It is our pleasure to present the WCL PFA Enrichment Program for Fall 2020, now for Middle School Students!
We have made every effort to offer a good variety of classes as this is our first year offering enrichments to
Middle School Students and offering virtual only options given the current climate. Students can explore
and learn **VIRTUALLY** in small, friendly groups, under expert guidance, for a reasonable fee. The WCL
PFA Enrichment Program is meant to be fun and a way to involve parents. This is a PFA program that, with
the help of parent volunteers, gives children an opportunity to try new classes. As this is a unique Fall School
Year, we are offering Virtual Only programs to help to continue to engage and enrich students during this
unprecedented time. The only requirement is the desire to participate. We hope that you are as enthusiastic
as we are about this year’s program. Please let us know if you have a request for a class as we are always
looking for new programs to offer.

Registration
Online registration for the Winter enrichment session will begin on Sunday, December 13th at 6:30pm
promptly. If this registration time is an issue, then we advise you to have a family member or friend register
for you. Class space is limited, and classes are filled on a first come/first served basis. Registration will close
on Sunday, December 20th. Classes will start on the week of January 11th. There will be links for each
class. Classes can fill up quickly. If you would like to be put on a waitlist for a filled class, then please
contact the designated enrichment chair for that class. During the week leading up to the start of class, you
will receive the chaperone schedule and classroom assignment from the volunteer coordinator for that
class.

Refund Policy

If the PFA needs to cancel a class for any reason, you will be issued a full refund. If you should need to
cancel your child's registration, the amount that you will be refunded will depend on when you notify one
of the Enrichment Chairs.
Cancellations received:
• 3 or more days prior to class start date will receive a full refund, minus the credit card fees.
• Less than 3 days before the start of class, or after the first class, will receive a 75% refund, minus the
credit card fees.
• There are no refunds after the first week of classes or for missed classes. Classes missed due to snow
days and other school cancellations will be made up if possible.
Behavior Policy
Appropriate behavior is expected for all the students, to ensure a positive experience for the entire class.
Children are expected to listen to the instructor, be respectful of other students and participate in activities.
If any child is disrupting the class and does not respond to a request to change behavior, he or she will be
asked to sign off from the class and we will contact the parents to discuss the situation. If the situation
cannot be remedied, we will ask the student in question to withdraw from the class or be chaperoned each
week by his or her parent.

Arrival and Departure
All students should sign onto their respective virtual class platform on time so that there is no delay on
starting class.

For dismissal, please have your child exit the virtual class upon the instructor direction to do so.

Absences
Please email the Enrichment chairs, Maria Svecak Malia516@aol.com or Sabreena Karim
sabreena.karim@gmail.com if your child will be absent from class, so they can inform the instructor.

Chaperone Policy
Given that this is a Virtual Only Enrichments Program, we will not require chaperones this semester.

Enrichment Class Coordinators
This is an easy way to help that really does not require much work! As we are protecting the privacy of
the parents and students, we need someone to serve as a liaison between the parents and instructors to:
communicate any technical issues, share any student absences, inform the Enrichments Chairs of behavior
issues, etc., all via email. You will also be required to send out a weekly reminder of the upcoming
materials needed for that week’s assigned project to the parents.

In order to run the enrichment classes, we will need one class coordinator for each class. As such, please
consider signing up to be a Class Coordinator for your child’s enrichment class.

The good news is that since we have all become pros at Zoom now, we should be in good shape and it could
require little to no work. This is a great opportunity for parents who want to get involved but have limited
time to commit. Plus, you will be 100% supported by the enrichment chairs should any problems arise.

Important Information
Please note your child will need a tablet/computer/laptop, an internet connection, and (in most cases) the
Zoom App or another video-based platform to join these Enrichment classes. Note that this is our first
time doing Virtual Enrichments so we will work through any issues as they arise. Feedback is always
welcome.
Class Schedule
**You will be required to read and agree to the program policies in order to
register your children in the enrichment program**

         Engineering Discovery & Explorer Class
During the Discovery class, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, race, and
refine a variety of projects they can make at home during the club session. They may build their own
electro-magnets and explore and refine a variety of machines and mechanical systems. Students will learn
the basics of structural mechanics, simple machines, and other design and engineering concepts while
possibly constructing lava lamps, simple rockets, roller coasters, and other fun creations. Most items you
hopefully will have at home, but you may need to occasionally go to the dollar store for a few things. We
will provide an itemized list for each week's projects so you can collect them as needed for each week.

ONLINE FORMAT: Team Makers will use ZOOM.

MATERIALS: Team Makers will create kits of all the materials the kids will
need for the 8 weeks. The Kits will be made available for pickup
                                 at a local location (TBD).

play together in a team-like atmosphere, motivating and encouraging each other to practice and perform.
