Stuck By Jack - Kindergarten One sunny day there was a spider. Stuck By Ty – Year 1 One day there was a web in the trees. A boy was running through the trees in Herbie Goes around the World the forest. He ran into the web and got stuck. The spider came out of the tree. By Colt - Year 5 The boy stopped and looked at the spider. He got away and ran. Then the spider was alone and started to cry.
Herbie Goes around the World By Colt - Year 5 Herbie was driving along on a bridge but he fell off. Luckily Herbie could float, he was like a boat sailing the world. Herbie went past nearly every continent but just then he started sinking. He beeped his horn so loud that a kid at shore noticed him. The kid yelled, “Somebody help that car.” The kid ran to his dad who owned a tow truck. His dad fished Herbie out of the sea. He was pretty rusty. The kid’s dad said, “Are you sure you want this one?” The kid said, “Yep I think he's going to do BIG things.” Herbie was so happy that they fixed him and when he was about to drive away the kid jumped in. Herbie drove off with him. The kid was having so much fun. Suddenly a drawbridge was rising, this was going to be Herbies biggest jump ever. He went zooming over the bridge. Luckily, he landed safely. Little did Herbie know two robbers stole two million dollars and were on the run. As he was driving around he saw people running in the distance. Herbie got there so fast he was like lightning. Herbie caught up with the robbers and stopped them. The police arrested them and the police said to the kid “Thank you for catching these robbers, you will get a big reward.” To the polices surprise the kid said, “Don't thank me, thank Herbie.” The police said to Herbie, “uhm well, thank you Herbie, but I think a car wouldn't have any clue what to do with one million dollars.” “We could let you be car of the day?” Herbie smiled and beeped his horn. The kid said, “I think he would like that alot.” THE END Why is Waterfall PS the BEST place to be? ❖ Waterfall PS is the best place to be because we get to write and learn to read. Waterfall PS BASC Week 9 Wrap Up Despite the rainy cold weather, we had a great week here at Waterfall Before and After School Care. The creative minds of the children kept us busy as we were making Origami animals with our educator Georgia. Children made paper hoping frogs and later they engaged in a race challenge. We also continued making our “Harmony day” poster which we started last week, and all our children participated in finishing it. Through this activity we engaged in discussions about the importance of celebrating cultural diversity and best ways of how we can promote respect for cultural and religious diversity at our centre and throughout Australia. Lastly, let us not forget our professional sketching classes called ‘Sketching with Fiona’ where the children get an opportunity to learn more about sketching techniques and styles with the help of our lovely educator Fiona. Through this activity they have stretch their capabilities in drawing and exercised creativity. We will continue with the Sketching with Fiona classes throughout the next term as well. Happy Easter everyone, hopefully we will see you soon at our Vacation Care! Adam
2021 PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE Now is the time to get involved in the 2021 challenge! The Challenge runs from 1 March to 20 August 2021. Ongoing reading is encouraged. Books read from 1 September 2020 can count towards the 2021 Challenge. Students can log on from Monday 1 March 2021 using their DET username and password. On their first log on for 2021, students record their previous school, if applicable. Students must complete their online Student Reading Records by Friday 20 August (11.59pm) 2021. Students must complete a set amount of reading to meet the Challenge. See table below: Books on the Premier’s Reading Challenge list are available on the PRC website. There is also a copy of each PRC list (K-2, 3-4 and 5-6) kept in the School Library for parents’ reference. All rules and instructions are available on the 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge website at http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/premiersreadingchallenge To experience a book a child can listen to the book, participate in a shared reading of the book or read part or all of the book independently. All Student Reading Records are submitted online. Students and/or parents must enter their books as they read them or when all books are read as follows: 1. Students log into the student Portal using their OWN username and internet password. There is no special password or log in required—just their own DET one. 2. Students select Premier’s Reading Challenge from the portal page. 3. Everything the students need including booklists are on that site 4. Parents can access the PRC website by typing “Premier’s Reading Challenge” into a Google search, but you will need to log on with your child’s DET username and internet password. Passwords are self-managed by the students. Your child (except Kindergarten students) should know their internet password. I don’t have a record of passwords. Mrs Bremner can reset student passwords if necessary and I can too if needed. Kindergarten students will be issued with a username and password later in the year. Reading can be completed and a paper record kept until Kindergarten get their passwords. Once the passwords are issued, books can then be logged on the challenge site. An electronic Student Reading Record is completed by either entering the PRC ID number of each book or clicking on titles from a drop-down PRC list. Many choice books can also be selected from a drop-down list. The easiest and most reliable way to enter PRC books is by their ID number. It is a condition of entry that all students entering and successfully completing the Premier's Reading Challenge will receive an official PRC certificate and their names will appear on the PRC Honour Roll. To successfully complete the Challenge the student must have an online reading record entered by 20 August (11.59pm) 2021. Only the student’s name will appear in the Honour Roll with no other identifying factors. Students who do not wish to receive a certificate or be on the Honour Roll should not register for the Challenge. These students may do the Challenge unofficially, they may use the PRC booklists and can seek recognition in their local school community but they cannot enter an official record. Please note: all online submissions are to be completed by the parent/student and entries must be completed by the closing date. Students, whose online entries are received by the closing date of 20 August 2021 (11.59pm), will have their certificates presented in Term 4. Only one certificate per year will be issued to each student regardless of the number of books read. Students who complete the Challenge for four years receive a gold certificate and those who complete the Challenge for seven consecutive years receive a platinum certificate. If you have not submitted your entry and clicked complete by the closing date, the school will not be able to submit any late entries. Over the past few years our participation in this event has grown! I hope to see many students get involved in the Premier’s Reading Challenge again this year. Reading is succeeding!!
