SIDNEY | MONTANA Situated on the Yellowstone River, Sidney is the center of trade for the area. Oil and agriculture are the main industries, and crops include grains, sugar beets, corn, beans and hay. Crane, Fairview, Lambert, Savage and Sidney are the cities and towns located within Richland County. Cradled in the outstretched arms of the mighty Missouri to the north and the free flowing Yellowstone to the southeast, Richland County is the only county in Montana with two major rivers flowing through it. Richland County was established as a county seat in 1914. The County encompasses 2,103 square miles (of which 18.9 square miles is inland water and 2084 square miles of it is land) tucked neatly in the heart of the fertile Lower Yellowstone Valley. The County is also just a few miles from the Confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers. The county ranks at or near the top of all Montana counties in a number of agricultural and other production areas, including number one in the production of sugar beets and safflower. The county ranks second in oil production in the state, and its livestock center is thirteenth in number of animals handled in the course of a year. The barley industry continues to grow in Richland County and is currently ranked eighth in the state.
