TREND REPORT | AUTUMN/WINTER 2021

As you’d expect, Autumn/Winter 2021 will continue to reflect
what we’re missing most by welcoming the influence of nature
and the outdoors into our daily lives. From spa breaks at home
to cosy comforts, this season we’re searching for a safe haven
and colours from the outside world more than ever.
                                                                   Did You Know?

With plenty of crossover between these trends, A/W 2021 is
a time to draw them all together for a singular goal – calm and
comfortable interiors.

Back to
  basics
Want to keep your home up to date? Circular consumerism and
sustainability are both big hot topics within interiors and fashion,
GOLDEN HARVEST so it’s no surprise that this movement is influencing how you design

						 basics
                  your space too.

At the forefront of this trend is the concept of “back to nature”,
highlighting natural finishes, layered textures and materials that
                  replicate our organic surroundings.

Of course, you can’t have a natural movement without natural
colours too. In particular, golden hues, mixed with less traditional
neutral palettes to create the sense of calm and comfort that A/W
2021 is all about. These warmer beige alternatives pair perfectly
with rich mineral tones, adding heat and depth to overcome the
                  colder temperatures outside.

If you need a shade to centre your style around, look no further
than Dulux’s Colour of the Year, ‘Brave Ground’. Designed to help
us “draw on the strength of nature to help find the courage to
embrace the future”, it might be just what we all need!

                      – which mixes the Scandi ‘hygge’ style with Japanese ‘wabi-sabi’.
JAPANDI TAKES OVER Both capture the ultimate sense of cosy, cocooned spaces by
bringing together considered choices with a neutral colour palette.

Like a lot of the A/W 2021 themes, the focus is on creating a
calm and comfortable oasis at home. How? By taking the bright
elements and sustainable materials of the Scandi palette, and
adding Japan’s soft textures and warm, earthy tones – giving you
interesting spaces that offer the best of both worlds.

Last but not least, the final piece of this trend puzzle are the
considered choices. Your shortcut to authenticity at home, they
can embrace the imperfections of natural materials while filling
your home with uplifting greenery at the same time.

Cosy
  does it...
First came Cottagecore, then Cabincore. What next?

HOME COMFORTS If we had to define this latest trend, we’d call it Indoorcore. But
what’s truly at the heart of all of this is the concept of comfort and

  does it...
                  cosiness.

As the season changes, we’re spending much more time indoors
                  – so we want our interiors to cocoon us in warmth and safety. And
let’s be honest, after the year we’ve all had, it’s no surprise we want
                  a safe haven.

The three keys to this trend? Layering up textures, wooden features
and soft, sink-into furniture. Don’t worry about being super strict,
this is all about making your home comfortable. Add your own
personal touches with art and those bits and bobs we all have. As
for colour - a rich palette of deep greens, purples and bloodstone
reds are perfect for bringing depth and character.

That 70’s
                                                                                                   TREND REPORT | AUTUMN/WINTER 2021

That 70’s
   show
Little by little, the 70’s revival has crept back into our interiors over the
past few years (think rattan, macrame, and of course – house plants).
NOSTALGIC NODS Born out of an era of positivity and freedom, it’s no surprise to see us

																	show
re-embracing that feeling within our home once again. Taking their cue
from nature, the materials picked represent a handmade, crafted appeal
                   – while the colours are warm, bold and comforting.

The biggest touchpoint for this trend is, of course, nostalgia – harkening
back to a past era of expression and joy, as well as the conscious
consumerism that we see across fashion and homewares. Recycling is
in again, like bringing your parents’ old living room rug back to life and
                   adding a little personal flair.

Think BBC’s ‘The Serpent’ - a stylised replica of the era’s best bits
throughout fashion and interiors across A/W 2021.

  TONAL BROWN
Last but not least, A/W 2021 will see a natural progression from the rich,
earthy colours we’ve seen popping up in interiors all over the place to
hero a single stunning shade – chocolate brown.

new black
No longer remembered as a 70’s fashion faux pas, it’s been named the
unofficial colour of Winter 2021 by Instagram’s street stylists – beloved
for its ability to layer up any style with its warm hues.

From the fashion world to your interiors, there’s no limit to the warmth
and softness that brown can bring to your palette.

Plus, with its natural grounding and tonal adaptability, you can pair brown
with light pinks and linens to suit minimal warm environments, or dial up
to match with velvets and maximalism. What more could you want?
