 Jerusha: Aged 18 years, the oldest orphan in the John Grier Home. Witty and intelligent, received funding for
 college from an anonymous benefactor whom she dubs Daddy Long Legs.
 Gender: Female Age: 18 to 25 Vocal range top: Bb5 Vocal range bottom: G3

 Jervis: Jerusha's anonymous benefactor. A shy, highly educated East Coast aristocrat.
 Gender: Male Age: 30 to 40 Vocal range top: G#4 Vocal range bottom: G3

Pump Boys and Dinettes: Mainstage Theatre
Important Dates for Pump Boys and Dinettes
Rehearsal Start: Tuesday June 29th, 2021

                                                    ROLES :
 Jackson (Lead): Male, 25-40:traditionally, he is the lead guitarist (country style) of the Pump Boys. Referred to
 as Lover Boy, the ladies like Jackson. Jackson is a strong singer, able to sing tight harmonies, and mostly sings
 the top line in the music.
 Jim (Lead): Male, 30-45:the front man of the Pump Boys. Traditionally, he plays rhythm guitar (country style).
 Must have the ability to chat with the audience in a very easy way. The storyteller of the evening, he introduces
 us to the other characters. Jim is a strong singer, able to sing tight harmonies, and mostly sings the middle line in
 the music.
 Eddie (Lead): Male, 25-40: Silent presence with brief, comedic interactions. Baritone who plays electric guitar
 and bass.
 L.M. (Lead): Male, 30-40:the piano player (country/honky-tonk style) of the Pump Boys. Also could play
 accordion. They say women gravitate towards L.M., but that only makes him suspicious. Strong singer, able to
 sing tight harmonies.
 Rhetta Cupp (Lead): Female, 25-40 :a Dinette who works at the Double Cupp Diner, and the older sister of
 Prudie. A mother of two, she remains single. Full of life, she can sing, dance, and, of course, make great pie.
 Optional ability to play instruments. Strong singer, belt and soul, and sings bottom line.
 Prudie Cupp (Lead): Female, 25-35: a Dinette who works at the Double Cupp Diner, and the younger sister of
 Rhetta. Like her sister, she is also full of character and fun, can sing, dance, and make great pie. Optional to have
 percussive skills. Optional ability to play instruments. Strong singer, mix, sings top line.

 Truvy Jones – 25 to 45. Owns the town beauty shop, Vivacious, knows everyone’s business and shares it with
 anyone who will listen. Dispenses advice with lots of hairspray.
 Annelle Dupuy Desoto – 18 to 24. Very shy, newly hired assistant. Moves from unsure to wild to religious.
 Clairee Belcher – 55 to 60. Widow of former mayor. Grand dame. Sarcastic member of the group. Elegant,
 sophisticated. Loves to laugh and poke fun at the little things others cry over.
 Shelby Eatonton Latcherie – 19 to 24. Prettiest girl in town. Loves pink. Strong willed, passionate.
 M’Lynn Eatenton – 40 to 50. Shelby’s mother. Over protective at times. Always knows what’s best. Strong,
 stubborn, the heart of the piece.
 Ouiser (pronounced Weezer) Boudreaux – 55 to 60. Wealthy curmudgeon. Tough, eccentric character. The role
 of Ouiser is cast.

                                                    ROLES:
Narrator: (Supporting): 18-64 Mostly non singing, guides us through the show in a dry, British humor inspired
manner. Strong presence.
Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter (Lead): Male 25-50: Bari/tenor, cross dressing mad scientist/transvestie from the planet
Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania. Brilliant comic timing and charismatic.
Brad Majors (Lead): Male 20-30, Tenor, High G, Handsome and wholesome young man, must be able to play
stilted innocence and as well as some fragility.
Janet Weiss: Female, 20-30, mezzo with belt, occasional high F, youthful, pretty and wholesome young woman,
she’s coy and shy at first then becomes sexy and outlandish
Riff Raff (Supporting) Male 20-50, strong rock tenor, High B, an eccentric Butler of Dr. Frank N Furter, must
be able to sufficiently scream the time warp.

 Magenta (Supporting): Female, 20-40: husky rock mezzo/alto, low B to high E flat, a very strange servant of Dr.
 Frank 'N' Furter, possibly has Eastern-European accent, an exotic beauty, she exudes sex, also appears as "Trixie
 - The Usherette" and sings "Science Fiction Double Feature."
 Rocky Horror(Supporting): Male, 20-30
 rock baritone/tenor, high A, the result of one of the Frank's experiments, he is muscular, tan and epitomizes the
 image of "the perfect man."
 Columbia (Supporting): Female, 20-30 mezzo/high tenor, strong belt, one of Dr. Frank 'N' Furter's groupies,
 strong character actor, cute and bubbly with a rough, rocker side, must be able to tap.
 Eddie/Dr. Everett Scott (Supporting): Male, 20-45
 rock tenor, high F#, a freeze-dried delivery guy who rocks, a rumpled scientist, high school tutor of Brad and
 Janet, in a wheelchair, strong character actor with amazing comedic timing, any physical type, German accent.
 Transylvanlans/Phantoms (Background/ Extra): Males & Females, 18-64
 they appear for rocking back-ups and dance sequences, singers/actors of various body types and all vocal ranges,
 but must be able to dance, these characters are involved in audience interaction.

Jerry Lee Lewis: Male, 20-30. Rock ‘n’ Roll’s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated Last Man Standing. Must
be a superb piano player.

Elvis Presley: Male, 20-30. The first and still undisputed King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Must play guitar.

Carl Perkins: Male, 20-30. The first poet of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Must be a leading guitar player.

Johnny Cash: Male, 20-30. A giant of American music at the dawn of his epic career. Must play guitar.

Sam Phillips: Male, 30-40. The Father of Rock ‘n’ roll and the founder of Sun Records. Discovered Jerry Lee
Lewis, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and many others including Roy Orbison and B.B. King. A
towering and charismatic figure in American music.

Dyanne: Female, mid-twenties.An aspiring singer who can hold her own among four legends of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Elvis’s girlfriend.

Brother Jay: Male, mid-twenties. Brother of Carl Perkins. Must play bass.

Fluke: Male Identified, mid-twenties. Must be a superb drummer.

Grace Banker: Articulate and poised, with a core of steely strength that makes itself apparent as she grows into her
role as leader.
Suzanne Prevot: From New York City. Feisty, sardonic, tough-talking. A close friend of Grace’s from AT&T.
Helen Hill: From Idaho. A typical small-town farm girl… Sweet, over-enthusiastic, wholesomely kooky and prone
to nervous panic.
Bertha Hunt: Married to a Navy doctor who is also serving. Older, wiser, reliable – The Den Mother. Extremely
knowledgeable about military matters.
Louise Lebreton: 18. Fearless, flirty, headstrong and often insubordinate. Born in France, she has family fighting
with the French army.
Cpt. Joseph Riser: The Signal Corps officer who recruits and trains the women. A career army man, a stickler for
rules and order, he is skeptical of the women’s presence in the army.
Lt. Ernest Wessen: Head of the recruiting center for the Signal Corps
Pvt. Eugene Matterson: An enlisted man who works closely with Lt. Riser.
Pvt. Robert Dempsey: A Signal Corps operator at the Paris Telephone Exchange
Gen. John Pershing: Commander of the American Expeditionary Forces. Hard, relentless, inflexible, with a deep
sense of honor and American individualism and identity.
*with the exception of Capt. Riser and Gen. Pershing, the men all play a variety of supporting roles

 Kathy Seldon: Female, 20-29 Beautiful ingenue; must sing & dance (especially tap) extremely well; vocal range:
G3-F5.
Lina Lamont: Female, 20-29Silent film diva with a big personality and a grating nasal voice; non-singing & non-
dancing role but strong comedic skills a must.
Miss Dinsmore: Female, 45-55 pretentious vocal coach.
Rosco Dexter: Male, 30-50 High strong film director with theatrical mannerisms & tendencies
R.F. Simpson: Male, 50-65 Head of "Monumental Pictures."

 a radiant survivor who triumphantly journeys through a life filled with soul-reckoning challenges and
 emotional/physical violence; she is anchored by a rock-solid faith in God, love and devotion for her sister
 Nettie, and the intimacy-awakening bond that she develops with Shug Avery; powerhouse high belt with lots
 of soul; lead.Ethnicity: Black / African Descent
 Mister (Lead): Male, 30-40
 also known as Albert; a deeply troubled man, he is married to Celie and abuses her; masculine, dominating
 and well-built; he is also the estranged love interest to Shug Avery for whom he still carries a torch;
 eventually he is redeemed by a self-reckoning and atoning for his transgressions. Soulful Baritone; lead.
 Ethnicity: Black / African Descent
 Shug Avery (Lead): Female, 30-50
 a sultry siren and juke-joint performer who has seen better days; a former lover of Mister and a ‘good-time
 girl’, whose body, soul, and desire to love again is reawakened by Celie and the intimate bond they form with
 one another; she lifts Celie up, inspires her and gives her the will to fight for what she believes in; a star
 performer with a powerful gospel voice; actor must be comfortable with movement; lead.Ethnicity: Black /

 Harpo’s wife and Celie’s friend for life; a full-figured woman who possesses a giant personality, along with

 Harpo (Supporting): Male, 20-30
 Mister’s hapless son from his first marriage; handsome and well-built. Well intended, but often falls short;
 represents the new generation; deeply in love with his independent wife Sophia, however, believing that
 "manly" men dominate their wives, he’s constantly causing himself marital problems; later on, he becomes
 smitten with his girlfriend Squeak; he eventually finds his firm footing and manhood soon after Mister’s
 transformation and the return of his beloved Sofia; soulful Tenor; principal.Ethnicity: Black / African Descent
 Nettie (Supporting): Female, 20-30
 Celie’s sister, and her rock; educated, driven, adventuress and protected by circumstance; unwaveringly
 devoted to her sister; she is nonetheless torn apart from her and goes on to realize a fulfilled life in Africa,
 which includes serving as caretaker to Celie’s ‘lost’ children and ultimately reuniting them with their mother;

 Squeak (Chorus / Ensemble): Female, 20-30
 Harpo's girlfriend; sassy, fiery, and strong-willed with a caring heart; aspires to be a blues singer; although
 she is mistreated, she undergoes a thorough transformation by claiming her own independence and identity as
 a woman; actor should have strong comedic ability with a strong belt with Soprano; featured ensemble.

seeking three actors to appear in the onstage ensemble as Doris, Darlene and Jarene, a trio of busybody types
who love to gossip about the people of their town; they comment on the action throughout the show; these are
country folk who shimmer with an eternally earthy and spiritual wisdom; will also cover the roles of Celia,
Shug Avery and Sofia; fantastic high gospel belt; featured ensemble.Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

Shug’s husband; extremely boring and plain, not good enough for Shug; Celie can’t stand the way he treats

also known as Alphonso; a remorseless child molester and father to Celie & Nettie, as well as father to
Celie’s two children whom he abducts and gives away at birth; an angry and vicious man, which manifests

young handy man who expresses a fondness for Celie and helps her around the house; Bari-Tenor; ensemble.

Mister’s father; a scathing, angry, selfish man who disapproves of his son and his relationship with Shug; he
owns the farmland on which Mister lives and seems to believe that his own status as a landowner makes him
better than other people; despite this, he is detested by most everyone; Preacher – the preacher at the local
church; Bari-Tenor; ensemble.Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

 NICK: 30 to 40's male. A writer. Nigel's older brother. He holds a grudge against Shakespeare. Seeking a great
 comedic actor with that sings and dances very well.

 NIGEL:30 to early 40's male. A writer. Nick's younger brother. Sweet and a little awkward. He is in love with
 Portia. Seeking a great comedic actor that sings very well.

 LORD CLAPHAM: Older male. Patron of the theatre. He's flamboyant and extremely posh. Seeking a great
 comedic actor that sings well.

 WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE:30'-40's Male. Over the top, cocky, a true rock star of his time. He is the
 renaissance James Brown. Seeking a great comedic actor that sings and dances very well.

 THOMAS NOSTRADAMUS: Male, 40s to S0s. A soothsayer. He predicts that Nick and Nigel will write a
 musical. Seeking a great comedic actor that sings and dances very well.

 BROTHERJERIMIAH: Male, S0s. A Puritan. The father of Portia. He despises Nick and Nigel. Seeking a great
 comedic actor that sings very well.

 SHYLOCK: An older Jewish man. Nick and Nigel are in debt to him. He becomes an investor in their musical.
 Seeking a great comedic actor that sings well.

 BEA:30's Female. Nigel's wife. She loves Nigel despite his past lack of success. She dresses up like a man to
 prove she can be an actor. Seeking a great comedic actress that sings very well.

 PORTIA:20' s-30's Female. A beautiful puritan woman that Nick meets on the street. She has golden hair and
 loves poetry. Seeking a great comedic actress that sings very well.

Pasty Cline:
age 25-35. Seeking a dynamic and passionate actor/singer who can embody Patsy Cline in voice and spirit. The
ability to mimic Patsy's unique vocal sound is imperative.

Louise Seger: Female, age 35-60. A strong-willed, funny Texan woman and an engaging storyteller. She has a
great deal of interaction with the audience as she relates to the friendship she develops with Patsy. Strong comedic
sense is needed for this role.

 Cuban; Gloria’s grandmother; Cuban stage mother; sometimes an apparition; wise; loving; warm. Gloria’s
