Saint George Parish Community Under the Guidance of the Holy Spirit 22 E. Cooke Avenue, Glenolden, PA 19036 - 610-237-1633 - www.stgeorgeparish.org The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ June 6 ,2021 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover? He sent two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a jar of water. Follow him. Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The teacher says, “Where is My guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready. Make the prepa- rations for us there.” The disciples then went off, entered the city, and found it just as He had told them’ and they prepared the Passover. While they were eating, He took bread, said the bless- ing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.” Then He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, “This is My blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” Then, after sing- ing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. ~Mark 14: 12-16, 22-26 Join Us this Sunday for Adoration, Reflection & Benediction Please join us immediately following the 10:30 AM Mass this Sunday for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a short Reflection and Benediction as we celebrate The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi. Parishand Parish Gospel Reflection Special Announcement - Repairs Needed at Holy Spirit School The school building, located on the Holy Spirit property in Sharon Hill, is leased by St. George Parish to the Delaware County Inter- mediate Unit (DCIU) for purposes of education. We have been informed that there is a major structural issue with that school build- ing, which will require remediation for safety reasons. In order to protect the integrity of the building, extensive repairs are urgently needed. We are awaiting bids, and estimates project the cost to be in the area of $100,000. To cover these expenses, rather that take out a loan, which would incur debt with interest, we intend to liquidate the remaining funds in the Holy Spirit Heritage of Faith Trust Fund. More details will be published as soon as they become available to us. ~Father Oswald, Pastor This beautiful Sequence, which follows below, Laud, O Zion, or Blood is poured and flesh is broken, the shorter form beginning with the verse, Lo! A Message from Bishop McIntyre The following message was received from Bishop MacIntyre in his letter to the Confirmation Class of St. George Parish on May 27, 2021. Dear Boys and Girls, Thank you for the warm welcome that I received at Saint George Church on Sunday, May 23, 2021, when I celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with you. Thank you for the beautiful Spiritual Bouquet and for all your hard work in preparing for the Sacrament. I am grateful for your prayers and you can be sure that I will remember you and your fami- lies in mine May God bless and the Spirit guide you always. Sincerely in Christ, Most Reverend John J. McIntyre, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia The Feast of Corpus Christi The full name of this feast is Corpus et San- guis Christi or The Body and Blood of Christ. The feast of the Blessed Sacrament was established in 1246 by Bishop Robert de Thorte of Liege at the suggestion of St. Juli- ana of Mont Carvillon. It was extended to the universal Church by Pope Urban in 1264. The office composed by St. Thomas Aquinas and customary procession was approved by Popes Mar- tin V and Eugene IV. In the year 1263, near the town of Orvieto, Italy, a priest doubted the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. When next he celebrated Mass, at the moment of consecration, as the host was elevated, it began to bleed. Many witnessed this. The priest wrapped the bleeding Host in corporals and brought the Host and corporals to the Bishop at Orvieto. The Bishop consulted with Pope Urban IV, formerly Archdeacon Jacques Panteleon. The miracle was affirmed, and the Host and corporals remain in Or- vieto for veneration to this day. In 1264 Pope Urban IV issued a papal bull establishing the feast of Corpus Christi for the univer- sal Church. He commissioned St. Thomas Aquinas to compose the Office of the Mass and Liturgy of the Hours for the new feast. In celebration of Corpus Christi, St. George Church will hold Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament immediately following the 10:30 AM Mass this weekend, followed by a short Reflection and Benediction. All are encouraged and welcome to join us. 112George - Page 7
