Transfiguration
At Northlea United Church,
we encourage one another as we:
Love God ~ Connect with others
Nurture the spirit ~ Serve the worldWe want to make everyone feel welcome at Northlea! Our facilities are
accessible for those with mobility assists, such as wheelchairs and scooters.
We welcome pets and invite you to bring your coffee to service! If we can help
improve your experience by providing you with assisted hearing devices, a large print
hymn book or large print order of service, we have them – just ask one of our
Welcomers.
Infants, toddlers, and children are welcome as part of our worship in the sanctuary!
Following the first part of the service each Sunday, many of our children and youth go
with their leaders to “Cool Church.” Children who are visiting are invited to join in!
After the service, everyone reconnects in the Community Room over refreshments. We
encourage everyone to wear name tags, so if you don’t have one, and would like one,
please let one of our Welcomers know.

2Opening Prayer:
Our God, we gather here today on Transfiguration Sunday. We
waited through the days of Advent, for the arrival of Jesus. We
celebrated the light of his coming, throughout Epiphany. Three days
from now, we mark ourselves with ashes, as we enter the season of
Lent. But today, on this special Sunday, we pray that we might see,
Christ transfigured before us, and that we might be transformed by
your grace, preparing us to follow Jesus, through the days of Lent.
Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy
kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And
lead us away from temptation and deliver us from evil: for thine
is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and
ever. Amen.

Invitation to the Offering:
Friends, our offering is one of the most profound witnesses we are able to
make. The giving of our gifts - and our lives - speaks to our faithfulness.
Let our witness be so strong that it inspires others to faith.
Let us offer our gifts to God.

A Warm Welcome Back to Lee-Ann
As you all know by now, Lee-Ann will be returning
to her ministry at Northlea from medical leave
beginning the week of March 4th. This will be a
graduated return to work over a period of six
weeks. During this time, Lee-Ann will progressively
start, once again, to become part of the daily
activities and worship service life of Northlea. She
will first need to reconnect with what the staff members, Council members,
Ellen and others have been working on over the past nine months. This will
necessitate that Lee-Ann takes time to talk to people, study documents and
catch up on emails and other communications.
You may see and enjoy chatting with Lee-Ann when she is in the church, but
we are being careful how quickly she starts back doing worship services. We
are very grateful to Ellen who has agreed to remain on at Northlea until Good
Friday to assist with Lee-Ann’s graduated return. It is important to note that
Lee-Ann may not be available to attend all scheduled meetings and services
due to the recommended weekly hours of work agenda that she needs to
follow. Below you will see a list of the upcoming services and who will be
officiating:
• March 3 (Annual Meeting), March 5 (Service of Ashes), March 10 - Ellen
• March 17 – Lee-Ann – after the service, join us for cake and ice cream
to celebrate Lee-Ann’s first worship service following her return
• March 24 – Ellen
• March 31 – Lee-Ann
• April 7 – Ellen – after the service, join us to thank Ellen for her
leadership during Lee-Ann’s absence; Lucy Platt and Ellen will also lead
Love Jazz Vespers at 4:30 pm
• April 14 – Palm Sunday – Lee-Ann
• April 19 – Good Friday – Ellen – this is Ellen’s last service
• April 21 – Easter Sunday – Lee-Ann
5During the weeks of March 4th and March 11th, Ellen will be responsible for any
Pastoral Care concerns that arise. While Ellen will generally be working from
home, she can be reached by the phone number listed in the bulletin or
through the church office. From March 18 to April 19, you can contact Lee-Ann
through her email address or the church office for Pastoral Care and other
inquiries. Either Lee-Ann or Ellen will respond to all requests.
We are delighted that Lee-Ann is returning to Northlea and we pray for her
continued good health as she resumes her commitment to help us become a
source of welcome and support in the North Leaside community.

to help send more needy kids to day camps this summer.
Keys to Success – Thank you
Thank you to everyone who contributed so generously to the
appeal to fund the restoration of our Yamaha grand piano. To date
$2,600.00 has been raised towards the approximate $4,500.00 cost
of the project. We are grateful to The Council which has agreed to
fund the remaining amount. Thank you also to Jo Dullard and Donna
Rutz for the eye-catching poster near the Narthex tables to show our progress
throughout this appeal. David will let us know when the restoration has been
completed so that we can celebrate the refreshed sound of the piano.
7SEND A KID
TO CAMP
Northlea & Leaside
United Churches
are working together to send
100 Needy Kids
to summer day camp.
For only $50 per child, you can help send a kid to day camp
for three weeks – that is only $17/week/kid!!! And that gets
one kid three whole weeks of fun and learning in a healthy,
nurturing environment. This is an opportunity to give a kid a
chance to experience some of those things we think nothing
of giving our own kids every day!
It is the children in the Thorncliffe and Flemingdon Park areas
who will have a chance to attend summer day camps staffed
by the TNO - Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Centre. Here are
some of the quotes from kids who attended these camps in
the past:
“The big event I’m looking forward to is
rock climbing. It’s something I love to do
but can’t do it often.”
“It has a great vibe, great energy. I have a
lot of fun at camp. That’s why I keep
coming!”
Note: Tax receipts will be issued for amount of $20 or more. Write “TNO Kids
to Camp” on the memo line.
8HOW CAN YOU HELP??
Easy & Fun - LOONIES FOR LENT – Northlea youth
have created Loonies for Lent boxes for members of
the congregation. Deposit a loonie in your box for
each day in lent, mark your name, envelope number
and address on the box and put it in the collection
plate by April 14th (feel free to drop a couple of extra
toonies to bring your count to $50) and you will have sent a kid to camp!
Easy & Quick – Special envelopes will be available in
the Office. Simply put your donation in one of these
envelopes with your name, envelope number and
address and drop it in the collection plate. Every little
bit helps to send a kid to camp!
