Did you know……
Netball was invented in 1895 in England a few years after basketball. Because
of their clothing, the rules of basketball were changed to suit women!
We think this is the first Plett
Primary School situated on
Odlands. This photo was possibly
taken in the 1970’s.

As proud Pletties, we were very
pleased to be able to support this
year’s Slipper Day on Friday 7th
May 2021. It is Reach For A
Dream’s most celebrated
fundraiser.
Last year Slipper Day had to be
postponed due to COVID-19 and as
a result, has had a devastating
effect on the foundation as a whole.
During the hard lockdown, all dream
activities had to be put on hold
leaving their dreamers more
vulnerable and isolated than ever
before, waiting for their dreams to
come true.
We are so grateful to have supported
this special initiative. So, thank you
to all Slipper Day supporters!
Love is in the Air!
We would like to congratulate
Mrs & Mr Olivier on their
marriage! What a beautiful
couple they are and an amazing
day was had by all who
celebrated their wedding with
them! We wish you more love
and happiness than you can
imagine!

We love to
see how
our Grade
1s are
learning!
It is so
wonderful to see
how our Grade
1s love to learn.
They have been
learning about
family. This
issue we have
taken a few
pictures from
Mrs Edwards’
Gr1 class. The
learners had to
copy the words
“My family likes
to” and add a
sentence and
drawing of what
their family
likes to do.

Carrying on with the theme of
“MY FAMILY” Mrs Edward’s class
drew the most beautiful pictures of
their families. Here are a few to
show off!

10From The Office
Mr Koekemoer would like to share the following article with you – it is so important that
parents and learners alike are aware of the dangers of cyber bullying.
The constant need for e-learning as a means of curriculum
delivery, is forcing children to spend more time on online
platforms. As they engage with the work, study groups and
class groups are formed. In more than 80% of the cases where
the groups are not monitored by an adult/parent/teacher, it
leads to cyber bullying. Cyber bullying has been defined “as
the use of the internet or other digital communication devices
to insult or threaten someone”.
The following are different forms of cyber bullying:
Denigration: “Dissing” someone online. Sharing gossip or posting rumours
about a person to damage his or her reputation or friendships.
Impersonation: Pretending to be someone else and sending or posting material
to get that person in trouble or danger or to damage the
person’s reputation or friendships.
Outing: Sharing someone’s secrets or embarrassing information or
images online.
Trickery: Talking someone into revealing secrets or embarrassing
information or images online.
Exclusion: Intentionally and cruelly excluding someone from an online
group.
Harassment: Repeatedly sending nasty, mean, and insulting messages.
Flaming: Online fights using electronic messages with angry and vulgar
language.
Parents must take responsibility for all communication on a child’s cell phone.
Parents can be held legally responsible for any message a child of 14 years or
younger sends or publishes. The parent is the contract holder of the device and is
therefore liable for the actions of their child. It is important to discuss the use of
cellular phones and mobile devices and create boundaries around the use of
these. Also discuss the values around respect of property,
consequences of taking and sharing inappropriate information
and content and teach your children about the images they
create online by using their cellular phone and that there are
consequences to their actions.
Children should be guided to use cellular phones and mobile
devices in a respectful and responsible, value driven way and
understand that it is a privilege and not a right. They should
avoid becoming involved in risky or unlawful acts or behaviourPlettenberg Bay Primary SCOOP JUNE 2021
