At Redwood Academy we offer a dynamic, multi-cultural
APPLY TO BE PART OF OUR
environment. Small class numbers allow for individual
DYNAMIC FOUNDATION attention as well as effective group work. Working
PHASE within a technology enhanced environment, we
focus on understanding the learner’s potential and
encouraging both logical and creative thought processes
                          depending on the learners potential.

GRADE 1 ORIENTATION During the first 2 weeks of school, grade 1 learners
undergo our school readiness program. We also
provide an Orientation Guide for parents and a meet
and greet is arranged in January.

COMMUNICATION Communication with parents is done using a communi-
cation book, Microsoft Teams, the D6 Connect App
(used for news, calendar events, homework, fees, marks
and links to useful resources), e-mail and termly
                          newsletters.

Educators select the best available workbooks and
CURRICULUM MATERIALS
textbooks available for learners in all subjects. All
TOOLS, CODING AND academic materials are CAPS compliant and are updated
REDWOOD ONLINE based on the latest curriculum requirements and

include school-based assessment tasks, control tests and
examinations. Report cards that comply with the
Schools Act are handed out termly.

Learners and teachers use Microsoft Office 365 as well
as Microsoft Teams as a technology platform and learn-
ers have free access to the Redwood Online resources.

Coding is a very important learning area at Redwood
Academy. We use the Code Monkey platform where
learners become proficient at languages like Python. The
Minecraft for Education platform is something that is
                          being considered currently.

Redwood Academy will have a new home soon. Our school plan has been approved and the new
school will be bigger, have better sporting facilities and be located more centrally in a nice area in
Lenasia.

The new school will also have a library, swimming arena, hall and well equipped science laboratories
and computer rooms.

Building is planned to commence in July 2020 and we hope to be complete some time in 2022. A

WHAT MAKES REDWOOD ACADEMY DIFFERENT?
At Redwood Academy, we foster a love for learning, where respect, tolerance, leadership and comradery are
cultivated within a warm and nurturing environment .

Our learners are confident yet respectful individuals and apply the skills and principles learnt at school in their
everyday lives. Welcome to the growing community of families that believe in the value of a Redwood education.

We offer small classes and individualised learning through qualified and experienced educators. Our mathematics,
science, language and other departments offer the best available educators and a reputation for excellence. In 2017
and 2018 we had the top learner nationally in the SACAI matric examination. After changing over to the government
exam, we had the top learner in the south district for mathematics and accounting.

Technology is a focal point at our centre: We use electronic smart boards as well as standard whiteboards and
learners are required to bring a tablet (such as a Samsung Galaxy, iPad or similar) to school once a week for learning
purposes. Classrooms are equipped with a laptop and digital projector and are used to show videos, experiments,
movies for set works, learning animations, simulations and other valuable online learning resources. WiFi access is
provided to educators and learners for learning purposes.

A slightly shorter school day allows learners to focus better as well as allowing time for other important activities such
as play, sport, religious and cultural studies as well as family time.

Our Code of Conduct, together with a demerit system, ensures that our students are disciplined and responsible and
understand that there are consequences for their actions.
