We are looking for a Senior Education Advisor Primary Education who will operate from our headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. Do you want to take on this challenge? Then continue reading! Purpose of the function At VVOB head office, there are five senior education advisors, one per sub-sector we work in: early childhood education, primary education, secondary education and technical and vocational education and training and one senior education advisor working on a specific global project. As our senior education advisor primary education, you support VVOB’s country teams on our projects in primary education. You also contribute to formulating and submitting new high quality projects. You work closely together with our other senior education advisors and the country teams you support, as well as with our M&E advisor, our research lead, our grants coordinators and our partnerships manager. You report to the global director of programmes. On a regular basis, you travel to countries for limited periods of time. Job opportunity – August 2021 – Senior Education Advisor Primary Education
You will:
• You design and develop relevant and scalable projects in close collaboration with internal and external
stakeholders.
• You provide both short- and long-term strategic advice, information, and guidance to VVOB and
VVOB’s partners on primary education, in line with policy trends, new developments and the latest
research and thinking in education and international development.
• You guide the capacity development process according to the needs, particular situations, and phases of
the different projects related to primary education.
• You create and manage partnerships and strong networks with relevant partners, institutions and
organisations.
• You represent VVOB in relevant platforms and proactively look for synergies and complementarities.
• You contribute to internal and external knowledge development and learning, by systemizing lessons
learned and sharing pro-actively lessons learned between partners, colleagues and other VVOB country
teams.
If you’re our Senior Education Advisor, your workweek at the office will
include the following highlights:
You log in to Teams for a discussion with the country programmes manager of
the VVOB team in Cambodia. Together, you review the progress of a project in
Cambodia, identify challenges and lessons learnt and draft a planning for
submission of the project report to the donor before the deadline.
You have a meeting with the research lead to consolidate the provided feedback
on the research report that was submitted by our South African university
partners. You discuss opportunities to disseminate the findings more widely in
the coming months.
Off to the European Commission, where you will present at a lunch seminar on
remedial education. You receive good feedback and leave with a few interesting
new contacts.
You head back to the office for a meeting with the global director of
programmes to go over your agenda for your next visit to Zambia. In addition
to team meetings, where you will discuss the specifics of the new project
proposal, you are advised to meet with the potential partners to discuss task

Who are you?
Your expertise and experience
• A Master’s or PhD Degree in Education, Human Sciences, or related field; or
equivalent by experience;
• At least 7 years’ work experience in education, by preference in an international
context;
• At least 2 years’ work experience in international cooperation;
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of primary education; teacher & school leader
professional development; and capacity development of institutions;
• Experience with Project Cycle Management, monitoring and evaluation of education
programmes;
• Experience in formulating high quality concept notes and full proposals for a range
of donors/investors;
• Experience in presenting in international fora;
• Experience with working in a multicultural team;
• You are authorised to work in Belgium;
• Language: Strong command of English. Language skills in Dutch are a plus.
• Preferred: work experience in low- and/or middle-income countries.

What we’re offering:
