Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): A very back end show of Store Cattle
which generally sold to full value from a small but enthusiastic audience. Angus
x cattle as always well sought after topping at £1090 from Andrew Staveley, The
Hill. A pen of younger beef bred steers from Stephen Taylor of Botton Head
looking well sold at £895. The sale topped at £1190 for a 3/4 Lim x heifer from
Thornton Hall, David Ellison of Dent selling a Lim x heifer to £1130 and Blonde x
to £1090. Steers topped at £1060 for an over-age BBx from Stephen Brennand.
The best of the B + Ws at £960 from TH Wensley & Son. A complete clearance
with most cattle heading East to Yorkshire.

Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): Another big entry of Feeding
& Cast Cows typical for the time of year including some very lean and
weathered cattle. Well fleshed cows still good to sell, best of the
dairy bred cows topping at £1132 (138p/kg) for a Fleckvieh x from
Holme Head and generally 120p/kg-125p/kg for the best B + Ws.
Duncan Robinson selling an over-age heifer for 144p/kg. Beef bred
cows mainly requiring further feeding, the best from John Bracewell
of Bacup for a smart young Charolais cow at 173p/kg (£1072) and a
Lim x at 157p/kg (£1028). Otherwise beef bred cows generally 100-
130p/kg depending on age and quality. Underage heifers to 168p/kg
for a Simmental x from Docker Farm.

Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): Demand for calves remains strong for the time
of year, with buyers from both the East and West coasts competing for the 94 calves on
offer. Best of the continentals came from Roeburndale, with Stephen Wright showing a trio
of Lim bulls selling to £425 twice and £360. Blue bulls hit a high of £400 on three occasions,
firstly from Simon Coultherd, Clapham with a sweet 4week old calf, whilst a couple of
stronger sorts from Mike Packham, Kendal realised the same. Other blue bulls £365-£395,
mediums £260-£305 with a few small and younger sorts either side of £220. No real out
and out heifers, the best to £310 from Andrew Booth, Austwick, with most others £230-
£270. Native calves in nice demand, it was a stonking Angus bull at 6 weeks from Ken
Polkinghorne which shot to £410, topping the section, others £300+, with the next bracket
either side of £220. Hereford bulls £245-£275 dependant on size, topping at £300 from
HH&MG Robinson, Slaidburn. Both Angus & Hereford Heifers generally £160-£200. Plenty
of Fleckvieh and Montbelliarde bulls on offer, a run of stronger Fleckviehss from Will
Robinson sold to £330, whilst the sweeter end peaked at £260 from Steve Hodgson,
Ulverston. Montbelliardes to £195 from Chris Booth, Wigglesworth. Black and whites met
strong demand, with the strongest to £145 from Andy Wallbank, Arkholme, plenty of
rearers £85-£105, with the next draw £60-£75, averaging £77.

  Please note the later start time of 12noon for
   calves next week, due to the large entry of
     Dairy cows & Young stock anticipated.

Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): A good entry of cast ewes and more
customers ringside creating a strong and competitive trade. Horned ewes
similar trade to last week but all other classes showing improvement.
Continental & Suffolk x ewes with any strength topping the £100 mark, the
better end £110-£120 with an 84kg purebred from John Kelsall the highest
price at £131.50. Heavy Mules in the £80s with medium fleshy types £70-£80.
Best of the Horned ewes £50-£60, the best of the Swales at £73.50 from David
Lawson, Parr Bank. More ewes required to satisfy demand.

                  DEADWEIGHT SALES OPTION
 We are continuing to partner with Dunbia to offer a weekly
 collection for deadweight lambs allowing vendors to market
    their lambs whilst under restrictions of the 6 day rule.

Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): As predicted, there was keen demand for all classes of
lambs, particularly lighter weights. Best lambs good to sell and consistently 250-280p/kg with
Frank Joel topping at 291.3p and other notable runs from Andrew Foy and James Fishwick. Export
lambs 215-225p/kg. Mule lambs either side of £2/kilo topping at £107.50 for 59kg from John
Casson. Horned lambs generally 180-190p/kg. A bigger entry than last week with more customers
ringside and plenty of competition. Belly clipping being requested as ground conditions are now
causing dirty fleeces etc.
COVID-19 UPDATE
    Under new guidance from the LAA, the
     following protocols are now in place:
   Drop & Go Policy to be reinstated for all vendors
   Strict Social Distancing to be maintained (minimum of
    2 metres). The wearing of face coverings is NOT a
    substitute for the need to maintain Social Distancing
    at all times.
   Face coverings must be worn by everyone attending
    the site, at all times (this includes market staff) –
    exemptions are permitted for anyone with a medical
    condition that allows a face covering not to be worn.
   Attendance at markets MUST be restricted to those
    conducting business and only 1 buyer per business is
    permitted to enter the site
   Buyers must sign in on arrival outside the sale ring.
   Sale Day payments will not be possible but cheques
    and BACS statements will be posted out as normal on
    Fridays.
