Updated NSW Health screening advice, including influenza vaccination
requirements in residential aged care
NSW Health has released updated screening advice on 04 June 2021.

The key messages from this update are:

    1. There has been local transmission of COVID-19 in NSW with close and casual contact locations
       identified. Staff and visitors who have been in the Whittlesea Local Government Area in the
       previous 14 days should be excluded from working or visiting aged care facilities. There are close
       and casual contact locations in Southern in NSW
    2. Staff should be excluded if in the last 14 days they have been in
            • Victorian places of high concern (these are the close and casual contact venues; visit
                the Victorian Government Case alerts- public exposure sites to navigate through the dates
                and venues)

            • Greater Melbourne or the City of Greater Bendigo

    3. Staff who have been to Greater Melbourne and the Greater City of Bendigo in the last 14 days are
       excluded from residential care facilities and working as home care service providers. Readers are
       directed to visit the Victorian Government Case alerts- public exposure sites to navigate through
       the dates and venues of close and casual contact locations
    4. In line with the National COVID-19 Aged Care Plan, residential aged care providers should also
       maintain a worker register that records which of their employees work across multiple settings or
       lives with someone who does. Understanding this information is critical for contact tracing
       purposes.
    5. Further support for workers and employers is available through the Guiding Principles Support Hub
       website or hotline on 1800 491 793.
    6. From 1 June to 30 September 2021, all visitors and staff entering a residential aged care facility
       should be required to provide evidence that they have received a dose of the 2021 influenza

vaccination. For further information please see exceptional and special circumstances for visiting
        an residential aged care facility.
    5. For home care:
            a. Influenza vaccination is recommended for all staff.
            b. Staff conducting home visits in the Greater Sydney area, including metropolitan Sydney,
                 Nepean Blue Mountains and Central Coast must wear a surgical mask at all times.
    6. This information can change rapidly so please check the NSW Health website at least daily for
       updates.
    7. The response to the COVID-19 pandemic in NSW has disrupted our ability to move around and
       gather together at different times. It has meant a significant change in the way we live and how we
       engage with each other.
It has also meant that services have been disrupted at times - including services to people with disability,
such as:

    •   disability residential accommodation
    •   respite accommodation services
    • employment - including Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE)
    •   education and training
    •   day programs
    • public transport and disability-specific travel services
    •   disability supports at home
    • other disability services such as disability-related or other health supports, access to the
        community, attendance at medical and other appointments etc.

Healthy Wealthy and Wise: The 2021-22 NSW Intergenerational Report
The 2021-22 NSW Intergenerational Report (IGR) presents a snapshot of our future State to inform the
policies that will continue to make New South Wales the best place to live, work, run a business and raise a
family. The IGR projects that by 2061 the people of NSW can expect to live longer lives, have more flexible
career options, and enjoy a higher standard of living.

“The way things will look for the people of NSW in 40 years will be vastly different to the world today,” Mr
Perrottet said.

Key findings of the 2021-22 NSW Intergenerational Report include:

    • Productivity is projected to become the biggest driver of our economic growth, increasing at 1.2
        per cent per year over the next 40-years;

    • By 2060-61, the fiscal gap is projected to be 2.6 per cent of GSP. While this is an improvement on
        the 3.4 per cent fiscal gap (by 2055-56) predicted in the previous 2016 IGR, this largely reflects
        modelling refinements and updated economic and demographic projections. This gap still indicates
        further action will be needed to avoid the State’s gross debt growing beyond sustainable levels
        over time;

    • The NSW population will expand by around 40 per cent to 11.5-million people in 2061, up from 8.2
        million;

    • Life expectancy is projected to increase to almost 92 years for women and just over 89 years for
        men for people born in 2061, with the median age expected to be 44 years compared to 38 today;

    •   NSW will need up to 1.7-million additional homes by 2061;

    • The jobs of the future will require a more highly skilled workforce and will be increasingly
        concentrated in the social services and business services sectors;

    • Average full-time wages will be around $139,000 per year in today’s dollars (compared to $86,000
        in 2018-19), with job growth fastest in business services and social services. Healthcare jobs will
        also increase in line with the ageing population.

 The Report examines key long-term challenges associated with an ageing population, a widening fiscal gap
between the revenue raised by the government and growing expenditure pressures, and rapid
transformation in the economy.

The Report also incorporates the significant impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We need to maintain a modern, diversified economy to ensure continued prosperity for generations to
come. A strong economy, supported by productivity-raising reform, high-quality services and
responsible fiscal management will enable us to build the collective wealth of the people of New
South Wales, and create resilience to shocks and uncertainty.

A head start on managing AN-ACC: new calculator released
Mirus Australia today launched an online AN-ACC calculator, a first step in helping aged care providers to
manage the transition in funding models from ACFI to AN-ACC.

The Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) funding tool will replace the current ACFI system
and is scheduled be live from October 2022.

The shadow assessment period is underway and the experience so far for providers is varied. But for
most, it raises questions on how they will be able to seamlessly operationalise the switch from ACFI to AN-
ACC.

“We’ve launched the AN-ACC calculator to help our providers get an early start on
how to familiarise themselves with what is coming and to better understand any differences in
entitlements under the new AN-ACC model.” says James Price, Co-Founder of Mirus Australia.

“The calculator takes everything we currently know about AN-ACC and we have added the ability to adjust
the National Weighted Acuity Unit (NWAU) loading to model outcomes. As we analyse more data
this NWAU becomes even more valuable – the power of big data really comes through here” says James.

"Mirus manages Medicare data for more than 80,000 beds and it's this exposure to big data that means we
can provide greater confidence in how AN-ACC will play out for you” says Tyler Fisher, Data &
Insights Senior Manager.

The calculator is available now and for free. For Mirus clients who subscribe to
the Mirus Metrics software solution, they will receive the additional benefit of comprehensive, facility and
resident level modelling of impact analysis as well as being able to see a AN-ACC resident score for each
resident record from July.

You can experience the Mirus AN-ACC calculator by visiting www.mirusaustralia.com.
