Dear SPASH Families:
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family healthy and doing well. This year has challenged all of us
and I am proud of how our students and staff have worked through the first semester.
It feels good to know that we are now one full week into the second semester and welcomed over 200
students back into the building from first semester flexible E-learning. Please know that we eagerly look
forward to being able to have all of our students at school every day again and in the meantime will con-
tinue to work hard to ensure that everyone in our building properly wears a mask, frequently sanitizes their
hands, and practices social distancing as much as possible.
We will begin student registration and course selection for the 2021-2022 school year this week. Students
will receive all materials in their Advisory and any OLC students will receive the materials in the mail.
Students will then have two weeks to identify their choices for next year and will then submit their
registration to their counselors the week of February 15-19. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your
school counselor with any questions or for assistance with this process.
You can also access Registration Information and Materials at this link on our Counseling office webpage.

All juniors in Wisconsin will be taking the ACT+ Writing on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. On that day all
SPASH juniors will complete the ACT at SPASH and all sophomores and seniors will have an e-learning
day. All students and families will receive more specific information about our schedule during the ACT
later in February as we get closer to the day of the test and field trip.
Parents of seniors: Graduation will be here before you know it! SPASH Graduation 2021 will be on Sun-
day, May 30th. At this time we are still uncertain of the exact type and location of ceremony that we will
be able to have. However, please know that we are planning accordingly and will communicate details
and information with you as soon as we can responsibly do so. You will receive a special newsletter
around May 1 with all of the information that you will need to prepare for graduation. Please be reminded
that students must complete all graduation requirements by May 27, 2021 and have a cap and gown to par-
ticipate in the ceremony.
Again, thank you for your support and engagement in your student’s journey at SPASH. We look forward
to seeing you again soon.
Sincerely,
Jon

                             12th Annual Book Swap
                                    April 5th - 9th

What exactly is a book swap? What do I have to do to participate in it?
Where will it be held? Does it cost money?

1. Go through your home collection of slightly used hardcover or paperback books you want to
donate to the book swap. Please ask your family’s permission before you bring a book that
   may be wanted at home.
2. Beginning March 29, bring these books to school and deposit them in your English teacher’s
book swap box or in the library.
3. Receive a “book buck” from your teacher or librarian for each paperback or 2 bucks for
each hardcover book that you donate.
4. Keep your ticket(s) you have received for donating book(s). Attend the book swap on
April 5th - 9th in the SPASH Library. English classes may sign up with the librarian for
times to bring their class to the book swap.
5. Choose a new book to read. Cash in your tickets.
6. Teachers will be given extra book bucks to hand out to students as “rewards” to spend at
   the book swap.
7. Books may also be brought in the day of the book swap.

Hardcover books = 2 bucks Paperback books = 1 buck

There is no cost other than donating a book that you have finished reading and no longer care
to own. Books must be age appropriate for 9th grade and up. We will not accept: children’s
books, textbooks, magazines, or books with extreme violence or nudity. Books must be in good
to slightly used condition. The librarian has final discretion in determining the acceptability
of a book. If you have any questions please call Beth Molski at 715-345-5406 or
email bemolski@pointschools.net.

Youth Apprenticeship (YA) opportunities are available to SPASH juniors and seniors. YA is a Wisconsin
Department of Workforce Development program that provides work based learning experience at a job site
combined with classroom instruction of the student’s occupational interest. Every YA earns a paycheck,
school credit and real world experience. Youth Apprenticeship is available in several career areas including:
Agriculture, Construction, Finance, Health Science, Hospitality, Information Technology, Manufacturing,
Engineering, and Transportation.

The ideal time for a student to apply is sophomore year between now and the end of the school year. There
will be an informational, virtual presentation for sophomores and parents that want to learn more about this
state recognized school-to-work program. Watch your email for details coming soon.

Stop into the Career Center for more information. Brigitta Altmann-Austin, Assistant Principal, is also the
Career and Technical Education and Youth Apprenticeship coordinator.

1) Placement Tests for the UW System
Are you planning on attending a UW System school in the fall? Register online for your placement tests at ex-
ams.wisc.edu/placement/regionaltesting/information.php. UWSP offers the test. Even if you are going to a differ-
ent school, you can typically still take your test at UWSP. Please go to the website for more information. Space is
   limited! First come, first served.
2) Making Your Last Semester Count—Final Transcripts
All universities and most technical colleges require that your final transcripts be sent. Your final semester grades are
important to ensure a successful transition into college and to be sure your admission acceptance is not taken away.
If your grades fall drastically, you are in jeopardy of not being able to attend your college.
3) AP Exam Dates
Ap Exams are May 3 through May 14. Your AP teachers will have more information for you in regards to the test-
ing schedule. For more information, you can also go to www.apcentral.collegeboard.org.
4) ACT Plus Writing
All juniors will be taking the ACT Plus Writing on March 9 at SPASH (no cost to students). You may also take the
ACT on April 17, June 12 or July 17. Which are Saturday test dates. If you choose to take it a second time, register
at www.act.org. Fee waivers are available for students who are eligible for free/reduced lunch.
