learn more about their faith and also attend to social events such as hiking,
sports and day retreats throughout the year.

High School and Young Adults - Los Cristeros
“Let no one have contempt for your youth, but set an example for those
who believe, in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.” (1 Tm 4:12)

The mission of the Cristeros Hispanic Youth Group is to show Jesus
to the youth, so that they can develop a relationship with God through
prayer, charity, and be disciples of Jesus. Youth are encouraged to learn,
participate, and interact with their peers in a way that is relevant to their
young age.
The Cristeros meet once a week to learn more about the faith and also
attend other social events such as charity fundraisers, sports days, and
retreats. Meeting time is 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

Young Adults - Catholics in Action
In collaboration with Catholics in Action Corp., St. Anne provides a ministry
in which young adults learn about their faith as well as grow in community
with other young adults.

The Young Adult CiA Group is composed of 18 - 35 year olds who are
interested in learning about Catholic Action Spirituality. Meetings are
held every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. The meetings begin with
mandatory Holy Hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by formation in the
San Juan Diego chapel from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

To learn more, email info@catholicsinaction.us, or send a message via
Flocknote.

Young Family Ministry
The purpose of this ministry is to provide an avenue for young families within
the parish to grow in friendship and community with on another, offering
support, and encouragement to both parents and children as they walk
along their spiritual journey. All families with children from infancy through
elementary school are invited to participate in this ministry. By fostering the
growth of friendhip and prayer within our own families, we hope to bring the
ligh of Christ to the Church and the rest of the world.

“Thus the little domestic Church, like the greater Church, needs to be
constantly and intensely evangelized...the family, like the Church, ought
to be a place where the Gospel is transmitted and from which the Gospel
radiates...the future of evangelization depends in great part on the Church
of the home”

- Pope Saint John Paul II

The Young Family Ministry is currently looking for a volunteer to coordinate
events like going to playgrounds to pray the rosary, weekly book studies for
moms, monthly storytime for preschool aged children, monthly confession
opportunities with childcare, and other social events.

Contact us at youngfamilyministry@stanneaz.org.

Liturgical Ministries

Altar Boys
An altar server is a lay assistant to a member of the clergy during a Christian
religious service. An altar server attends to supporting tasks at the altar such
as retrieving and carrying items, ringing the altar bell and so on. If you’d like
to learn more information about becoming an altar server, please contact
Peter Faulk at (480) 507-4400, or e-mail at altarboyministry@stanneaz.org.

Art & Environment
The Art & Environment Ministry manages the decorations for the liturgy,
which includes funerals and Masses. There’s room for creativity in this
ministry in the sense that volunteers can design and create their own
decorations for these events.

If you’re interested in becoming a part of the Art & Environment Ministry at
St. Anne, please contact John Hernandez at (480) 495-1100, or e-mail at

Choir
This ministry provides leadership at all parish liturgical celebrations
throughout the year with singers and musicians.

Music Ministers are not here to “perform”

Yes, my friends, how can we keep from singing? This is an opportunity
to express outwardly the union in spirit by means of the unity of all of our
voices. Our music ministers are here for the purpose of assisting God’s
holy people to give thanks and praise. The elements, forms, and styles of
music are created and molded depending upon the liturgical context of
the celebration. Music ministers are not here to “perform,” but to celebrate
God’s reign in our world - to make a joyful noise to the Lord and hopefully
to inspire you to join them.

Psalms of David

Father Eugene Walsh wrote, “The full symbol of the word of God proclaimed
in the midst of the parish Sunday assembly is the assembly itself, sharing
the living word of God alive in voice and song...” The magnificent Psalms
of David exort us all to participate fully: Psalm 71 - “I will sing of your
salvation.” Psalm 145 - “I will praise your name, my King and my God.”

We urge everyone to come to the table of the Lord and participate fully
through prayer and song!

What do I need to do in order to be a music minister?
There are a few requirements:

   • B
e a registered member of St. Anne and obtain current “Called to

cantors. This very important person leads the congregation in song at Mass,
proclaims the responsorial psalm, and helps enliven all of us to participate
fully in the liturgy. Some extra rehearsals and membership in at least one
choir are required.

celebrations of the Eucharist, which is the source and summit of our lives
as Christians.

The sacristan is responsible for ensuring that prior to each liturgy all elements
necessary for that celebration are ready.

Greeters & Hospitality
A ministry of joy...
This ministry can also be understood as a ministry of joy. Ushers and
greeters invite everyone to enter into the joy of the Lord. This means that
the ushers and greeters must be in touch with that joy too. That’s easier on
some days than on others. We may have to push ourselves to manifest the
joy of Christ; but when we do, we benefit as much as those whom we greet.
The conversation between an arriving worshiper and an usher or greeter is
often very brief, especially as the time for worship nears and the number of
people arriving increases. But brief doesn’t have to mean superficial.

                                      18
440 EAST ELLIOT ROAD • GILBERT, AZ 85234-5989

…and care.

If you see someone whose spouse is ill, you might ask how he or she is
doing. If you greet someone who is out of work, you might inquire how he
or she’s holding up. If you welcome someone who has recently lost a loved
one, offering a word of sympathy may be very appropriate. If you greet
someone whose child is away at school, you might ask if they have heard
from the child and how he or she’s doing. In other words, what’s most
appropriate is the kind of conversation that says, “I care about you and your
loved ones.” This kind of conversation makes evident the love of Christ that
binds us to one another. It’s much more powerful than idle talk about sports,
or the weather.

Ushers’ duties before people arrive
The work of the Minister of Hospitality begins even before the assembly
begins to gather for worship. Good hospitality requires attention to the
physical space into which people will be welcomed. When you know that
visitors are coming to your house, you pick up, dust and vacuum so that
your guests will enjoy their visit. Although ushers usually aren’t responsible
for dusting, vacuuming, and putting away things that clutter the gathering
space, it’s often needed. The roles of the usher and greeter are crucial
ministries for the worshiping community. Those who serve in these
capacities have the potential to add greatly to the experience of worship
for all who gather.

Like the Good Shepherd, they reveal God’s love in our midst and help
us become more aware of that love. May the Good Shepherd give them
strength and wisdom as they serve the flock in his name.

What do I need in order to be a Minister of Hospitality?
There are a few prerequisites for being an usher/greeter.

   • B
e a registered member of St. Anne and possess Called to Protect
     certification with the diocese.
   • B
e a baptized and confirmed member of the Catholic Church who

                                     19
• B

Lectors
Lectors are called to break open the Word of God and deeply meditate
on the story of our faith, which is rich of God’s boundless love for us with
the summit of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. They proclaim this faith
to all during Mass. As humble instruments, the Holy Spirit works through
lectors to feed us God’s words and in turn prepares us to encounter Jesus
in the Eucharist. Scripture studies are encouraged for each week’s assigned
lectors to prayerfully and communally meditate on the Liturgy of the Word.
If you’d like to learn more about becoming a lector, please contact either

Social Outreach
Friends of the Needy
Humble Beginnings

Many parishes within the Diocese of Phoenix assist the needy, but St. Anne
has a ministry called Friends of the Needy which is unique and came into
being in a unique way. In the mid-1980’s, when the current site of our church
was still a pecan grove, the pastor, Father Charles O’Hern was working to
increase the parish building fund. One fund raising event “The Valentine’s
Day Dance” was an old tradition at St. Anne. Young women from the parish
would raise money for the building fund, and the woman who raised the
most money was crowned as Valentine’s Day Queen at the dance.

In 1986, Miss Teri Hernandez raised $3,000 by holding yard sales, soliciting
money from local businesses in the community, and organizing raffles. As
Teri and her family held these yard sales near the old church site on Bruce
Street, they grew increasingly familiar with the people in the downtown
Gilbert area, many of whom were poor. The fundraising soon extended to
buying diapers for the needy, as coordinated by Sister Beatrice McQuade
and Barbara Hennessey. It became very apparent these people needed
much more than diapers, so Teri’s group continued having yard sales so
they could buy food, diapers and help with utility bills for the less fortunate.

“That’s how Friends of the Needy Ministry started and we expanded from
there,” says Merci Hernandez, Teri’s mother and current Director of Friends
of the Needy. “We just kept asking people within the parish to donate food
and we started a little pantry in the old rectory on Bruce Street. While other
parishes have their own St. Vincent de Paul ministry, we developed our

Friends of the Needy ministry separately based on our available space and
ability to help the community.” The ministry was officially established in 1988,
under the guidance of Father Raul Morales, the pastor of St. Anne from 1985
until 1992. Father Doug Lorig arrived as the new pastor in June 1992 and
he gave the ministry his full support, allowing Friends of the Needy to collect
money after Masses. That was when the need to hold raffles and yard sales
slowed down and the ministry was able to concentrate on helping the needy
using parishioner funds. St. Anne Friends of the Needy is funded primarily by
St. Anne parishioners.

Services Provided

Since its modest beginnings, the Friends of the Needy ministry has grown
into a vehicle that allows parishioners to help those less fortunate in our
community who have difficulty making ends meet. Our staff assesses the
needs of a family on a case by case basis, and helps them based upon the
results of this assessment.

The services we provide include:

  • F
ood. Volunteers put together food boxes for families or individuals. The
size and contents of each box is determined by the client’s needs as
assessed by the Friends of the Needy volunteers.

  • N
ew or gently used clothing. Friends of the Needy has a thrift store
stocked with new and gently used clothing. Clients can shop our store
while waiting for their food boxes. Items are reasonably priced and
clients pay what they can afford. If a client’s unemployed, or cannot
afford to pay we provide them with the essentials they need.

  • C
hildren’s toys. We have a small collection of donated toys available in
    our store.

  • H
ousehold items and small appliances. People donate small household
appliances and items to us, and clients pay a minimal amount based
upon what they can afford for an item. If a client cannot afford to pay we
will give them the appliances they need.

  • L
arge household appliances and furniture. We facilitate the exchange
of larger household appliances and furniture donated to Friends of the
Needy by connecting clients with donating parishioners. There’s no
charge for this service or any item donated to us in this category.

                                      23
• R
eferrals. Friends of the Needy provides referrals to many other agencies
in the community such as the Gilbert CommunityAction Program (CAP)
    or the Salvation Army.

  • A
ssistance. Friends of the Needy provides clients with assistance in
applying for governmental assistance programs such as food stamps
or unemployment benefits. We’ve also helped several clients with
applications when applying for low-income medical payment programs
    with the local hospitals.

  • U
tility bill assistance. Friends of the Needy helps clients pay for basic
needs like water, gas and electricity.

  • R
ental assistance (suspended at this time). Previously, we provided
rental assistance to our clients. We feel this is something we would like
to continue to do, but at this time we don’t have the funding to extend
this help. If you’d like to provide some of this funding, please contact
Merci Hernandez at (480) 507–4466, or send a message via Flocknote.

We assist people within our parish geographic boundaries as dictated by
the Diocese of Phoenix. If someone from outside our area comes to us for
assistance with food, we provide it for them one time and refer them to
the proper parish for assistance. The exception to this rule is our
Saturday food box service that is open every Saturday to anyone
from surrounding communities.

Respect Life
What does it mean to be Pro-life?

We Catholics are thoroughly and unabashedly pro-life. We are pro-life
because we believe life is sacred. We are pro-life because the Church
teaches us that we humans are created in the image and likeness of God.
For these reasons:

  • We are pro-preborn babies, pro-newborn babies, pro-woman, pro-

                                     24

    child, pro-man, pro-elderly, pro-vulnerable, pro-human, and pro-
    creation!

 • W
e reject the shallow mantra of “pro-choice” which masks any
thoughtful consideration of sexual intercourse, pregnancy, childbirth,
   or abortion.

 • We reject the unfinished thought of a woman’s right to choose. . .

 • W
e reject the fashionable claim of “reproductive rights” which has
resulted in untold millions of abortions.

 • W
e reject contraception in all its forms, but especially those forms that
silently abort such as: the pill, the patch, injections and the morning
   after pill.

 • W
e reject violence and unnatural death in all its forms—abortion,
terrorism, unjust war, capital punishment, and euthanasia.

 • W
e embrace the fact that we humans procreate, not reproduce:
Animals reproduce. Machines copy. Humans procreate.

 • W
e know that “life” and the future of the human community are sexually
transmitted—by the wondrous design of our maker.

 • W
e are in awe of the power God has invested in us: that we, imaging
God’s creativity, have the power to create new humans in God’s image.

 • W
e believe that at the moment of human conception, through the
power of the Holy Spirit, a new and unique soul is created by God.

 • W
e embrace the fact that humans need to live in community, responsive
to each other, caring for the young, the sick and the old, sharing their
   burdens and joys.

Communications California Catholic Conference

Prison Ministry (Prisión y Cárcel)
We pray that by sowing the seed of the Gospel to the incarcerated, it
may land on fertile soil and assist them in finding salvation and lead to an
experience of true conversion. This conversion and acceptance of salvation
would thus free them of sin; alleviate their sorrow, and diminish the inner
emptiness and loneliness in which they all experience. God’s word is
unpredictable in its power (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, 22).

Francisco, Evangelii Gaudium, 22).

We are volunteers who are to bring the joy of the Gospel to all people in
all places, especially those who are incarcerated in jails and prisons. We
support their spiritual needs . We meet once a week on Wednesday at noon

The Giving Tree

Catholics in Action

Catholics in Action is an apostolate group which depends on the secular
institute Servi Trinitatis and which configures itself as Catholic Action. Or
in other words: Catholics in Action is a Catholic Action group which the
Church has entrusted through its hierarchy to the secular institute Servi
Trinitatis. With lay apostolate and fidelity to the pope being two of Servi
Trinitatis’ ends, it’s understandable that it would assume, in a particular
way, the call of the Church to promote this lay apostolate, which is the
Catholic Action, wherever it develops its own. In this manner, Servi Trinitatis
contributes to laity finding their way towards sainthood in their faithfulness
to the Gospel, in the development of its activity throughout the world, and
with the purpose of working to win souls for Christ. At this time, the secular
institute of Servi Trinitatis is developing its apostolate at the parish of St.
Anne, in Gilbert, Arizona.

Cursillo Movement
The Cursillo Movement is a movement of the Catholic Church. The name
cursillo is Spanish, meaning short course, and is often associated with a
three-day weekend which is only one aspect of the Cursillo Movement.
The proper name is Cursillo de Cristiandad (short course of Christianity). In
general it teaches lay people how to become effective Catholic leaders and

                                       29
to take what they learn out into the world. Personal spiritual development
is paramount along with staying strong in the faith by sharing in regular
reunions with other participants.

Guadalupanas
The Guadalupanas meets on the second Thursday of the month and attends
Mass as a group on the second Sunday of each month. During the meetings,
the rosary is prayed for special intentions and needs, as well as presenting
a bouquet of roses to Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Guadalupanas prepare
for the feast day of Our Lady by praying a novena at Our Lady’s shrine. Per
the group’s tradition, a mariachi band serenades “Mañanitas” to Our Lady
in the early morning followed by a Mass. Following Mass, hot chocolate,
coffee and Mexican cookies are shared with everyone.

Returning Catholics
A welcoming ministry for anyone who, for various reasons, has drifted
away from the sacraments and the full practice of the faith. Because of
our baptism, we are members of one family. Come take another look at
the church of your childhood. We’ll never judge or condemn. Let’s walk
together in good times and in bad, through laughter and through tears!
For more information, please contact Aurora Sarmiento at (480) 507-4433,
e-mail at auroras@stanneaz.org, or send a message via Flocknote.

Small Altar Cloths Caretakers (SACCs)
We are a group of ladies who are intimately involved in the daily life of
the Church. How? We take care of the small altar cloths that are used at
every Mass: Coporals, Purificators, Lavabo towels, and other pieces as
needed. As we wash, iron, and fold these items (in very specific ways), we
offer prayers for all the souls in Purgatory, and also other intentions. We
welcome more team-members in our rotation system duties, which means
your turn comes only every few weeks. It is an awesome privilege to serve
at the banquet table of the Lord, by preparing the cloths that touch His
Precious Body and His Precious Blood!
If you would like to participate in this silent labor of love, and experience
its unique rewards, contact Aurora Sarmiento at (480) 507-4433, e-mail at
auroras@stanneaz.org.

Sons of St. Joseph
Sons of St. Joseph has existed at St. Anne’s for 20 years to provide
fellowship and biblical insight with the goal of better knowing God and how
to serve Him. Our current focus is an in-depth study on the next Sunday’s
readings. Please try to bring your own Catholic translation of the Bible and
use it during our time together on Saturday. The Bible studies provided
use the lectionary version of the New American Bible, but any approved
Catholic translation is fine. If you forget your Bible, we have Bibles and
Catechisms for you to use at the meeting place. We meet after the 7 AM
Mass every Saturday morning till about 9 AM in the liturgy conference room
in the church.

Door-to-Door Evangelization
This ministry sends out evangelists two-by-two door-to-door particularly to
invite fallen away Catholics, non-practicing Catholics parents of unbaptized
children, and parents looking for instruction for their children, in addition, to
invite anyone searching for the truth, a church or even those just curious.
A few join RCIA, some come back to Mass and some do get their children
baptized. For the few who are receptive this is life changing. The goal is to
visit every house inside the parish boundary with an invitation to come to St.
Anne’s church. Training and materials are provided with Safe Environment
Training required. While Saturday mornings are a traditional time to go
out, anytime can be fruitful. One does not have to be an apologist to be
successful.

For more information contact Jim Montgomery at (602) 638-5449, or
jmontgomery@stanneaz.org.

Misterio de Hospitalidad (Ministry of Hospitality, Spanish)
My name is Oscar Lopez and I represent the ministry of hospitality. We
know that hospitality is a vital element that provides a sense of community
for the liturgical celebration, as St. Paul tells us “Welcome one another as
Christ welcomed you for the glory of God.” (Rom: 15:7) This way people
arriving at the celebration will feel welcomed and valued.
The hospitality and welcoming ministry is open to men and women who
intend to serve in different functions and in the same way receive people
with a smile and kindness that encourage and comfort the faithful in our
Sunday celebration or according to the chance.
In this same way the participants in the ministry may invite anyone who
would like to join this group.
For more information, contact either Oscar Lopez at (480) 510-6856 or
e-mail at ola1957@hotmail.com or Gabriel Moreno at (602) 758-9176.

Danza Caxcan
Danza Caxcan was formed in 2009. The age of the danzantes varies from
7 - 80 years of age. In our danza we have female and male members. Our
danzantes are of Mexican and Puerto Rican decent. But we would gladly
accept anyone of any nationality. Danza Caxcan first originated in central
Zacatecas in honor of Santa Maria de Rosario on the 7th of October. We
dance to celebrate the saints, such as: Día de honorar a tu madre, Día de
Santa Ana, St. Anne’s catholic Parish’s Anniversary, and December 12th for
our Virgen de Guadalupe. In our Danza we get together once a month at
one of our members homes to do a rosary in which we also have a beautiful
image of La Virgen de Guadalupe that travels from home to home for a
whole month at a time.
