Who was he ?
• Alphonse Capone alias Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899 in
  Brooklyn, New York and died on January 25, 1947 in Palm Island,
  Miami.
• Capone was the most famous gangster of the 20’, he was the
  co-founder and boss of the Chicago Outfit who used to
  smuggle alcohol and other illegal activities during the
  « Prohibition » era.

                             Prohibition: It was a nationwide constitutional law from 1920 to
                             1930, in the United States, that banned production, import,
                             transportation and sale of alcoholic berevages.

His personality:
         An elegant gangster
    Capone wanted to look like a respectable
    buisnessman. He used to be well dressed with :
       • a white borsalino (hat)
       • a suit
       • an overcoat
       • leather shoes

    As he was rich , Capone liked expensive and
    beautiful clothes.

                                 The beginning of his life

                        • Al Capone was born, from Italian immigrants, on January 17, 1899 in
                          Brooklyn in a Catholic family. At 12, he left school , began to do casual
                          works and joined notorious street gangs who trained him to crime
                          techniques. We gave him the legendary nickname of « Scarface » because
                          he had a scar on his cheek.

• On December 30, 1918, he got married to Mae Coughlin and then they
  had a son Albert Francis Capone.

In the 1920’s, Capone joined Johnny Torio in Chicago,
Illinois. After some crimes and murders, he became his
right-hand man.

                             • In 1925, Capone became the crime czar of Chicago when Torio
                               retired to Italy after an assassination who had gone wrong. During
                               years, he used to make money with illegal activities. Al Capone
                               also used to expand his teritories by gun down his rivals and rival
                               gangs. His most notorious bloodletting was the St. Valentine’s day
                               Massacre on Febuary 14, 1929.

                             • On october 1931, Capone was arrested by Eliot Ness and
                               sentenced to 11 years in prison and $50,000 in fines and
                               court costs for tax frauds.

• Al Capone died on January 25, 1947 of a stroke and a pneumonia in his estate in Palm
  Island, Miami.
• He was 48 years old.

• Men working for Al Capone dressed up as policemen and entered a garage at 2122 North
  Clark Street run by members of the Georges « Bugs » Moran gang, lined their opponents up
  against a wall and shot them

                   In the prohibition, Capone made money easily with his buisness.

He used to run :

• The alcohol smuggling

• The drug trafficking

• The running of gamblings

• The prostitution
