President’s Message
Dallas Ski Club just had our first ever virtual trip sign up on Zoom. It was a
resounding success and our trips are all almost full. We have offered a liberal
cancellation policy because of these uncertain times. You still have time to sign up
or get on the waitlist. Go to our website for complete information.

Lynn Erickson We look forward to a new year with our traveling Dallas Ski Club friends while we

President go to Purgatory, Aspen, Telluride, Australia, New Zealand and Figi.

Last call on membership renewal. Please make sure you have rejoined for the upcoming year so that you
can get updates and invites to all events.

Our DSC Board has continued to make plans for parties and Happy Hours. We will make adjustments as
each event approaches according to the current government health restrictions. Check out our calendar
showing our schedule.

Activities Update
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact our personal lives as well as the ability of the Dallas Ski Club
to host our activities. Under normal circumstances, we would have enjoyed several Happy Hours and
parties at this point in the year. To be on the safe side, we have pushed our plans for club parties out to
October 31. We are optimistic that the pandemic will be at manageable levels by then. As that is
Halloween night, we are planning for a Costume Party at Brookhaven Country Club. We have temporarily
reserved a banquet room with access to an outdoor patio. There is plenty of room for social distancing
if that will still be necessary. We hope that we can accommodate as many members as wish to attend by
that date. In the past, our halloween party has been one of our best events so start planning
for your costumes now. You can look forward to fun decorations, good food, music and dancing.

The Board continues to monitor local and state developments and adapts according. We are mindful that
many of us are in a vulnerable age group and want to keep our activities fun but also safe.

Hope to see you all soon!!

be waitstaff outside. ($1 off all bar
drinks excluding already special
priced drinks, complimentary chips &

the current Covid 19 restrictions,
however, as we know, that could
change! There will be no admission
fee. Everyone is on their own for food
& beverage.
First Ever
     ZOOM Kick Off Party
On August 2 we had our first virtual
trip kick off party via Zoom. There were
about 50 members in the session which
we thought was a good turnout. We
announced the trips for 2021 and began
taking signups. Since there are so many
unknowns right now we made some
minor changes to policy. We
encouraged people to sign up for the
trips with the usual deposits - $100 for
domestic trips and $200 for international
trips. The Dallas Ski Club Cancellation
Policy is amended waiving any DSC
Administrative Cancellation Fees. You
will be able to cancel with no penalty
anytime prior to November 30, 2020. In
addition, if there are governmental
regulations restricting travel at our
destination or in Dallas, trips will be
cancelled with full refunds.
Here is a brief rundown on the trips –
more specifics will be supplied in articles
by the trip leaders. All of the trips but
New Zealand are Dallas Ski Club trips.
New Zealand is a TSC trip so there will
also be other clubs in attendance.

Please go to the DSC website for
detailed info on any of the trips as well
as to sign up for any of them.

Telluride Trip Report 2/27 - 3/6/2021

The response to the trip to Telluride has been fantastic! Our initial allotment of twelve rooms
at The Peaks hotel sold out very quickly. Many of our members had experienced the ski in ski
out luxury of The Peaks hotel during our 2017 trip and were eager to return.

We started a wait list and began the search for additional lodging in Telluride. Fortunately we
were able to get two bedroom deluxe condos in The Mountain Lodge, and our initial allotment of
ten condos is already sold out also with only an opening for a single male to share a condo
remaining. We have obtained another condo, so there are now five slots open if you are
interested in going to Telluride. The Mountain Lodge is also ski in ski out, and the spacious
condos are an excellent alternative to the hotel.
Full information about the trip is available on our website, and online registration on the DSC
website is open. If you have any questions please contact Irving Reed, the trip leader.

New Zealand TSC Trip Report
In October of 2021 we will be having the trip originally planned for October 2020. Most of
the TSC clubs voted to just postpone the trip a year rather than cancel it. Here is a
breakdown on the specifics of the trip including pre and post trip:

       10/5/2021 – Departure for Cairns (pre-trip)
       10/7/2021 – Arrival in Cairns
       10/11/2021 – Cairns to Sydney (pre-trip)
10/14/2021 – Sydney to Auckland, NZ
       10/16/2021 – Auckland to Rotorua
       10/18/2021 – Rotorua to Queenstown
       10/23/2021 – Queenstown to Fiji (post-trip)
       10/27/2021 – Fiji to home

The majority of our members are doing the entire trip but a few are skipping the pre or
post trip options. There are a variety of activities scheduled for each of our stops so it should
be a fabulous trip. The website has a pretty good description of the activities included
in the trip. There will also be some optional activities available when we are there. We may
need to sign up for some of them while there as they may depend on weather. We currently
have 30 signed up for the trip but I expect we can accommodate more so there is no waitlist
yet. If you think you are interested it would be good to get your deposit in via the website.

For those that had insurance on the 2020 trip there will be a link to transfer the insurance
to the 2021 trip. We will send you the info once it is available. The pricing quoted on the
website is still the 2020 pricing as they are still putting together pricing for 2021 but we
expect it to be very similar. Both Australia and New Zealand will require a Visa. They are
very easy to obtain and inexpensive – we will start sending out info on them in 2021 as they
are usually only good for 12 months.

Texas residents will need REAL ID-compliant identification
to fly starting October 1, 2020 – Extended to 10-1-2021

AUSTIN - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Texas Department of Public Safety
today held a press conference at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to remind Texas residents
that starting Oct. 1, 2021, travelers will need a REAL ID-compliant form of identification to board a flight
at all U.S. airports.

Texas has been issuing REAL ID-compliant licenses and ID cards since October 2016. To determine if a
Texas driver license is REAL ID-compliant, look for the cutout of a gold star in the upper right-hand corner
of the license.

“Starting in about a year, all passengers will need a REAL ID-compliant license or another acceptable form
of ID to board a plane here at Austin-Bergstrom and nationwide,” said Mike Scott, TSA AUS federal
security director. “Signs are currently posted here at Austin and at airports around Texas reminding the
public of the October 1, 2021 deadline.”

Travelers who do not have a REAL ID may use another form of acceptable documentation, such as a valid
passport or military ID. For a complete list of acceptable IDs, go to https://www.tsa.gov/travel/
security-screening/identification. A REAL ID also will be required to gain access to secure federal facilities,
including military bases, nuclear facilities and some federal offices starting Oct. 1, 2021.

“The Texas Department of Public Safety wants to assure Texans that they have multiple options to receive
a REAL ID-compliant card if they do not already have one. We are reaching out to all of our customers
whose cards expire after October 2021 to let them know whether they can renew early or request a
duplicate to become compliant by the October 1, 2021 deadline,” said Skylor Hearn, deputy director,
Texas Department of Public Safety. “Customers who have yet to receive their letter can see if they are
eligible to take advantage of one of these two options by visiting Texas.gov today. If your card expires
before October 2021, don’t worry. You will get a REAL ID the next time you renew.”

If your card expires after October 1, 2021, you have multiple options:
● Do you have a passport? If so, you may choose to use that as your REAL ID credential.
● Does your card expire between October 2020 and October 2022? You can renew up to two years
ahead of your expiration date. Go to Texas.gov to see if you can renew online.
                                                                                                                  16
● If your card expires between October 2020 and October 2022, you can request a duplicate at
Texas.gov. You will be provided a REAL ID compliant duplicate, which will remain valid until it’s time for
you to renew.

If your card expires after October 1, 2022, you have multiple options:
● Do you have a passport? If so, you may choose to use that as your REAL ID credential.
● You can mail in a form to request a duplicate Driver License or ID card, or
● You can visit Texas.gov to request a duplicate Driver License or ID card.

Passed by Congress in 2005, the REAL ID Act complies with the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation that
the federal government “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver’s licens-
es.” The Act established minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification
cards and prohibits federal agencies from accepting licenses and identification cards from states that do
not meet these standards for official purposes, such as at airport security checkpoints. The regulations
established the deadline of October 1, 2021, to ensure full enforcement of the REAL ID Act. States have
made considerable progress in meeting this key recommendation of the 9/11 Commission.
