Cardio Cycling (spinning) is riding indoor stationary bikes in an organized setting. This class begins
with a gentle warm up and gradually include simulation of going up and down hills, time intervals,
resistance, and cool down. Participants can make this class as easy or as difficult as they desire by
adjusting the resistance knobs. A variety of music is played for appropriate type of workout. Class size
limited to only 14 students. Instructor: Lisa Barno

ZRCW 1060 - Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art approximately 1,000 years old. It will be taught as an exercise
that promotes whole body health. It consists of a series of slow, graceful movements that combine
into what is known as the “form”. Tai Chi is practiced daily by millions of people all over the world.
People of all ages can benefit from daily practice. Instructor: Martha Lois
ZRCW 1084 - Qigong

Qigong (Chi Kung) consists of self-healing techniques that were developed in China thousands of years
ago. These healing practices combine the use of breathing, sound, movement and mind which, when
practiced daily, may prevent illness, strengthen organs and help one regain vitality after an illness.

Beginning golf emphasizes proper grip, stance, swing, proper club selection, shot making and

proper foot attire and much more! This class will partner with the Recreation Department to achieve
the 50 Mile Walk challenge. Equipment needed: Good walking shoes and a SMILE!

Aqua Zumba is a great way of enjoying Latin dance aerobics without the impact on joints and the back.
It is a fun-filled exercise class performed in the shallow end of the pool, integrating Latin dance steps
and aerobic exercise to Latin music! If you’ve ever taken a Zumba class and felt it was too challenging,

ZRCW 1006 - Aqua Jogging

Total body workout program plus shallow to deep water jogging with belts. Great exercise program for
those who have joint problems. You do not need to know how to swim to participate in this class.

This course is designed to provide cardiovascular exercises, muscle toning, strengthening, and
flexibility in the shallow water. Great way to work out if not comfortable in the deep water.

ZRCW 1151- Cardio/Strength Water Fitness

Get a full-body strength and cardio workout! This class will use a variety of equipment including
noodles, dumbbells and body weights to increase cardiovascular and muscular endurance. This class
will utilize both ends of the pool so you must be comfortable in deep water. This is a fun, energetic and
challenging class that can be adjusted for all fitness levels!

ZRCW 1087 - Deep Water Exercise

This course is designed to provide cardiovascular exercises, muscle toning, strengthening, and
flexibility in deep water. This is a great exercise program. If not comfortable in deep water, swim belts

Learn to Swim Program
These programs will follow the guidelines stated by the American Red Cross and taught by certified
instructors. Safe water skills are incorporated into each session.
ZRCW 1223 - Parent/Child Aquatics (Ages 6 months to 4 years)

Familiarize children between the ages of 6 months and approximately 4 years with the water and
teach swimming readiness skills. As parents, you learn how to safely work with your child in the water,
including how to appropriately support and hold your child in the water and how to prepare and
encourage your child to participate fully and try the skills. In addition, you are introduced to several
water safety topics. Your child receives an introduction to basic skills that lay a foundation for learning
to swim. Certain milestones for your child in this level include:
    • Learn more ways to enter and exit the water safely.
    • Retrieve objects below the surface and submerged objects with eyes opened.
    • Glide on the front and back with assistance.
    • Perform combined arm and leg actions on front and back with assistance.
    • Change body position in the water.
    • Experience wearing a life jacket in the water.
Only register your child. 30-minute class. Maximum of 15 students. Instructor: Lynn Bauerschmidt
ZRCW 1229 - Youth Swim Level 1 (Minimum age is 4 years old)

Orient participants to the aquatic environment and help them gain basic aquatic skills. Help
participants begin to develop positive attitudes and safe practices around the water. Certain
milestones are necessary for successful completion of Level 1, including:
    • Entering the water independently using the ramp, steps or side.
    • Traveling at least 5 yards, bobbing 5 times and then safely exiting the water.
    • Opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged object.
    • Gliding on front with assistance at least 2 body lengths.
    • Rolling to a back float for 5 seconds with assistance.
    • Recovering to a vertical position with assistance.
    • Combined arm and leg actions on front and back with assistance.
    • Alternating and simultaneous arm and leg actions on front and back with assistance.
Exit skill assessment. 45-minute class. Maximum of 10 students. Instructors: Lynn Bauerschmidt
ZRCW 1230 - Youth Swim Level 2

Build on the basic aquatic skills and water safety skills and concepts learned in level 1.
Some of the milestones that are necessary for successful completion of Level 2 include:
    • Stepping from the side into chest-deep water.
    • Fully submerging and holding breath.
    • Pushing off the bottom, moving into a treading or floating position for at least 15 seconds,
       swimming on front and/ or back for 5 body lengths and then exiting the water.
    • Moving into a back float for 15 seconds, rolling to front, then recovering to a vertical position.
    • Pushing off and swimming using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths,
       rolling to back, floating for 15 seconds, rolling to the front and then continue swimming for 5
       body lengths.
Successful demonstration of Learn-to-Swim Level 1 exit skill assessment required for this class.

ZRCW 1231 - Youth Swim Level 3

Build on the skills learned in levels 1 and 2 to help participants achieve basic water competency in a
pool environment. Some of the milestones in Level 3—Stroke Development include:
    • Flutter, scissors, breaststroke and dolphin kicks.
    • Jumping into deep water from the side, recovering to the surface, maintaining position by
       treading or floating for 1 minute, rotating a full turn and then turning as necessary to orient to
       the exit point.
    • Swimming the front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 25 yards and then exiting the
       water.
    • Pushing off in a streamlined position, swimming the front crawl for 15 yards, changing position
       and direction, swimming the elementary backstroke for 15 yards and then exiting the water.
    • Introduction of back crawl, breaststroke, side stroke and butterfly
Successful demonstration of Learn-to-Swim Level 2 exit skill assessment required for this class.

ZRCW 1232 - Youth Swim Levels 4 & 5

Improve participants’ proficiency in performing the swimming strokes for Level 3 and 4. Some of the
milestones that are necessary for successful completion of Level 4 include:
   • Swimming the front crawl for 25 yards.
   • Swimming the elementary backstroke for 25 yards.
   • Swimming the breaststroke for 15 yards.
   • Swimming the butterfly for 15 yards.
   • Swimming the back crawl for 15 yards.
   • Swimming the sidestroke for 15 yards.
   • Headfirst entry* from a stride position (*only if the water is at least 9-feet deep).
   • Open turns on the front and back.
Some of the milestones in Level 5—Stroke Refinement include:
   • Performing a shallow-angle dive into water at least 9-feet deep.
   • Performing a tuck and pike surface dive
   • Swimming the front crawl for 50 yards.
   • Swimming the elementary backstroke for 50 yards.
   • Swimming the sidestroke for 25 yards
   • Swimming the breaststroke for 25 yards.
   • Swimming the back crawl for 25 yards.
   • Swimming the butterfly for 25 yards
   • Front and back flip turns
Successful demonstration of Learn-to-Swim Level 3 exit skill assessment required for this class.

ZRCW 1224 - Adult Learn to Swim

This class is designed to provide instruction for older students who want to learn swimming basics,
stroke and skill development, and stroke and skill refinement. This course is geared for students, 16
or older, at any level to learn and practice swimming skills. This is a great exercise program. The
instructor will work with students at his or her level. Instructor: Lynn Bauerschmidt
Private Lessons
          All private lesson days/times are arranged after registration with Recreation Office
             at 216/987-5456, and must be completed between 1/21-3/8 and 3/16-5/3.

 **Personal Training and Swimming are to be scheduled during Open Recreation Hours for the Pool,
  Gymnasium, and Fitness Center. A valid Tri-C ID is required for access to the recreation facilities
                                         during lessons.
Private Lesson: Wellness Coaching
This is a one-on-one session with a certified wellness coach who works with you to create a wellness
vision of how you want to be – your best self. Then through conversation and planning long term and
short term goals are set. During the weekly 60-minute sessions the goals are reviewed and new ones
are set to keep you moving forward in health and wellness; initial meeting is 90 minutes. This is NOT
personal training but coaching to support healthy behavior change.

Private Lesson: Adapted Aquatics**
Warm water provides a venue for relaxation, therapy, socialization and a foundation for learning to
swim for children with special needs. Our method of teaching is student-centered, not instructor
based. Instructors will create methods to enhance learning through the use of routine (patterned
learning) and visual aids. Instructor: Lynn Bauerschmidt

Cuyahoga Community College Cancellation & Refund Policy
Cancellations: You will be contacted by the Recreation Department if a class has been cancelled.
Please make certain that, when registering, you include your current phone number or email address.
Refunds: Please contact the Continuing Education Department at (216) 987-3075 if you wish to
withdraw from a class. You will receive a 100% refund, minus the 2.4% non-refundable service charge,
if the college cancels a course or you withdraw one or more weeks before the class starts. An 80%
refund, minus the 2.4% non-refundable service charge, applies if you withdraw after the first class and
before the second class. No refund applies after the second class session.
                                       Community Membership
The Community Membership Program is only available at the Metropolitan, Eastern, and Western
Campuses. The membership gains you access to resources along with discounts on services and
events, including the Recreation Centers. Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable, and
members must be 18 years of age or older to enroll, and they must present their IDs to obtain
discounts. The membership can be purchased for $100 annually at the Metropolitan, Eastern, and
Western Campus Enrollment Centers.
                                             Program 60
Through program 60, residents of Ohio aged 60 and older may register for regularly scheduled credit
and non-credit classes on a non-credit, tuition-free, space-available basis.
                            Please Note: Program 60 does not apply to Private Lessons.
        Program 60 must register via phone or in-person; online registration is not available.
