Sentence If you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. Psalm 95.7

Opening Hymn #468 (Common Praise - Canada)
To Abraham and Sarah
the call of God was clear:
“Go forth and I will show you
a country rich and fair.
You need not fear the journey,
for I have pledged my word
that you shall be my people
and I will be your God.”

From Abraham and Sarah
arose a pilgrim race,
dependent for their journey
on God’s abundant grace;
and in their heart was written
by God this saving word,
“That you shall be my people
and I will be your God.”

We of this generation
on whom God’s hand is laid
can journey to the future
secure and unafraid,
rejoicing in God’s goodness
and trusting in this word,
“That you shall be my people
and I will be your God.”
The Greeting
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
And also with you.

One thing I have asked of the Lord,
that I will seek after:
to live in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in God's temple.
Sisters and Brothers, God is good,
and in love and mercy greets us here.

Kyrie
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets
are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of
your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily
magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect
Almighty Father, whose Son was revealed in majesty before he suffered
death upon the cross; give us grace to perceive his glory, that we may be
strengthened to suffer with him and be changed into his likeness, from
glory to glory; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

                                 The Proclamation of the Word

invites us into a deeper engagement with the texts.

         Psalm 27
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom then shall I fear? : the
Lord is the strength of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid?

When the wicked came upon me to eat up my flesh : even mine
enemies and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

Though an host of men were laid against me, yet shall not my heart
be afraid : and though there rose up war against me, yet will I put my
         trust in him.

One thing have I desired of the Lord, which I will require : even that
I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold
the fair beauty of the Lord, and to visit his temple.

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his tabernacle : yea, in
the secret place of his dwelling shall he hide me, and set me up upon
         a rock of stone.

And now shall my head be lifted up : above mine enemies round
         about me.
Therefore will I offer in his dwelling an oblation with great gladness :
I will sing, and speak praises unto the Lord.

Hearken unto my voice, O Lord, when I cry unto thee : have mercy
          upon me and hear me.

My heart hath talked with thee: ‘Seek ye my face’ : ‘Thy face, Lord,
          will I seek.’

O hide not thou thy face from me : not cast thy servant away in
          displeasure.

Thou hast been my succour : leave me not, neither forsake me, O
          God of my salvation.

When my father and mother forsake me : the Lord taketh me up.

Teach me thy way, O Lord : and lead me in the right way, because of
          mine enemies.

Deliver me not over into the will of mine adversaries : for there are
false witnesses risen up against me, and such as speak wrong.

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord : in the land of the
          living.

O tarry thou the Lord’s leisure : be strong, and let thy heart take
courage, and wait upon the Lord.

         Homily

         The Apostles’ Creed
         I believe in God,
         the Father almighty,
         creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the
Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again
to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the
communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the
body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Intercessions

Confession and Absolution
Holy God, we confess that we do not trust You fully. We put our
hope in worldly gain and in human promises, and find ourselves
defeated and lost when things fall apart.

You have given us a love more fully than anything we could
experience in this world but we do not seek it, we do not hold on to
it, and we look to our own means of assurance and security.

Forgive us.

Call us back to You that we may put our trust in You and not be
afraid.
May we hear the words so clearly as the disciples did; may we rise
up, and not be afraid. In the name of Jesus, who loves us and offers
us forgiveness, we pray. Amen.

You are God’s Beloved; with you, God is well pleased.
You are renewed and restored.
You are forgiven and loved.
You are a new creation in Christ, everything old has passed away; see,
everything is becoming new.
Go and share the good news of God’s love.

The Peace
The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

                  The Celebration of the Eucharist

Hymn #179 v 1-5 & 6c (Common Praise - Canada)
Tree of Life and awesome mystery,
in your death we are reborn;
though you die in all of history,
still you rise with every morn,
still you rise with every morn.

Seed that dies to rise in glory,
may we see ourselves in you;
if we learn to live your story
we may die to rise anew,
we may die to rise anew.

We remember truth once spoken,
love passed on through act and word;
every person lost and broken
wears the body of our Lord,
wears the body of our Lord.

Gentle Jesus, mighty Spirit,
come inflame our hearts anew.
We may all your joy inherit
if we bear the cross with you,
if we bear the cross with you.

Christ, you lead and we shall follow,
stumbling though our steps may be;
one with you in joy and sorrow,
we the river, you the sea,
we the river, you the sea.

In our call to be a blessing,
may we be a blessing true;
may we live and die confessing
Christ as Lord of all we do,
Christ as Lord of all we do.

Prayer over the Gifts
God of wisdom, may the light of the eternal Word, our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ, guide us to your glory. We ask this in his name.
Amen.

The Great Thanksgiving Eucharistic Prayer F Church of England.

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give thanks and praise.

You are worthy of our thanks and praise, Lord God of truth, for by the
breath of your mouth you have spoken your word, and all things have
come into being. You fashioned us in your image and placed us in the
garden of your delight. Though we chose the path of rebellion you
would not abandon your own.

Again and again you drew us into your covenant of grace. You gave
your people the law and taught us by your prophets to look for your
reign of justice, mercy and peace. As we watch for the signs of your
kingdom on earth, we echo the song of the angels in heaven, evermore
praising you and singing:

Sanctus and Benedictus I. Koizumi (adapted S.B)
Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Lord God, you are the most holy one, enthroned in splendour and
light, yet in the coming of your Son Jesus Christ you reveal the power of
your love made perfect in our human weakness.

Embracing our humanity, Jesus showed us the way of salvation; loving
us to the end, he gave himself to death for us; dying for his own, he set
us free from the bonds of sin, that we might rise and reign with him in
glory.
On the night he gave up himself for us all he took bread and gave you
thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is
my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he
gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the
new covenant which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of
sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

Therefore we proclaim the death that he suffered on the cross, we
celebrate his resurrection, his bursting from the tomb, we rejoice that
he reigns at your right hand on high and we long for his coming in
glory.

As we recall the one, perfect sacrifice of our redemption, Father, by
your Holy Spirit let these gifts of your creation be to us the body and
blood of our Lord Jesus Christ; form us into the likeness of Christ and
make us a perfect offering in your sight.

Look with favour on your people and in your mercy hear the cry of our
hearts. Bless the earth, heal the sick, let the oppressed go free and fill
your Church with power from on high.

Gather your people from the ends of the earth to feast with [ N and] all
your saints at the table in your kingdom, where the new creation is
brought to perfection in Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and with
whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and
glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer
And now, as Christ has taught us, we pray,
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against
us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread
Most merciful Lord,
your love compels us to come in. Our hands were unclean, our hearts
were unprepared; we were not fit even to eat the crumbs from under
your table. But you, Lord, are the God of our salvation, and share your
bread with sinners. So cleanse and feed us with the precious body and
blood of your Son, that he may live in us and we in him; and that we,
with the whole company of Christ, may sit and eat in your kingdom.
Amen.

Communion Hymn #511 (Common Praise - Canada)
Lord Jesus, think on me
and purge away my sin:
from earthborn passions set me free
and make me pure within.

Lord Jesus, think on me,
with many a care oppressed;
let me thy loving servant be
and taste thy promised rest.

Lord Jesus, think on me,
nor let me go astray;
through darkness and perplexity
point thou the heavenly way.

Lord Jesus, think on me,
that, when the flood is past,
I may the eternal brightness see
and share thy joy at last.

Lord Jesus, think on me,
that I may sing above
to Father, Holy Ghost, and thee
the songs of praise and love.

Prayer after Communion
Creator of heaven and earth, we thank you for these holy mysteries,
which bring us now a share in the life to come, through Jesus Christ our
Lord.
Amen.

Almighty God, giver of all good things, we thank you for feeding us
with the spiritual food of the precious body and blood of our Saviour,
Jesus Christ. We thank you for your love and care in assuring us of
your gift of blessed life and uniting us with the company of all faithful
people.

Therefore, ever-living God, keep us steadfast in your holy fellowship.
And now we offer ourselves, all that we have and are, to serve you
faithfully in the world, through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, to whom
with you and the Holy Spirit be all honour and glory, now and for ever.
Amen.

Concluding Hymn #505 (Common Praise - Canada)
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
naught be all else to me, save that thou art—
thou my best thought, by day or by night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true Word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
thou my great Father; thine own may I be,
thou in me dwelling, and I one with thee.

Riches I heed not, nor the world’s empty praise;
thou mine inheritance, now and always:
thou and thou only, first in my heart,
high King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

High King of heaven, when victory is won,
may I reach heaven’s joys, bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

The Blessing
Christ give you grace to grow in holiness, to deny yourselves, take up
your cross, and follow him; and the blessing of God almighty, the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with
you always.
Amen.

Acclamation
To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul;
O my God, in you I trust.
You are the God of my salvation;
To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
In you I hope all the day long.
O my God, in you I trust.
Remember, Lord, your compassion and love, for they are from
everlasting.
To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; O my God, in you I trust.

The Dismissal
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
Thank be to God.

Organ Postlude Offertoire sur les Grands Jeux (Mass for the Parishes)
                  François Couperin (1668-1733)

Scott Bradford writes, “Appointed Organist of St. Gervais, Paris at age
11, this Offertoire is Couperin’s stunning masterpiece of the French
Baroque. Akin to the French overture — a style ‘with attitude’ featuring
double dotted rhythms, fluent melodic lines and daring chromaticisms —
this piece ends with a gigue-like fugue.
Note the intense timbre of the stops comprising the Grand Jeux
(trumpets, cornets, cromornes) of this unique recipe of 18th C. French
organ style.”
