YEAR 11 BUSINESS STUDIES (11BST)
Pre-requisite:           None.

Course Content:          Business Studies is about how individuals and groups of people organise, plan, and create and
                         develop goods and services to satisfy customers.
                              Features of a small business such as how a business is formed and structured and
                               manages its people and operates on an ongoing basis.
                              Crucial functions within a business such as marketing and human resources.
                              Opportunity to create your own business so you can put all that you have learned into
                               action. You will learn business in a practical, hands-on way and develop some
                               entrepreneurial skills.

Course Costs:            Depending on the nature of your business proposal, you may choose to invest some start-up
                         capital.

YEAR 12 BUSINESS STUDIES (12BST)
Pre-requisite:           Success in Level 1 Business Studies or another Social Science subject, or with the HOD’s
                         approval.

Course Content:          Business Studies is the study of how individuals and groups of people organise, plan, and create
                         and develop goods and services to satisfy customers.
                              Features of a large business such as how a business is formed, structured, manages its
                               people and operates on an ongoing basis.
                              Crucial functions within a business such as market research and the use of motivational
                               theories.

      Students will be part of the Young Enterprise Scheme which will allow them to create a
                                business and put them in touch with mentors outside of the school. Young Enterprise
                                organise activities throughout the year to allow our Business students to meet other
                                budding entrepreneurs at other schools, receive specific training related to their role in
                                their business as well as providing several forums to sell their products outside the
                                school.

Pre-requisite:           Success in Level 2 Business Studies, English, or any other Social Science, or with the HOD’s
                         approval.

Course Content:          This course is designed to give students a good understanding of two Year 13 Commerce
                         subjects – Business Studies and Economics. This is a great grounding for anyone interested in
                         Business or intending to study Business at university.
                              How international businesses develop their marketing plans and stay innovative in a
                                 rapidly changing world
                              Core microeconomic concepts which explain consumer and producer behaviour
                              How markets are not always right and what a government can do to overcome these
                                 issues

Pre-requisite:          Success in Year 10 Drama, or with the HOD’s permission. It is desirable that students have
                        prior drama or performance experience.

Course Content:         Students will:
                             Study a significant play and research its importance.
                             Work with a script to explore voice, body, movement, and space in performance.
                             Use elements and conventions to devise and perform a drama based on a theme.
                             Select and use features of a theatre form in a performance.
                             Demonstrate understanding of the use of drama aspects within live performance in an
                               exam.

Course Costs:           $50 (max) for entry to live theatre performances and workshops.

                             Devise and perform a documentary drama based on a NZ historical event.
                             Discuss drama elements, technologies, techniques, and conventions within a live
                               performance.
                             Perform in a full class production.

Course Costs:           $50 (max) for entry to live theatre performances and workshops during the year.

Pre-requisite:           Success in Year 10 French, or with approval from the Teacher in Charge of French.

Course Content:          This course covers the four main language skills of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
                         The course brings together and extends the language and culture experienced in Years 9 &
                         10. There is a shift in language use from survival skills to social competence and interaction
                         on matters of daily importance such as travel, family, interests, and friendships. Students will
                         be able to communicate information, ideas, and opinions on practical matters, and will be
                         able to successfully use the past, present, and future tenses.

Pre-requisite:           Success in Year 10 Japanese, or with the approval of the Teacher in Charge of Japanese.

Course Content:          Year 11 Japanese covers the four-main language skill of Reading, Writing, Speaking and
                         Listening. Work from previous years is consolidated and extended and there is a shift in
                         focus from survival skills to social competence. Students can understand and produce more
                         complex language. They can communicate beyond the immediate context, for example,
                         about past and future events. Students can also understand and produce a variety of text
                         types.

Course Costs:            $40: $20 for a Workbook, and $20 for online access to Education Perfect.

Course Content:          The course aims to deliver knowledge of the language and cultural experiences and
                         practices. The course explores environmental practices, health, appropriate karakia,
                         traditional stories, whakairo design and weaving.

Course Costs:            For non-international students: Nil.
                         For International students: $40 for a full year or $20 for half a year.

Course Content:        This course kicks off with a close reading of film, followed by the planning, designing, and then
                       filming of a short horror film. We then look at representation in the form of stereotypes,
                       finishing off the year preparing for our exam with a super-hero genre study.

Course Content:        Media Studies is a 21st century approach to education. It provides a framework to access,
                       analyse, evaluate, and create messages in a variety of forms – from print to video to the
                       Internet. The Subject helps build an understanding of the role of media in society as well as
                       essential skills of inquiry and self-expression necessary for citizens of a democracy.
                       The following aspects of media are studied:
