THE COMPANY the prom MUSIC the prom FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, MICHAEL BRINDISI W SETTING & MUSICAL NUMBERS hen I first saw this play a couple of years ago, I was most taken with how it reminded me of the musicals I grew up on. It was a book driven, very funny, original score... A Musical Comedy. It was so refreshing. Then on top of all that, this is a musical SETTING: New York City and Edgewater, Indiana about something that’s relevant today. A good friend of mine asked me why I picked this show. I said, “Because it’s important and I care about the future.” The meaning for me is summed up in the second act, in the script on page 92, when Trent and the kids discuss ACT I what there is in life that we don’t control. I guess you would call it fate. There are dots in our “Changing Lives” . . . . . . . . . . DEE DEE ALLEN, BARRY GLICKMAN, ENSEMBLE lives that are connected by something in the cosmos. Some call it God. As a Christian and a spiritual person, it really moved me. I was drawn to a scene in the Netflix movie, by a grove “Changing Lives” (Reprise) . . . . . . . . . . . . . DEE DEE ALLEN, BARRY GLICKMAN, of cherry blossoms that Emma and Alyssa ran through. Perhaps I was the only person in the ANGIE DICKINSON, TRENT OLIVER world who knew nothing about the significance of cherry blossoms, so I Googled it. Wow! “Just Breathe” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . EMMA NOLAN The cherry blossom is a Japanese tree that blooms once a year for a few short weeks and then the blooms die. In Japan this has come to represent how beautiful, yet short life is and how “It’s Not About Me” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . DEE DEE ALLEN, BARRY GLICKMAN, we should live it to its fullest. I had to have a nod to the cherry blossom in our play. The Prom ANGIE DICKINSON, TRENT OLIVER, ENSEMBLE to me is about love, acceptance, fate, embracing who you are and living your life to its fullest. “Dance with You”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
