Welcome to
children’s week
Children’s Week is a celebration of children, and what better
way to do that than have a whole week packed full of fun events
especially designed for children and families to enjoy.

I’m absolutely thrilled to be helping to introduce this Children’s
Week Activity Guide, which lists lots of events, including online
and at-home activities, occurring around Tasmania in honour of
National Children’s Week. This week of festivities is especially
important in 2020, when so many activities for children have
been impacted by COVID-19.

This year’s theme for Children’s Week is particularly relevant as
it celebrates the right of children to choose their own friends and
safely connect with others. This year has really highlighted for so
many of us, especially children, the importance of having friends
and keeping connected with them safely, even when barriers like
social distancing are put in our way.

So, check out this guide and see which activities spark your
interest. There’s something in here for everyone and it’s all
about having fun, playing and connecting with our friends while
celebrating Tasmania’s children.

                    Leanne McLean

CHILDREN’S WEEK THEME 2020
                      “Children have the right
                       to choose their own
                       friends and safely
                       connect with others.”

    A GOOD FRIEND
 PICKS YOU UP WHEN
  YOU FALL, MAKES
YOU LAUGH AND STAYS
   WITH YOU WHEN
     YOU ARE SAD
                      Children’s Week 2020 looks a
little different this year with a
                      focus on smaller, local activities
                      and events. Playgroup Tasmania
                      wishes to thank Housing Choices
                      Tasmania and the Children’s
                      Week Working Groups for
                      their support in developing and
                      publishing this guide. Without
                      this support, Children’s Week
                      celebrations in Tasmania would
                      not be possible.
