Riverside Parks and Rec Summer Camp Overview

Riverside Parks and Rec Summer Camp Programs we are offering this 2022 summer season to be able to
provide your child(ren) with the safest program we can create. Each week your child will have new
adventures and will be provided with safety, fun, exploration, new games and crafts, and social
development. Our camps are outside based camps each provide a space for indoor activity and for
inclement weather, but we will host most of our activities outside. Participants may be required to provide
proof of vaccination, maybe asked to wear and mask and social distance; all policies are subject to change
based on the latest state and county regulations.

Within our program, safety is our first priority. We will provide social interaction from a distance, skill
development, and education through recreational means. This program will take place outdoors as
frequently as possible.

*Adventure Camp, Teen Camp, Mini Adventurers and Afternoon Play Camp although it follows the same
County and state guidelines there are a few difference from one another in themes, times, activities and ect.
Please read carefully as times, and days may vary.

*Please be advised this program may change at any time due to safety guidelines.

Staff

Each site will have staff members that will undergo an orientation of training focusing on providing the most
well rounded opportunity for your camper. Our training will include recreational games, communication,
planning, safety, teamwork and respectful practices for an employee. All staff will be first aid and CPR
certified. All staff will also be trained in practices related to increased sanitation and supervision from a safe
distance. This program will be supervised by a head counselor and the Recreation Supervisor, with the
support of all full time staff at the Parks & Recreation Department. We follow 1:10 ratio for Adventure
Camp and Teen Camp, whereas our ratios for Mini Adventurers and Afternoon Play Camp are 1:8.

Getting to Know your Counselors

Please, please, please get to know your child’s/children’s camp counselors by name, as well as their group. This
information will assist you in giving us any necessary information as well as to picking up/dropping off any
important items to your child. It only takes a few minutes to do so and it makes everyone’s summer flow
smoothly.

Communication

Each Friday prior to the start of a new week of camp families will receive a newsletter that goes over the
upcoming week’s events, theme days, and field trips. They will also receive location information that goes over
the drop off, pick up and other information related to the location your child will be at.

When a camper will not be attending the camp day and is scheduled to be there please let your counselors
know the day before or by calling the site phones. Any time you have changes in your camper’s schedule like
early pickups or late drops off please inform your counselors so that they can prepare for their day. Each site

                                                          3
has a site phone so you can coordinate drop off if it is after the designated start time, even when groups are
not at the site. Please know that you cannot pick up or drop off at field trip locations, including RB Pool.

Events and Activities

Each day is a new adventure, the counselors have planned an exciting summer for your camper. Our camp has
activities including but not limited to games, sports, swimming, field trips, arts and crafts, team building, camp-
wide activities, nature, themes days, events and tournaments.

We will send home reminders for Events & Theme Days. We would really like to see 200% participation from the
children on these days. So please remember that the excitement starts at home! Please follow the Camp
Calendar which is available on our website- www.riverside.il.us./parksandrecreation. There will be a separate
camp calendar for each camp.

Each camp has a specific theme day where we will do more activities around that theme, whereas other days we
will incorporate them. The themes are laid out in the calendars and counselors will remind parents at pick up of
upcoming events and themes!

 Be involved and get your child involved! 

You may be contacted as a courtesy if special items are left at home on important days.

Lunch and Snack

Please send your child with a lunch each day. Camp may be a nut free, please respect this policy if it must be
instituted. This policy is instituted when we have a camper with a nut allergy enrolled for that week. When nut
free is instituted it will be stated in the newsletter and we ask that you send a nut free lunch. If a child brings a
lunch that included nuts they will be asked to bring that portion back home. Since we will be running around
all day, please provide a snack for morning and afternoon as well. Make sure campers bring a water bottle each
day. Absolutely no caffeinated drinks will be allowed at camp. This includes soda pop, energy drinks, coffee,
etc. They will be discarded immediately.

Special Snack or Treat

From time to time camp may have a special treat or snack that either goes with the theme or as a reward. We
typically use popsicles as a special snack but sometimes we may have popcorn or a hot dog lunch. These will be
noted on the calendar. If a treat is earned counselors will communicate that to parents and if there is ample
time the special snack will be listed in the newsletter.

If there are allergies or dietary restrictions please feel free to provide a special snack if the provided snack falls
in those restrictions.

                                                           4
Water Days

Camps’ participants will have a water day once a week unless notified otherwise. All campers must have
appropriately fitting, lined swimwear. Campers will not be allowed to swim in plain clothes without a swimsuit
underneath. If campers want to wear a swim shirt over their suit, that is acceptable. Water day will consists of
pools, sprinklers and water blaster activities. All campers should bring a bathing suit, towel, water shoes (crocs,
sandal with a strap) and we recommend an extra mask in case one gets wet. Masks will be worn when campers
are not swimming/ in the water. Campers should wear their swim suit to camp under their clothes and change
after the water activities are done.

Summer Heat

Due to our typical forecast for a HOT summer we truly encourage the following:

 Dress your camper in light color clothing, mainly shorts and T-shirts that are suitable for the camp
             setting.
 If the weather is very hot, rainy, or cold, we may watch a film. The rating will be G or PG.
            Most of the camp will be held outside, unless the weather does not permit outside play/activities;
             therefore, we require the following:
                  - Each camper must have a water bottle with them at all times. Please only fill with
                      noncarbonated beverages.
                  - All campers should have sunscreen with them daily.
                  - Campers that require assistance with applying their sunscreen must use spray-on sunscreen.
Counselors are only allowed to assist with spray-on sunscreen.
                  - In case of extreme heat warnings, campers will have equal opportunities of staying cool
inside air-conditioning, as well as playing outside.
 All campers are required to wear full gym shoes. No flip flops, crocs or heely’s are allowed. Flip-
flops/sandals can be brought in backpacks to waterparks or on water days, but may only be worn
             during the water activities.

Pick Up and Drop off Procedure

    Drop off Procedures:
       1. At drop off please refer to your location information guide as each site had a different procedure.

program following the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th offense. There will be no refunds for missed day(s) due to the
disciplinary infractions. I acknowledge that I received adequate information and understand the

                                                    9
disciplinary action to be taken by the Riverside Parks & Recreation Department.

It is very important that all participants know what is expected of them and how they will conduct
themselves. Participants may experience many difficult situations or participate in a wide variety of
activities that may be somewhat stressful, such as being cold, hot, wet, tired, or even irritated with
themselves or other group members. These stresses will be good to experience since they resemble real
life situations in which we all must learn to successfully cope. All participants will be required to share in
camp responsibilities. These include cleaning up, taking care of themselves and others, and cooperating
with leaders to help the group attain their goals for their activities. Participants must also respect the rules
and procedures set by the Riverside Parks & Recreation Department for the protection of the individual,
group, and the environment.

Individuals who violate the established rules will be disciplined or sent home dependent upon severity. The
program leaders will evaluate violations on an individual basis.

Camp Registration and Payment Policies
We are so happy to have your child in program. In an effort to serve all of our summer families with
efficiency, we ask that you adhere to the payment guidelines detailed below. All questions/concerns may
be directed to the Riverside Parks and Recreation Department at (708) 442-7025

    1. Please be sure to adhere to all payment deadline dates in conjunction with the aligned week of
       registration. (WK1 and WK2 5/16, WK 3 and WK4 5/31, WK5 and WK 6 6/15, WK7 and WK 8 6/30,
WK 9 and WK 10 7/15). If payment is not received by the deadline, the child(ren) will be removed
from the week and no deposits will be refunded. Spots are not guaranteed if you do not pay by the
deadline. Please contact the Parks and Recreation office if you need to make arrangements due to
emergency/unexpected situations. Please note that the payment deadline is one week prior to the
       session deadline.
    2. There will be NO makeup days, NO prorating and NO alternate attendance options. Weekly camp
registration closes on Wednesday of the week prior at 12 PM.
    3. Registration requires a $15 DEPOSIT per week to secure the participant’s spot. The $15 deposit will
be applied towards each week’s balance. There will be no penalties for any camp withdrawals
made before May 9, 2022. Any withdrawals made on or after May 9, 2022, will result in the forfeit
of the deposit. After your full payment is made on the deadline, you may not receive a refund for
the dates your payment covers. For example, your payment on May 16th covers Week 1 (June 6-10)
and Week 2 (June13-17) of camp, if you choose to withdraw your child after the 16st, you will not
receive a refund for weeks 1 and 2. If you withdraw before the payment deadline, but after May
9th, you will receive your payment if made less the deposit.
    4. If your child needs to be withdrawn from a program, please notify the Riverside Parks & Recreation
Department before the payment deadline by emailing (riversidepr@riverside.il.us) or by calling
       (708) 442-7025. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please follow up by phone. Failing to do
so will result in the loss of the week fees. We appreciate your cooperation as other children may
want to fill open camp spots.
    5. In the event of a returned check, the responsible party will be charged a $35 NSF FEE per Village
Code. After one incident, checks will no longer be accepted. Future payment may be made with
cash, cashier’s check or credit cards.

Swimming

Adventure Day Camp and Teen Camp participants will also partake in water-based field trips. Any child
marked as a “non-swimmer” on their Emergency Form (attached to packet) will not be allowed to go on
waterslides or in the lazy river (when attending our field trip water park days). All non-swimmers will be
required to stay in the shallow end. Life vests are not provided on swim days, you may bring one from
home. However, if they are marked as a “swimmer” on the emergency form, they will be allowed in the
deep end and on all water accessories. Swimmers will be able to test to go in the deep end after they
pass a swim test at each swimming site. Please note that we do not accept “maybe’s” or “sort-of’s” on
our emergency form, so please review and select this information carefully.

RB Swimming Pool
With the current IDPH guidelines we are able to use the RBHS swimming pool. We may attend the RBHS
swimming pool depending on RBHS availability.

Campers will be driven to the pool in the Riverside Parks and Rec Van and have the opportunity to swim
on Tuesdays. When entering the building campers will be wearing masks until they are spaced 6 feet
apart and in the water. They will be able to bring a life jacket but are responsible for it and must be able
to carry the item from their site to the pool. All campers should bring a bathing suit, towel and we
recommend an extra mask in case one gets wet. Masks will be worn when campers are not swimming.
Campers will change before going to the pool and change after returning from the pool.

Field Trips

Weekly, we will be doing on-site/off-site Field Trips as a camp-wide activity. The calendar that is sent at the
beginning of the week will indicate that week’s field trip. The following are the rules and policies that will apply
on field trip days:

 Bring appropriate clothing for the particular trip.
 All campers must wear their designated camp T-shirt.
 Campers who do not have a Camp T-shirt on a field trip day will automatically be provided an
additional camp T-shirt (in sizes available) for a fee of $10.00 to be billed to the parent/guardian,
and payment remitted within a business day.
 When swimming, campers must wear a lined swimsuit.
 If a camper wants to wear a T-shirt while swimming, it must be a standard swim shirt. No casual
              clothing will be allowed.
 Campers are to bring money to camp only when recommended or allowed. Campers are responsible
for all money that is brought to camp. Counselors will not be responsible for any camper belongings
              or money.
 Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!! (unless indoors of course)  Counselors may only assist campers
              who have spray-on sunscreen.
 If a camper is to arrive after camp departs for trip, the camper will not be allowed to be dropped off
at the field trip location; therefore, he/she cannot attend camp that day. Also, if camper needs to
be picked up within the duration of the field trip, camper will be unable to attend field trip or camp
              for that day.

                                                          13
 IMPORTANT: In the event that the field trip is cancelled due to bad weather or other circumstances,
camp will be held at the originally designated camp location. Field trip will be rescheduled or altered
        in this event.
