                                                      hall. Sir William Cowper’s son became the first Lord High
                                                      Chancellor of Great Britain in the 18th Century. Sir William
                                                      rebuilt the south wing in the 17th Century and added the great

                                                      remained a possession of the Earls Cowper. It is also alleged that
                                                      the man-made lake was constructed for Edward, the Black
