The older gentleman was standing tall like he was passing inspection. It is times like this that being a member of the LOH makes you feel wonderful and puts quite a lump in your throat, but it really adds spring in your own step and makes you proud to serve Kerbela. For those who cannot march; we have a trailer for them to ride in parades. Those that ride the trailer do not need to be in uniform. Just the presence of the veteran military Shriners is what the world needs to see to tell them that we continue to serve. It will be wonderful to be able to parade without the fear of the virus. Maybe by next spring things will settle down. That will give us time to outfit and brief new members on our procedures for parades. Thanks to the Temple there are now eight country flags in the audito- rium (Shrine International countries.) It would be wonderful if the LOH had enough members to Post them all for our Annual meeting or the first meeting in Jan. Kerbela Knews December 2020 UNIT NEWS Page 7 Vintage Wheels Since the parade in Loudon County on July 4th, the pandemic has caused the Vintage Wheels to sit idle. Halloween fueled our spirits and got our engines started again. The day started when the Vintage Wheels arrived at Fulton High School for a student body trunk or treat. We took 500 pieces of candy which was mostly distributed. All the costumes re- flected the spirit of Halloween although the ego of the student in the shark outfit seemed somewhat inflated. The Vin- tage Wheels were costumed as Kerbela Shriners and the Vintage Wheels logo displayed on several of the cars. The most disturbing part of the event was when Allen Mayes came up short in the eyes of the law. It was then on to Melton Lake Park where Amaranth was co-hosting a car show as a fund raiser for the cure for diabetes. This was the second year the car show was held and somewhere around 200 cars paid the entry fee to be judged. Finally, several members of the Unit went on to the Kerbela Steak Cook Off. Hot wings and short ribs were being given away by one of the contestants. Another contestant had already won over $100,000 in a steak cook off cham- pionship and was willing to share many of his secrets on being successful in such competitions. Decorations on the entrees for the ancillary margarita com- petition included skeletons, bouquets and pumpkin heads with blinking lights. It is uncertain whether or not such decora- tions appeared before or as apparitions after the judges had sampled the drinks that were entered. The end of the year parade season will soon be upon us and Unit members are looking forward to parading. If any Noble wants to ride along with us in a parade or wants to become a member of the Unit, please feel free to let us know. Carl Eshbaugh Captain
