◼ Craigieburn Secondary College was established in 1985. The
College campus is shared with Craigieburn South Primary
School, which provides the opportunity for an integrated
approach to a number of programs, services and facilities.
There is one School Council serving both the Secondary
College and the Primary School and various facilities are
    shared.

◼ We pride ourselves on having a strong code of professional
practice, including our knowledge of teaching and learning
and high expectations across the College.

◼ We know relationships make a difference to how students
learn, and we are purposeful in our work to provide a safe
    and engaging learning environment.
Our practices, structures and processes together work to put students in
                         ‘the right place to learn’
physically and emotionally, ensuring that each student is in an
environment where they can reach their highest potential

Dr Vajna Rafeek is at our school every Friday to help
students be as healthy as possible.

concerned or want help, information or advice about
any health issue including physical wellbeing, healthy
eating and exercise, sexual health, relationship issues,
or feeling scared, worried, upset or down.
Students can make an appointment with the school
nurse - Mallissa Allen (located in the sickbay) or they
can drop-in to the Doctors In school portable at
recess or lunch time with no appointment required.
2020 Mobile Phone
      Policy
School Policy
            Students using mobile phones

Mobile phones will be banned for all students at
Victorian state primary and secondary schools from
Term 1 2020, to help reduce distraction, tackle
cyberbullying and improve learning outcomes for
students
◼ This is a Ministerial policy formally issued by the
Minister for Education under section 5.2.1 (2)(b) of
the Education and Training Reform Act 2006
◼ Policy: Critical information (Extract)

o From Term 1 2020, students who choose to bring a
mobile phone/cellular device to school must have
them switched off and securely stored during
   school hours
Context
o Increasing concern regarding the way some students are
behaving with mobile devices during school hours

➢ Uber eats deliveries throughout the school day -> child
        safe standards
➢ Blue toothing of pornography and animal cruelty, with
        and without permission
➢ Videoing of other students and staff without permission,
and publication online (edited and unedited)

o Concern that some student behaviour is leading to
undesirable outcomes, e.g. from missed opportunity for
positive social interactions and education to reduce
attention span and incidents of anti-social behaviour
        and cyber bullying
Mobile Phone overuse can lead
to health and well being issues
o Researchers have noticed a worldwide rise in myopia (short
sightedness), myopia also increases the risk of major ocular
health disorder such as retinal tearing (X21), glaucoma
    (x40) and cataracts (X6) Langis 2019

o On average, teenagers are spending six hours per day on
the internet, texting friends and on social media; studies
show parallel increases in depression, anxiety and reduced
    happiness (Twenge 2017a, Tewenge 2017b)

o Research has found that having mobile devices (phones) in
secondary school is associated with both bullying and
cyber bullying, both as a bully and as a victim (Englander
    2018)
Key Themes
o The student Using Mobile Phone policy is
a Victorian government policy not a
Department one (though it functions as
    both).
o This policy is part of a state wide agenda,
    aligned to a national agenda.
o Our school will take an educative
    approach (i.e. Dialogue with students,
    staff and families, engaging with
    research to support its implementation.
Laptop & Netbook Devices
Each student at the College is required to
have a portable laptop or netbook device

◼ We have a range of options to support
students in achieving this, as outlined below:

     1. Purchase recommended device through
        the College’s commercial partner – JB Hi-Fi
        Commercial (Education Division)
     2. Co-contribution - $200 refundable security
bond to the school and $100 annual
        payment.
     3. Bring your own device (BYOD) [Microsoft]
