ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
This activity is designed for pharmacists in all practice settings. Pharmacists can receive up to 8.5
contact hours of live continuing pharmacy education (CPE) virtually via Zoom. There are up to 4
contact hours of live CPE available on November 8, and 4.5 contact hours of live CPE available on
November 15. The sessions will focus on COVID-19, drug diversion, precepting, immunizations,
and pharmacy law focusing on federal and state updates.

ACCREDITATION
          The West Virginia University School of Pharmacy (WVUSoP) is accredited by the
          Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing
          pharmacy education. This activity is accredited up to a total of 8.5 contact hours, or 0.85
CEUs, for pharmacists. WVUSoP will report your participation in the activity to NABP CPE Monitor
within 4-6 weeks for all participants who successfully complete each activity. Successful
completion includes attending the entire activity, completing the post-test, and completing an online
evaluation form for each activity attended. Transcripts of CPE can be printed from NABP CPE
Monitor and from https://pharmacyce.wvu.edu/user/login.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of the activity, the participants will be able to:

Town Hall on COVID-19 with the WV Coronavirus Czar (Knowledge-Based)
      Give an overview on West Virginia’s (WV) coronavirus task force organization and functions.
      Discuss some specific reasons for COVID-19 community spread in hotspots of WV.
      Identify processes for patient triage and contact tracing of COVID-19.
      Discuss pharmacists’ role in prevention, testing, and treatment of COVID-19.
      Discuss issues of well-being and resilience for health care professionals in the context of the pandemic.

NASPA – NMA Student Pharmacist Self-Care Championship (Knowledge-Based)
        Identify and explain aspects of the effective and safe practice of pharmacy self-care treatments.
        Describe at least two over the counter and prescription medication interactions that pharmacists should be aware of.
        List three OTC medications and their use. Pharmacists should identify counseling points for each of three OTC
         medications.

Appalachian Addiction, Pain, and Diversion (Knowledge-Based)
      Discuss what comprises drug diversion, including West Virginia statistics on prescription drug abuse and resulting deaths.
      State the epidemiology of chronic pain and misuse of opioids.
      Describe the indicators for opioids in chronic pain treatment including general characteristics, toxicities and drug
       interactions.
      Outline patient evaluation and risk assessment and tools to assess risk and monitor benefits.
      Explain the initiation and ongoing management of chronic pain in patients treated with opioid-based therapies.
      Discuss a case study of a patient with chronic pain.
      Identify diversion and drug seeking behaviors and tactics.
      State best practice methods for working with patients, prescribers and law enforcement concerning patients suspected of
       drug seeking behavior and diversion.
      Give examples of compliance with controlled substances laws.
      Identify registration with and use of the West Virginia Controlled Substances Monitoring Program established in West
       Virginia Code 60-A-91.

EPAs for New Pharmacy Graduates: Addressing the Key Assumptions for Success (Knowledge-Based)
      Identify the use, application, and implementation of EPAs in pharmacy education.
      Discuss the three key assumptions for EPA success (professionalism, communication, and self-awareness) that apply
       across all core domain statements and supporting tasks.
      Identify situations in which challenges in professionalism, communication, and self-awareness impact overall learner
       performance.
      Develop strategies for the effective management of learners with professionalism, communication, and/or self-awareness
       challenges.
      Prepare preceptors for the assessment of professionalism, communication, and/or self-awareness outcomes.

Covid-19 Vaccines: What Can West Virginia Pharmacies Do Now to Prepare? (Knowledge-Based)
       Identify common myths about the vaccines for COVID-19.
       Discuss the latest information about COVID-19 vaccines that pharmacists should know.
       Describe key reference sources for pharmacists to use in practice.
       Discuss planning for implementation of COVID-19 vaccination efforts in your pharmacy.

Be Wise and Immunize – 2020 Immunization Update (Application-Based)
      Analyze current immunization rates in WV and discuss strategies for improvement.
      Assess the CDC pediatric vaccine schedule and WV laws regarding pediatric immunizations.
      Discuss considerations for immunizing pediatric patients and appropriate immunization technique.

Pharmacy Law at the State and Federal Level: Where Are We and What's to Come? (Knowledge-Based)
      Identify federal pharmacy law being implemented and under discussion in the upcoming Congress.
      Discuss WV recent law changes and implementation.
      Discuss the U.S. Supreme Court Case Rutledge v. Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) and its
       potential impact on the pharmacy industry.

At the completion of the activity, you will be provided with the access code to complete the post-
test and evaluation. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the post-test. One retake of the

Continuing Education Learning Management System to log in and complete the post-test and
evaluation. If you do not have an existing account, instructions for creating an account can be
