A Tail Celebration
By Belen Saravia 2nd grade
One little mermaid who lives in the sea decides to
celebrate her 8th birthday. She is so excited planning all the
celebration…she wants balloons, decorations, and a big cake!
Everything looks amazing but she has a big wish. The
wish is to have a brother to play with.
The big day arrives. The whole family meets to
celebrate her birthday including her mom and dad. So, it’s
                                     time!
                                        The little mermaid has
                                     to blow the candles and
                                     ask for her special wish.
                                        She asks for her wish
with great faith. Three days later her father has a big surprise
for her. They go to the hospital to meet her baby brother. She
is so happy because her wish had come true. Her little
                                     merfamily lived happily ever after.

                               A Girl Born Twice
By Heysell Garcia 4th grade

A long time ago there was a girl who was born twice, her name was Lola and let me tell
you her story. It all started like this:
There was a man named Jose and a woman named Alice who always wished to have a
baby together. Seven months later, Alice was pregnant! They were both surprised and happy that
the happiness made them cry for joy. When the baby girl was born, they actually did not like her
because she had two different colored eyes. They thought it was weird. So, they decided to hate
her.
Five years later the girl, whom her parents had named Lola, became their maid. They hit
her when they were upset, they cursed her, and treated her like she was not their daughter.
continuously told her that she stood up for herself and said, “Why do you do this to me? Why do
you hit me? I never did anything wrong to you. I hate you both just like you hate me!”
She grabbed her bag and ran away. On her way to school she began to think, “Was I rude
to them?” She kept walking and walking and walking until she noticed that she took the wrong
path. She tried to find her way out of the unknown place, until someone suddenly shot her from
behind. She was taken to the hospital.
Her parents were crying by her side when she awoke.

“We are sorry for being bad parents, please forgive us!” The parents continued with tears.
The doctor came and told them, “We are so sorry for your loss but there is nothing we
can do.”
The parents were so choked and started to remember all the mean things they had said to
her. Lola didn’t make it because of medical complications.
Three years later the parents had another
child, named Lily. Lily looked just like Lola.
When Lily was able to talk she said some words
which choked her parents. She said, “Are you
going to treat me bad again?”
Her parents said, “L-l-lola, is that you?”
                                                     She said “Yes, it’s me."
Her parents hugged her and said sorry to
her, for all of the mean things they had said to her.
The girl was confused. If they were so happy to
have her back, why were they crying. Her parents were confused as well. They wondered, “why
was she born twice?”
We still don’t know anything about this phenomenon…

                                 Having a Friend
By Stacy Perez 4th grade

I think that having a friend is good because you
can talk to your friend. He or she can be nice to you and
you can have a happy life with your friend, either boy or
girl. The friend can go to your home and you can visit her
or his home too.
Also you will not be alone if you have a friend to
be with. You can play together. You can share your
secrets. If you have a bad friend, leave them.
That’s why I think that having a friend is good for you, me, and the world. People should
have a friend who is nice and respectful, someone to have fun with.

moral of the story. The main theme of this particular book is
realistic fiction. In realistic fiction the characters do things
that can happen in real life. Some information about the

novels for children including the best-seller Wonder. Wonder was adapted into a movie in 2017.
She wrote Auggie and Me to share the impartance of being kind, tolerant, and accepting of all
people, especially those that are different from the normal.

In the first chapter titled “Julian” the reader gets a more personal view
on what Julian thinks about Auggie. If you have not read the first book then I
think you should read it because it gives you more details than the movie or
the book Wonder. It specifically gives you more details about why he was
mean to Auggie. I think that he has a very strong reason for not liking
Auggie, but he should have still been kinder. All in all this book was well-
written. I give it a 5/5 stars!
The second chapter titled “Pluto” gives a personal point of view of
Auggie’s life before “Wonder.” The chapter focuses on Auggie’s closest
friend Christopher. Christopher and Auggie were best friends since they were
babies up until Christopher’s family moved away. This chapter teaches the
reader about excellent friendship and how everyone should strive to be
excellent people and friends. I also give this chapter 5/5 stars!

I think that the people have to stop with the robots because not all of the people have
jobs. The robots are getting the jobs from the people. Also, it is not good for people because
people are not going to have money to live and buy food, homes, and more.

Also, I think that the robots are going to be good in some ways because people like the
advanced robots. They can help with hard jobs. Overall, robots take people’s jobs and make them
poor. I think that is the reason some people live in the streets. They can’t afford a home. They
don’t have money.

The Lost Treasure
                              By Gisell Bautista 4th grade
Bella loves her dog Hazel. They always go on walks together near the woods. Today was
like any other day, she sarted putting on her pink jacket and grabbing the leash. She told her
mom, “I’m taking Hazel on a walk.”
They both went outside and began walking on the trail. Bella and Hazel went past a tree
where Bella got distracted by a beautiful flower. She went down to look at it when Hazel heard
something coming from the woods. She started barking and ran towards the sound.
Bella got up and ran after Hazel. She ran and ran until she got Hazel back on the leash.
Bella turned around and couldn’t see the trail back home. They were lost. Bella saw a tree that
looked familiar and decided to walk that way.
As she kept walking the sun kept going down. It was getting darker and darker with each
step. There was still some light left when she spotted something sparkling on the ground. She got
curious and decided to go look at it even though it was almost completely dark.
When she moved the leaves aside she saw that it was a necklace. The necklace had the
letters “C.R.” Bella didn’t know what it meant but she liked the necklace. She decided to take it
with her so she placed it in her pocket. She continued
walking until she reached the trail, then ran back
home.
When she got home she showed her mom the
necklace she found and her mom started crying.
Bella was confused and asked her mom why she was
crying.
Bella’s mom told her the necklace belonged
to her mom.She had taken it out one time because
she liked the way it sparkled in the sun but she had
dropped it, never to be found…until now. Bella had
found her grandmother’s lost necklace. Her mom
told her to keep it and helped Bella clip the necklace.
Bella was happy to have found her grandma’s
necklace. It was the lost treasure that was now found.

                                By Denis Kim 4th grade
Once upon a time there were two kids, Denis and Andrew. They lived in a mansion and
loved to eat chocolate. One day a portal sucked them into chocolate land. Andrew and Denis felt
like the place was meant for them. There was a giant mansion with a chocolate fountain.
Everything in the mansion was made of caramel, white chocolate, and gummy chocolate.
        Andrew said, “Let’s start eating!”
Denis replied, “No because they will call the chocolate police.”

Andrew said, “Is there even such a thing as chocolate police?”
“There should be police because it’s a city.”
Andrew scrunched his eyebrows, he was annoyed. “Let’s just eat it!”
        “No.”
        “Fine.”
So they walked until they got hungry. They entered a pizza place called Hot and Ready.
They ordered the supreme: it had chocolate mushrooms, tomatos, meat, chicken, and the crusty
dough. After eating they went to register at a hotel. They rested and thought about how to return
to the normal world.
“I kinda like it her,” Andrew said.
Surprised, Denis said, “Are you crazy!?”

“No I just like it here.”
All of a sudden a portal opened and Felix fell in. He
said, “You guys are here too?!”
“Yeah!” they both said at the same time.
Feliex said, “We need to get out because it will be

Suddenly a voice said “Find the witch’s finger and a
                                          dimension stone.”
“Who are you?” they all said.
“I am a ghost. I used to be a human but I froze
                                          because of the winter.”
So all three friends went passed a swamp, into a
kitchen, and up some stairs. They slowly grabbed the
finger but Felix somehow activated an alarm and the
witch threw a bomb. They quickly dodged it and ran.
Next they had to get the dimension stone. They
were in a secret hide out when Emmanuel fell out of a portal.
“We’re all here!” they all yelled.
“I guess,”Emmanuel said as he looked around, “yeah.”
They secretly went and grabbed the dimension stone. They activated the portal and
returned home.

                                            Titanic
By Diego Espinoza 4th grade
This essay is going to tell you all you need to know about Titanic and why we can’t lift it.
On April 10, 1912 the most famous shipon the planet set sail from South Hampton,
England. It was the largest ship in the world. Titanic, however, was doomed. It would hit an
iceberg and sink four days after it departed.

                                Unicorns Literary Magazine 10
The Titanic was called “the unsinkable ship” because she could still float even if sixteen
compartments flooded. The hull was made of long steel plates. These plates were bolted into
place using over three million iron and steel rivets. The weight was over 46,000 tons. The length
was 882 feet or 270 meters. Its height was 175 feet or 53.34 meters. If you had seen the process
of building the ship you would think it impossible for the Titanic to sink. Jim Thompson, a
Titanic worker would agree.
A lot of people want to lift the Titanic. Some to recover the bodies of relatives, others for
its riches. However, we can’t lift the Titanic because over the years it has now created an
artificial reef. Another reason is that the ship is over a thousand feet deep and it is too heavy for
any machine to lift. Also the underwater bacteria has weakened the steel making it much more
difficult to salvage.

                                    The Hidden Door
By Andrew Zesati 4th grade
Once upon a time there was a family that lived in a small house. Only one person fit in
the house. The person that lived there was named Max. Max was 29 years old. He was always
looking around the house for space to put stuff in. He looked and looked for space but no such
luck. One day he went to the living room and found a spot that looked weird. It was on the floor.
Max tried to open it but it did not work, so he called someone to help. The person’s name
was Rosy. She brought a tool that looked weird and complicated. She placed it on the floor.
Suddenly the machine started making a loud noise. Rosy told Max that it looked like a secret
door and would have to remove a big piece of the floor.
Max was then able to climb down, all the way to the bottom and found a room full of
gold and money. Max gave Rosy one million dollars because she was able to open it. If she had
never opened it he would have never found the treasure. Max then bought a mansion and got all
his family to live there.

                                Unicorns Literary Magazine 11
Max gave some money to charities and homeless people. There were twenty-two people
in his family plus him. Max had three golden doors in his room. Two years later Max only had
$2,100 and had to get a small house in the woods, but this time the small house did not have a
living room, secret door, or bedroom. It did however have a front yard and something glowing in
the ground.
So he got a shovel and dug. There was a box, a golden box. There was fifty million
dollars inside it. This time Max only gave $1,000 to charities and homeless people. He did not
buy a mansion. He only bought a bigger house. The new house had a bathroom, a bedroom, a
living room, and a kitchen. Max only lived with one person.

stories, then this is the book for you. There are over

For instance, one tale is called The Bus Stop, which is
about Ed Cox and Joanna Finney meeting at a bus stop.
Ed gives Joanna a ride home and asks her on a date. The
next day, Ed drives to the bus stop where they met but
she's not there. He then drives to her home to ask for her.
Joanna's mother tells Ed she passed away, twenty years
ago. Looks like Ed Cox was talking to Joanna Finney's
                                      ghost the whole time!
I rate this book 10/10 because not only is this book
haunting, but the illustrations are just as intense and
                                      unique.
