                      National Indigenous Day of Prayer
We are now permitted to have 100 people present for services. We still have to deal with
registrations and have a volunteer team present, so, for the time being, we will be only
offering the one Sunday morning service. This service will be at 11 a.m. and will be both on-
line and in-person. We will make some adaptations to the service, in order to comply with
regulations. For example, there will be less singing and the in-person congregation will only be
permitted to sing the last hymn, but we will have other hymns for the people joining us on-
line.

Opening Hymn: 293 There’s a voice in the wilderness crying Ascension

There’s a voice in the wilderness crying, 3. But the word of our God endureth,
A call from the ways untrod:                      The arm of the Lord is strong;
Prepare in the desert a highway, He stands in the midst of nations,
A highway for our God! And he will right the wrong:
The valleys shall be exalted He shall feed his flock like a shepherd,
The lofty hills brought low;                      And fold the lambs to his breast;
Make straight all the crooked places, In pastures of peace he’ll lead them,
Where the Lord our God may go! And give to the weary rest.

2. O Zion, that bringest good tidings, 4. There’s a voice in the wilderness crying,
Get thee up to the heights and sing! A call from the ways untrod:
Proclaim to a desolate people Prepare in the desert a highway,
The coming of their King: A highway for our God!
Like flowers of the field they perish, The valleys shall be exalted
The works of men decay,                           The lofty hills brought low;
The power and pomp of nations Make straight all the crooked places,
Shall pass like a dream away. Where the Lord our God may go!

7. O LORD, show thy mercy upon us, / and grant us thy salvation.
8. I WILL hearken what the LORD God will say: / for he shall speak peace unto his people
   and to his saints, / and unto them that turn their heart to him.
9. Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him, / that glory may dwell in our land.
10. Mercy and truth are met together: / righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11.Truth springeth out of the earth; / and righteousness hath looked down from heaven.
12. Yea, the LORD shall give what is good; / and our land shall yield her increase.
13. Righteousness shall go before him, / and shall direct his going in the way.

Gradual Hymn: 466 We love the place, O God Quam dilecta

 We love the place, O God,                                 4. We love thine altar, Lord;
 Wherein thine honour dwells; O what on earth so dear?
 The joy of thine abode For there, in faith adored,
 All earthly joy excels. We find thy presence near.

 2. It is the house of prayer, 5. We love the word of life,
 Wherein thy servants meet; The word that tells of peace,
 And thou, O Lord, art there Of comfort in the strife,
 Thy chosen flock to greet. And joys that never cease.

 3. We love the sacred font; 6. We love to sing below
 For there the Holy Dove                                   For mercies freely given;
 To pour is ever want But O we long to know
 His blessings from above. The triumph-song of heaven.

                               7. Lord Jesus, give us grace
                               On earth to love thee more,
                               In heaven to see thy face,
                               And with thy saints adore.

Offertory Sentence

Offertory Hymn: Upon this Rock St. John Baptist
             Written for the 300th Anniversary of the Cathedral Parish of St. John the Baptist,
                          St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada, 1999. Roger Whalen

Upon this Rock, three-hundred years now told,
we daily praise your name, Lord, your wonders we behold:
the earth, the sky, the water which surrounds;
your praise we sing – your love abounds.
2. We come, O Lord, rejoicing in your name
we share the ancient news, Lord, from when to earth you came;
and now our modern lives we freely give,
your praise we sing – your love we live.

3. Through winter’s storms and summer’s clear blue sky,
we come into your house, Lord, to hear the Gospel cry;
the Hope, the Love, which you have brought to stay:
your praise we sing – your love we pray.

4. We come, O Lord, unto this Holy place,
we gather here with you, Lord, enveloped in your grace;
our prayers we raise in one united voice,
Your praise we sing – our hearts rejoice.

5. All praise the Father, and all praise the Son,
all praise the Holy Ghost, Lord, forever to be one;
the Trinity we worship and adore,
your praise we sing forevermore.

The Blessing

Dismissal Hymn: 379 O God, our help in ages past St. Anne

 O God, our help in ages past, 4. A thousand ages in thy sight
 Our hope for years to come,                       Are like an evening gone;
 Our shelter from the stormy blast, Short as the watch that ends the night
 And our eternal home! Before the rising sun.

 2. Beneath the shadow of thy throne 5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
 Thy saints have dwelt secure;                     Bears all its sons away;
 Sufficient if thine arm alone, They fly, forgotten as a dream
 And our defence if sure. Dies at the opening day.

 3. Before the hills in order stood, 6. O God, our help in ages past,
 Or earth received her frame,                      Our hope for years to come;
 From everlasting thou art God, Be thou our guard while troubles last,
 To endless years the same. And our eternal home!

Crypt Tea Room: It will come as no surprise that we have decided not to proceed with the
Crypt Tea Room again this year. Even though restrictions are being gradually lifted, we simply
do not have the space to be able to offer the Tea Room in a safe and responsible manner. We
hope that the Crypt Tea Room will be able to return in 2022. However, we are working on a
plan to produce Crypt Tea Room Take Out Packages! More details will be available soon!
We gratefully acknowledge donations to:
 Altar Guild Flower Fund in loving memory of Olive Phillips from her nephew, Jim Nightingale.
 Endowment Fund in memory of Mary Bennett form Anthea & Michael Donnan.
 General Fund in memory of Pierre Lioni Ullman, and in thanksgiving for the Cathedral’s online
 morning prayer service, from Karen Beaumont.

 academic achievement & involvement in the Cathedral Parish. The selection committee will
 consist of the Rector and Wardens. Applications for the 2021 award are available from the
 Cathedral Office, and must be received in the Office on or before 4 pm on August 20th, 2021.
