ENACTUS UNITED STATES OVERVIEW OUR MISSION Engage the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders to use innovation and business principles to improve the world. OUR VISION To create a better, more sustainable world. OUR BELIEF Investing in students who take entrepreneurial action for others creates a better world for us all. ABOUT ENACTUS UNITED STATES Our story Enactus is a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to enable human progress. We establish student programs on campuses across the nation. Enactus students apply business concepts to develop community empowerment projects, transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. Our people Enactus was originally founded in the United States in 1975 and the US is now one of 37 countries from around the world that operates an Enactus program. Enactus United States is the single largest country operation and is a priority for the future growth and development of the Enactus organization. Our competitions National Competitions are dramatic, energy-filled events where Enactus teams showcase the collective impact of their community outreach efforts. Students present their projects and are evaluated by business leaders serving as judges who rank them on how successful they were at using business concepts to improve the livelihoods of others through entrepreneurial action. The winners of these National Competitions are then invited to compete at the prestigious Enactus World Cup. ENACTUS JUDGING CRITERION: Which Enactus team most effectively demonstrated entrepreneurial leadership to drive business and innovation for sustainable positive impact to benefit people, planet and prosperity within the last year? Enactus Team Handbook Companion 6
THE ENACTUS JUDGING CRITERION IN DEPTH Every country that operates an Enactus program, at minimum, organizes a national competition, from which one institution is named national champion and advances to compete at the Enactus World Cup. In every country around the world, and at each level of the overall competition, the judging criterion remains the same: Which Enactus team most effectively demonstrated entrepreneurial leadership to drive business and innovation for sustainable positive impact to benefit people, planet, and prosperity within the last year? Entrepreneurial Leadership: identifying a need and capitalizing on opportunities by taking personal responsibility, managing risk and managing change within a dynamic environment. Innovation: the process of introducing new or improving existing ideas, services, technologies, products or methodologies. Use of Business Principles: applying a sound business model and business plan. Sustainable Positive Impact: demonstrating a measurable, lasting improvement for people, planet and prosperity.* * Prosperity - fulfilling lives economically and socially For more details about how to effectively implement projects, refer to page 26 in the Enactus 2020 Team Handbook. In addition, the agreement ensures the quality of the Enactus name and network; helping Enactus Staff retain and recruit new partner companies; providing better experience and resources for teams. Enactus United States Team Affiliation Agreement 2021 – 2022 1. Maintain an Accurate Roster Within the Enactus Platform (Faculty & Students) Why this is important: Maintaining your Enactus roster is not only crucial to our ability to deliver your members important relevant information, it’s vital to our ability to attract and retain the partners, funding, and grants that make Enactus possible. Further Detail: Your actual team positions may differ from the required list provided. Your team can be innovative to create your own titles and roles but must determine how you map those fields by associating the student leader most responsible for that role listed above. For instance, if your team uses the “Director of Projects” or “VP of Projects” naming convention, you would map that person to the “Overall Leader of Projects” field. In addition to our minimum required positions, we strongly encourage each member to include their position or primary project involvement (i.e. project “xyz” member). Please refer to this roster management guide which outlines this requirement and other FAQs in greater detail. 2. One Project Card Completed on Enactus+ Why this is important: In order to maintain Enactus team status, you must be working on at least one team project that adheres to the Enactus project criterion. In an effort to keep active records of these projects and to encourage collaboration between teams, we ask that you upload your projects onto the Enactus+ platform. Enactus+ (plus.enactus.org), the new digital community from Enactus, allows students to present team projects, participate in challenge opportunities and collaborate with other students across the world through various discussion forums. Further Detail: To Login on Enactus+: Enactus+ is single sign-on with other Enactus platforms, so use the same login information you do for the Enactus Portal and Enactus event registrations. To Upload a Project: To add a project to your team profile, visit your team page either by searching for your school in the search bar at the top of E+ or by clicking the link on the home page under “My Team”. On your team page, click the “Create Project” button in the top right corner of the page and fill out all the necessary material. 3. Team Project Report Submitted by Enactus Determined Deadline Why this is important: The team project report serves as our biggest resource from teams to showcase the impact that Enactus teams have in their communities, country and around the world. Throughout the year partners, current and prospective, ask for specific project information that match their CSR. If we know all the projects our teams are working on, we can help to make positive connections for teams. Project data also helps us to bring relevant challenges and accelerator opportunities. Additionally, as a non-profit organization, Enactus United States is required to report annually on our data. This reporting comes from you, the teams, and helps determine the funding our organization is qualified to apply for. 4
Further Detail: Each team will complete the team project report, which will open in early Spring. Teams will need to report every project that has been worked on throughout the current academic year. If a team is competing, they will need to complete the report at least 3 business days prior to the start of the competition. If a team is not competing, they will have until May 31st to submit the report. All teams can make updates/changes before the final May 31st deadline. 4. Complete a Minimum of Three Different Team Engagement Opportunities Per Year Why this is important: Team/student/advisor engagement is vital to the success of all Enactus United States teams. This section of the Affiliation Agreement is meant to help Enactus Unites States better support team needs, and more importantly, help develop stronger relationships and communication channels. In the past few years, it has been difficult for Enactus staff to easily track the engagement, growth, and progress of teams and therefore difficult to provide effective support. This information also helps Enactus United States to better understand what engagement opportunities are highly valued, enabling us to create more relevant opportunities in which our teams can participate. Further Detail: Within the 2021 – 2022 academic year, teams must complete any combination of three engagement opportunities. To ensure all teams have a fair and equal chance to complete the requirement, Enactus United States staff will provide more than four free virtual engagement opportunities within the academic year. We recognize that team engagement comes in various shapes as sizes which is why there is a variety of ways to engage. 1. Minimum of 1 annual meeting with Enactus Program Manager: a phone call/video conference/in person meeting where Enactus staff learns about the team’s progress on goals, project development, competition/event preparation (if applicable), transition plan, etc. 2. Participate in Competition Event (US National Exposition and/or Enactus World Cup): Teams must register prior to the registration deadline in order to receive the engagement opportunity credit. * 3. Participate in Project Program (Project Accelerators, Challenges, Races): Team completes an application for one of the project programs. Team will get two credits if accepted for a project program and successfully submits the Final Impact Report. 4. Participation in an individual student development program: Enactus and our partner companies realize how important student development opportunities are to the success of students after graduation as well as the impact those skills learned can have on the success and sustainability of Enactus Teams. Teams will get one point when they have a minimum of 1 student complete a student development program like BNY Mellon Enactus Student Fellows Program, Summer Leadership Series, and the Enactus Entrepreneurial Exchange. 5. Attend an Enactus Training/Partner/Networking Events (Minimum of 1 student): Teams must register prior to the registration deadline and show up to the event to receive the engagement opportunity credit. * 6. Complete Enactus Training Center Coursework (Minimum of 2 Courses Completed Per Team): A minimum of at least two individuals must complete one course on the Enactus Training Center to receive the engagement opportunity credit. Only one course completion per individual will be counted. 7. Host/Attend Other Team Created Event (Approved by Enactus Staff): Teams can host/attend a training, networking, or collaboration event approved by Enactus Staff. If hosting, the team must work in conjunction with their Regional Program Manager to plan and execute the event to receive the engagement opportunity 5
credit. If attending the event, a team must register prior to the registration deadline in order to receive the engagement opportunity credit. Please see above “Important Notice” for credit qualification details and required attendance rate. * Important Notice: As COVID-19 has affected the types of events Enactus can offer safely, we reserve the right to change this agreement as circumstances change. As always, we are committed to your safety. We plan for events based on registration numbers. When students and teams register for events but fail to attend it costs Enactus time and money. Additionally, it puts our relationships with our partners at risk because attendance estimates we may have shared with them are then inaccurate. Therefore, teams with less than 75% attendance rate (based on number of students registered before deadline) for an event that they were previously registered for will result in the loss of 1 engagement opportunity credit. Engagement opportunity credit will not be deducted if team/attendees cancel prior to the registration deadline. Extenuating circumstances will be handled on a case-by-case basis. 6
