Year R Weekly Plan

Monday 11th January 2021
It is very important that our children continue to read, write and enjoy mathematics
every day. Some of these activities can be done independently or together.

 PE
         PE with Joe
         Go to The Body Coach TV:

         Can you join in with the moves?

 Phonics
 Resources you will need: ‘c’ handwriting sheet and felt tip pen
     Play Monday: Phonics Video
     We are learning Phase 3 sounds. We are learning the new digraph ‘sh’.
     DON’T FORGET to upload a photo of your work to Tapestry.

 Writing
 Resources you will need: pen/pencil and paper, letter mat, dinner plate
     Watch Monday: Story Video The Gruffalo
     Watch Monday: Writing Video
     Activity: Draw around a dinner plate on paper. Draw some lunch for the
       Gruffalo. Can you label the foods in your picture? Use your sounds to help you.
     When writing work at your child’s level. At this stage of the year, some
       children are mark making (their own writing), some can hear and attempt to
       write initial and/or dominant sounds, some children can write simple
       sentences. Help your child to hear the sounds needed for the words. Let
       them work with more independence if they are ready.
     DON’T FORGET to upload a photo of your work to Tapestry.

 Reading
     Read your school book.
     Practise all of your teddy words so you can read them on sight. If your child
       knows all their Teddy Words on sight and can remember their previous Teddy
       Words as well, please find the next Teddy on the school website by following

 Maths

     Watch Numberblocks Series 2: Seven

     Watch Monday: Maths Video
     Activity: Model showing 7 on fingers, count forwards, count backwards, find 7
       objects, write the number 7 with our number formation rhyme ‘Across the sky
       and down from heaven, this is the way you make a 7’.

 Child Initiated Play
      Spend 20 mins, a few times throughout the day solely playing with your child.
      Let them choose what to play. It could be role play, board games, Lego, etc.

 Expressive Art and Design/Physical Development
 Resources you will need: See below
     Build a den to play in – outside or inside. What will you need to build with? How
       will you attach or join things together?
     DON’T FORGET to upload a photo of your work to Tapestry.

Tuesday 12th January 2021

    Activity: Draw your own Gruffalo or other monster. Can you write some
       simple sentences about it? E.g. it has red spots. It is big. It can run.
       Use your sounds to help you.

    Read your school book.
    Practise all of your teddy words so you can read them on sight. If your child

Maths
Resources you will need: Tens Frame from learning pack (please keep this for future
weeks), objects to count in two colours - 7 of each colour, pen/pencil and paper/book
    Watch Tuesday: Maths Video
    Activity: Can you find different ways of making 7? (e.g. 1 blue Lego and 6 red
      Lego, or 3 blue Lego and 4 red Lego)
    Can you show each way on your tens frame?
    Can you record your ideas in your book, using pictures and numbers?
    Extension: Can you work systematically to find all the possible ways to make
      7? How do you know you have found every way? Explain to your grown-up.
    DON’T FORGET to upload a photo of your work to Tapestry.

Child Initiated Play

     Re-watch the Monday: Story Video if you would like.
     Draw a map of the mouse’s journey in the Gruffalo story. Can you label
          some of the places, or the animals he met?

     Numberblock 8 is made of many colours. A rainbow also has many colours. Can
       you draw, paint or make a rainbow? How many colours does a rainbow have?

Literacy
Resources you will need: Your own toys
     Watch Thursday: Literacy Video
     Activity: Create your own version of The Gruffalo story. Think about the
       different animals the mouse could meet, and the places he could visit. You
       could use your soft toys to be the animals, or build the places he goes to out
       of boxes or construction blocks/Lego. Can you retell your story to your
       grown-up?

   Watch Thursday: Maths Video
   Activity: Look at the images on the board. Stand up if you think they show 8.
      Sit down if you think it does not show 8.
   Look at the pictures on the board. Only things that have ‘8’ can go in the
      circle. Can you help to sort the pictures?
   Go on an ‘8 hunt’ around your house. Can you find a few objects that have 8 to
      go in your set? Can you find a few objects that are not 8?

Child Initiated Play
     Spend 20 mins, a few times throughout the day solely playing with your child.
     Let them choose what to play. It could be role play, board games, Lego, etc.

Physical Development
     Can you create some exercises for the Gruffalo to do? How many of each
        move will he need to help him keep fit?
