COVID-19 Response

Executive Summary:
Governor DeWine-
Curfew- Thanks to a sustained decrease in COVID hospitalizations, Ohio’s curfew has been lifted. If
hospitalizations begin rising again, ODH may reinstate it. Its crucial that we all continue safety
protocols to slow the spread and prevent hospitalizations from going up. Hospitalizations continue
going down, and we believe a big reason for this is that those in our nursing homes have been
vaccinated. Over 50% of Ohio COVID deaths have been of our most vulnerable citizens in our nursing
homes. That’s why we made the decision to get them vaccinated ASAP. The strategy is working. The
number of COVID cases in nursing homes has dropped dramatically.
Next week, Ohioans with certain conditions they were born with or those who were diagnosed in
childhood and carried into adulthood will be able to begin receiving vaccines. Individuals with these
conditions face a significantly higher risk for adverse COVID outcomes. As a part of the commitment to
reduce the number of lives lost to COVID, ODH and healthcare providers have been directed to
prioritize people with developmental disabilities and severe medical conditions for vaccination. Today
we estimate that over 12,0000 individuals in this category have been vaccinated. We will continue to
work with local partners to ensure this population has access to the vaccine. Directed ODH to prioritize
those with developmental disabilities. High risk group. Incredible planning and collaboration to ensure
this access. 12,000 of these individuals have been vaccinated, very happy about this. Continue our
work with local partners to ensure the rest of those in this group are contacted and served with vaccine
doses. Work in process. Next week- certain conditions outlined will be able to receive vaccine.

Schools- currently in person 48.8%, partial in person 38.7%, full remote 12.5%. Moving in the right
direction. The goal remains to have these kids in school March 1st. School staff across the state are
currently being vaccinated.
Federal Prescription program: 35,800 additional doses total coming into Ohio from this program. This
week in total Ohio received 214,525 first doses. Next week we will see similar numbers- 223,025 first
doses. This week we are seeing Rite Aid add 164 stores as vaccination sites and Kroger add 194
stores in Ohio for the federal program. The state is also adding next week 17 new pharmacies as
providers.

Yesterday ODH announced that there was an reconciliation issue with their death data. During the coming week, you’ll see an increase in these numbers as they work through the process. For today, approximately 650 of these deaths are from the reconciliation that is ongoing. The department expects this process to be resolved by next week. Lt. Gov Husted- Today we are celebrating International day of women and girls in science. Today we recognize the women who have chosen a career in science. The pandemic has proven just how valuable of a career path it is, and we thank all those who have stepped up in the fight against the virus. We have reached the 5000-mark for graduates of the Ohio apprenticeship program. We have one of the most powerful apprentice programs in the country. Apprenticeship.ohio.gov. There are 19,578 Ohioans currently in the program, earning while they learn in traditional fields like construction and manufacturing and non-traditional apprenticeship fields like IT and healthcare. Unemployment: Ohio saw 140,444 initial applications for unemployment compensation last week – a development the Department of Job and Family Services views as likely linked to fraudulent activity. The total of new claims filed during the week ended Saturday represents a 194% increase from the prior week. The agency said all new claims will be reviewed, which will lead to delays in processing some legitimate applications. “ODFJS is investigating all claims that were flagged for potential fraud and taking steps to implement more robust identity verification in the traditional unemployment program. Identity theft and fraudulent unemployment claims are a widespread national challenge,” the department said in a statement. PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY SYSTEM: The Public Health Advisory System map has been updated, however, there is no change from the past two weeks. The state is red, with the exception of Gallia, Hocking, Monroe, and Vinton counties, which remain at orange. TRAVEL ADVISORY: There are five states on the latest Ohio travel advisory. Ohio recommends against traveling to the following states: Iowa; Idaho; Kansas; South Dakota; and Mississippi. Coordinate the county’s response to limit spread of COVID-19; and maintain medical care. 2. Provide timely, clear, and consistent messaging to the public, stakeholders and media on the status of COVID-19 and actions the public can take to keep themselves safe. 3. Determine how county agencies will continue delivery of essential services to Wood County residents while following COVID-19 public health guidelines. 4. 5. Support vaccination efforts through communication and coordination of partner resources.
EMA:
• The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and CYBER.ORG jointly
announced a cyber safety video series to help those learning or working online take proactive
steps to protect themselves and their business. CYBER.ORG is a cybersecurity workforce
development organization that targets K-12 students with cyber career awareness, curricular
resources, and teacher professional development. However, the cyber safety video series aims
to deliver relevant cybersecurity topics in a series of short videos that are appropriate for all
citizens, not just K-12 educational institutions.

• Do you want to volunteer? The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of
volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities. MRC
volunteers include medical and public health professionals, as well as other community

Public Health:

• COVID-19 vaccines continue to be in short supply everywhere.
o Wood County Health Department and its partners are working together to ensure that all people
who are currently eligible have opportunities to be vaccinated.
o Wood County has distributed 100 percent of the doses it’s received within one week, each week
since Ohio’s Phase 1B began.
▪ We are committed to distributing vaccines as quickly as we receive them, and we are ready
for the time when supply increases.
o WCHD appointments may be limited during February as school personnel are vaccinated and
we perform targeted outreach to vulnerable people who are at the greatest risk for severe
illness.
o Other providers in Wood County will continue to offer appointments to eligible individuals in the
general public.
▪ Some local providers, like Mercy Health and Wood County Hospital, are making their
appointments available starting at noon on Fridays.
▪ Others, including pharmacies, may handle scheduling and registration differently.

⚫ Page 3o We continue to appreciate the widespread interest in being vaccinated and recognize the
frustration related to having many fewer vaccines needed to serve everyone who wants to be
vaccinated.
• We’re working to expand our communication with new ways for people to get information about
vaccine availability.
o Later this week, we’ll launch a phone message system that will allow people to call in to receive
updates on the vaccine campaign.

BGSU:
• Over the last several weeks, COVID-19 cases have progressively decreased in our
campus community. This is a reflection of our students, faculty and staff who continue to
do their part to lower their risk level, and we thank you for your commitment to keeping
our campuses safe and healthy. This week’s numbers show another drop in cases, as
compared to the prior week, outlined in this email and on the Forward Falcons website.
• Because of the lowered cases, we were able to reinstate the COVID-19 Guest Policy,
just as we did in the fall. On-campus residents are now permitted a maximum of one
guest inside their residence hall room. We will continue to work with our partners in
public health to monitor case trends to inform future decision-making throughout the
spring semester, prioritizing your health and safety while keeping your BGSU
experience memorable and fun.
• Next week, we will have our first two Wellness Days on Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday,
Feb. 19. Students will not have classes these days, but instead will have the opportunity
to participate in a variety of activities focused on physical, mental, emotional and social
well-being. We encourage you to explore the Wellness Days activities and use the time
to relax, unwind and refocus.
• Free, on-demand COVID-19 testing is available in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union
for students, faculty and staff, and we encourage you to take advantage of this fast,
convenient testing. We will also continue our randomized surveillance testing program to
help us assess the positivity rate on campus. We are especially appreciative of the
students who have been tested through this program.
• Throughout the global pandemic, new information and research becomes available
daily. There is reason for hope as cases decline, more vaccines arrive and more people
get vaccinated. Because of your individual actions, widely available testing, and
quarantine and isolation compliance, we are at a good place with being able to slow the
spread of COVID-19 in our community. Thank you for your flexibility, compassion and
commitment as we work together to keep our campuses safe and healthy.

community by donating to the brown bag food project of Northwest Ohio at the select drop off

• The Wood County Department of Job and Family Services:
o They can assist with rent and utilities. Households may only receive assistance once in a
twelve month period depending on need provided. (Assistance received through their
special COVID-19 program in April-June 2020 does not prevent assistance with this

o Learn more about becoming a foster parent. Children’s services is experiencing a

• Free healthy groceries BGSU Ending Hunger and the Center of Public Impact are bringing the
food for thought mobile pantry to BGSU campus. February 23, and March 23rd 2p-4p 1526 E
Wooster St. BG at the First united Methodist Church parking lot. Open to any student, staff,
faculty, or community member with no requirements. For more information call 419-372-9865
• Perrysburg: City offices will be closed Monday, February 15 in observance of Presidents’ Day.
There will be NO DELAY for refuse and recycling.
• Wood County Hospital: This week the Wood County Hospital changed their visitation policies.
The policy now reverts to what it was before the fall spike in COVID-19 cases . All visitors must
enter at the Outpatient/Emergency Department entrance. Visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. All
those entering the hospital will sign in and be asked the reason for the visit. Visitors will receive
temperature and COVID screening. Visitors must be 18 or older, and are limited to one person
per day. Visitation to patients with COVID-19 is limited to end of life situations. Obstetrics will
continue to limit visitation to “one designated birth partner. ”Patients coming in for surgical
procedures will enter at the Surgery Discharge entrance. If the patient becomes an inpatient, the
visitor may accompany the patient to their room. For more details, visit

• NWWSD: Through Friday at noon, the Northwestern Water and Sewer District has issued a boil
advisory for the village and residents on CR N, from CR 7 to Ohio 65, and all district customers
on Route 65 in Henry County. This boil advisory is necessary due to a waterline break caused
by cold weather. The leak occurred on CR P at Route 65 at approximately midnight
Wednesday. Repairs are complete. While water service has been restored, a boil advisory has
been issued for these customers as a precaution. The boil advisory impacts approximately 400
customers in eastern Henry County. Water service to the WaterShed in McClure, 2926 Route 6,
is now restored. The district is offering free water for residents impacted by the boil advisory at
the McClure and 19963 Otsego Pike WaterShed locations through the weekend. Those under a
boil advisory should not consume water without boiling it first. Use boiled or bottled water for
drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and food preparation. Bring water to a vigorous, rolling boil
and then boil for two minutes and cool the water before consuming it. Instead of boiling,
purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.
• On Feb. 22, the Ohio Department of Transportation will begin a three-month bridge closure of
Fallen Timbers Lane over U.S. 24 for a bridge rehabilitation project. The project had been
scheduled to start Monday. The rehabilitation includes bridge deck replacement, substructure
rehabilitation, raising the vertical profile over Route 24, and all associated approach work. While
the Fallen Timbers Lane bridge over Route 24 will be closed for bridge replacement, the ramps
⚫ Page 5will remain open. Detours are southbound Fallen Timbers Lane: Westbound Route 24 to Ohio
64 to eastbound Route 24 and northbound Fallen Timbers Lane: Eastbound Route 24 to
northbound Interstate 475/U.S. 23 to westbound Route 24.
