From small beginnings

B     ayleys has come a long way since it
      began operations in 1973 with a staff
of just three – the late Graham and Pam
Bayley and their son John – operating
out of the family residence in Pakuranga
in Auckland. A career change in the mid
1960s, when Graham decided on a switch
into real estate after more than 20 years of
farming, proved to be a fortuitous one for

From generation to generation
Following a period working for a Hamilton
real estate agency where Graham was
joined by John (then in his early 20s). Father
and son decided to establish their own
agency focused on the rapidly growing
South Auckland market.

In those days, Graham and John were the
company’s sole salespeople, and Pam

was financial controller, receptionist, and
administration manager. Almost 40 years
on, all of Graham and Pam’s children now
work for the business.

John Bayley is chairman of the board

David Bayley joined the company in the
mid 1970s and is principal shareholder with

               As the general manager of Bayleys Realty Group, Greg Hornblow is responsible for
               ensuring the various ‘pistons’ within the BRG engine are firing simultaneously and at full
               bore, as well as looking at new opportunities in developing the support network which will
               ultimately underpin the success of the front-line sales people.

               Bayleys Realty Group is essentially a service company - providing operational resources to
               a franchise network throughout New Zealand and Fiji. These services include recruitment,
               training, marketing, event management, research, public relations/communications
               and auctions.

               Before joining Bayleys, Greg was the general manager of sales for the New Zealand
               Herald and the Herald On Sunday. A self-confessed ‘sports-nut’, Greg is married with two

            Bayleys has clear and documented

            To maintain a strong visual presence in the

            To streamline the development of quality

               Shayne is a trainer, a mentor, and above all, a dynamic force who has taken sales training
               at Bayleys to the next level - introducing a personalised ‘training–on-demand’ feature to
               training our salespeople via the internet.

               Shayne has been involved in selling since he was a youngster – from selling fruit picked
               from his neighbour’s tree to travelling the world for 20 years as a self-employed commission
               based salesperson before finally settling down at Bayleys.

               Shayne is now in his seventh year at Bayleys and in that time he has written and produced
               more than 50 workshops on sales and marketing, motivation, customer communications,
               and creativity. Shayne’s focus has now shifted to capture the spirit, humour and knowledge
               Bayleys generates.

               This personalised training system empowers Bayleys salespeople to strive for excellence
               in the selling world as they now have the tools available to them to make it happen – and a
               resource if they need to brush up on their operational skills.

               Jess Cattroll is executive training co-ordinator for Bayleys Realty Group and handles all
               training-related queries from managers and agents across the Bayleys’ network.

               Among her myriad of tasks, Jess provides administrative support to national training
               manager, Shayne Thompson, oversees the Bayleys Property College online learning
               management system - ecampus, and organises/co-ordinates workshops and other
               training events.

               Bringing to the role wide administrative, customer service and training support skills honed
               both in New Zealand and overseas, Jess is committed to assisting Bayleys’ people to take
               best advantage of the broad range of training resources available through the Property
               College.

               Her savvy technological skills and approachable nature enable her to demystify on-
               going education opportunities for agents and managers as they seek to satisfy training
               requirements as prescribed by the Real Estate Agents Authority.

              The division is headed up by Carol Henry who is the first point of

              throughout New Zealand.

              Carol is available to support Bayleys’ managers nationwide with filling
              their vacancies - assisting with the entire recruitment process – from
              the writing and placement of vacancy advertising in a variety of media,
              through to the interviewing and selection process.

              Carol is responsible for the annual ‘Bayleys Working Scholarship’
              recruitment programme nationwide, and overseeing the advertising,
              processing and selection of applicants.
