Welcome to the Year of Indigenous Tourism
The Year of Indigenous Tourism in Queensland has officially kicked off, with a range of
support available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism businesses to further
develop their experiences and grow their business.

This includes the newly launched Indigenous Innovation and Entrepreneurs Program, a
new dedicated Indigenous Tourism Development Service, a Growing Indigenous Tourism
in Queensland Fund and development of an Indigenous tourism strategy for South East
Queensland.

Tourism businesses around the state can get involved with the Year of Indigenous
Tourism by promoting Indigenous experiences that visitors can explore in their region.

New funding for regional events
Queensland’s event organisers are invited to apply for funding support from TEQ for
marketing costs, strategic plan development, engagement of short-term specialised
personnel and hire of temporary infrastructure.

The Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP) seeks to leverage the crucial link
between events and the destinations in which they are staged, extending the flow of the
economic, marketing and social benefits of events throughout metropolitan and regional
Queensland.

Round 15 funding for events being held from September 2020 - September 2021 is now
open for applications, closing 5 February 2020.

An update from TEQ on the bushfires
TEQ continues to work closely with Tourism Australia, other State Tourism Organisations
and all of Queensland’s Regional Tourism Organisations to monitor Australia’s bushfire
situation and provide accurate updates to trade partners and consumers around the
globe. Queensland has been fortunate to remain largely unaffected by the current
bushfires and, while remaining sensitive to the ongoing emergency situation, our global
marketing has continued mostly unchanged.

In North America, a major campaign expected to reach 26 million people has launched
this week, while in Europe a joint campaign with Singapore Airlines (pictured above) has
also kicked off among other campaigns across international markets. In the domestic
market, campaign activity has been gradually switched back on after a pause during the
height of the crisis.

Tourism operators can share Tourism Australia’s official travel advice with their guests,
including details on which areas are/are not affected by bushfires across the country.
TEQ has also prepared this handy blog you can share with your customers welcoming
people to visit Australia, with tips on how they can help Australia's wildlife.
