been more proud of St Dominic Village. Our staff,
residents, families, friends, and volunteers have
amazed me.
As I write this, it has been 330 days since we first
made the decision to shut down our campus to
the outside world. EVERYTHING that we do here
has changed. Everything that is except to care
for our residents. Whether the decisions made
were mandated by state and local government,
or decided by management, each decision was
made out of an abundance of caution to keep
our residents and staff safe. Together we have all
navigated this pandemic as a whole, and have

the loss of Auxiliary Bishop Vincent M. Rizzotto,
who passed away on the morning of January
17, 2021. Bishop will be greatly missed by many,
especially his St. Dominic village family. He was a
strong and faithful presence among us, and we
were honored that he called St. Dominic Village
home for so many years.
One of the greatest legacies that he leaves to
St. Dominic Village is the Golf Tournament he
began 17 years ago to benefit our residents. This
tournament has raised over $1 Milllion dollars to
support our mission of “Caring for Our Elders with
the Compassion of Christ.” Bishop and Amy at the 2019 Golf Tournament.
As we move forward with the tournament each
year we hope to honor his legacy and continue
to make it one of our biggest fundraisers of the
year!
Bishop ws lso an honored guest at the annual
Evening with the Bishops event. His long standing
devotion to serving our community will always
be admired an deeply missed.

When I reflected on the year 2020, with all of its
twists and turns, trials and tribulations; I thought
what has been the most positive thing that made
this year bearable? My first thought went to the
many graceful, spiritual activities we have had
here at St. Dominic Village. Patricia Egerman,
Spiritual Director, planned so many wonderful
Masses, Liturgies of the Word, Penance services,
prayer services, sing-a-longs, and Adoration of
the Blessed Sacrament to name a few.
In mid-March, when we could not go into the
chapel, she saw that the activities did not stop.
She recruited many of the residents to help and
made us all feel like we were a part of the services. Patricia Egerman, Dec. EOM and 2020 Employee of the Year.
The music ministry has been outstanding with a
wonderful choice of songs.
We are so thankful to God for channel 896
where we can participate in Mass from our
rooms. The liturgy of the Word services that she
planned were so meaningful with songs that we
could sing. St. Augustine said, “When we sing, we
pray twice.” Well, we did a lot of praying during
our sing-a-longs.
She saw to it that our spiritual needs were
met, and we are so grateful. In August when we
were able to once again have Mass in Warren
Chapel, we were so happy. Since then, we have
had, and are having, wonderful Masses, Penance Sr. Getrude Majani, November Employee of the Month.
services, Adoration, prayer services – and yes, our
wonderful sing-a-Iongs.
Our Christmas Mass was so wonderful and
helped us to be grateful for Jesus, our Light
coming into the world. Patricia Egerman deserves
special thanks for helping us get through the
year 2020 with stronger faith, hope, and love.
Also, with a greater awareness that we are never
alone. Our God is with us especially when things
are difficult. Thank you, Patricia, and may God
continue to bless your ministry.
Humbly submitted by Beatrice (Bea)

Hunter’s New Home
St. Dominic Village has seen many changes
By Grady Mullins
since the start of the pandemic back in March
of 2020. Sadly, one of these changes has been
the absence of Hunter, the campus Labrador
Retriever.
Our Medical Directors advised that he could
be a potential spreader of the virus, since he was
petted by so many different people each day.
Amy Shields, CEO, was gracious enough to
allow Hunter temporary residence in her home
during the pandemic, and her family lovingly
welcomed Hunter with open arms.
As time went on, Senior Management Hunter posing for a christmas photo with his new family.
contemplated Hunter’s return to our facility.
While Hunter had a dedicated fan club, he had
always been a somewhat reserved dog. He didn’t
seem to enjoy his celebrity status. Despite having
adorned the pages of the Village Voice and made
the front page of The TMC Pulse magazine, Hunter
just did not assimilate as well as we had hoped
and never developed the personality needed to
be an effective facility dog. He was often found
in an office or under a desk instead of interacting
with residents.
The team truly felt that Hunter would be better
off in a stable environment, and that the residents
and staff at SDV would be better served with a dog Hunter sharing a hug with his new friend.
that had a more outgoing personality. Therefore,
we will be looking for a new facility dog once we
feel it is safe to bring one on campus.
As for Hunter? Amy’s family has agreed to adopt
Hunter and make their home his forever home.
Hunter has said that he misses his St. Dominic
Village family and will be back to visit someday.
He also wants to help with the new facility dog
selection process!
As you can see from recent pictures, we feel
we made the right decision. Hunter hopes that
everyone had a very Merry Christmas, and looks
forward to the new year as he settles into being
a family dog. Hunter enjoying an afternoon in the back yard.
